Just wondering how long most of ya wait between pulls when you take your car out for a spirited drive? I was only thinking about this the other day when I did about 8 back to back pulls with only maybe 10 seconds between them and since car has been retuned it feels like it flies. I thought that our cars would be able to handle this no problem but was doing some research and some people were saying to wait longer as doing back to back pulls lead to higher intake temps and heat soak and eventually detonation? I assume the vehicle would pull timing if it started to detonate from heat soak etc? So yeah, if you do decide to go for a spirited drive, how long between pulls should you wait? Or is doing the consecutive pulls fine as long as it is not all the time haha. I only do that once a week or so.

What is a resonable cost to do the following repairs
Bugeye01WRX replied to Bugeye01WRX's topic in General Vehicle Discussion
I only go to the deaership here because they serviced the car before I got it and have good records of everything so far. Also havn't found a new mechanic to go to as of yet but I understand dealers are expensive usually. Good to know that that cost doesn't sound too bad. In terms of the Shocks, i know there is a difference between struts and shocks but was hoping you or someone else could help me with understanding these. WHat exactly do Bugeyes have? They have Struts right? Not separate Shocks Is this a repair you can do yourself if you have the tools and a little knowledge or best left for mechanics? And if I decided to at least source the parts myself, any recommendations on what to replace with. Thanks Loren! -
Hey guys Just failed wof on the following: Front suspesnsion Top hats Split Vehicle has no rear bump stops Rear shocks need replacing Steering rack bushes need replacing. What is a reasonable cost including parts and labour to do this? I was quoted between $1,200 - $1,500 for this work at a subaru dealership.

Is this a red flag?? STI Purchase
Bugeye01WRX replied to Bugeye01WRX's topic in General Vehicle Discussion
198,000km Ok so this doesn't necessarily mean the car has been thrashed to buggery or that the rest of the gearbox is bad? -
Hey guys Looking at buying nice Bugeye STI exactly what I am after. However been in contact with the seller and he says it is getting a worn synchro repaired. Is that a red flag? I know that the STI gearboxes are stupid strong and can easily handle 600hp so to hear them having issues makes me think it has had the living daylights thrashed out of it and that the entire gearbox might go boom. I'd hate to buy an STI only for it to have an expensive gearbox replacement. So should I avoid this vehicle? Any checks I could get done professionally without having them rip apart the box or if I decide to buy it just have to have faith in the gearbox?

1st gear on a hill? Is it possible to lug or nah?
Bugeye01WRX replied to Bugeye01WRX's topic in General Vehicle Discussion
Ah ok so it is better to ride the clutch briefly in these situations? Ok cool so I don't need to worry about the lugging in this situation as it was for such a short time and in such a low gear aye? -
Hey guys I have just been practicing not riding the clutch as much as possible and I have got a pretty good hang of the bite point now so i don't ride it too much these days in many situations. I was reversing out of a gravel driveway that was on an incline of about 30 degrees so quite steep but was not very long. I didn't want to ride the clutch so I had clutch fully engaged and was just letting the momentum carry the car up. I didn't want to accelerate much either as it was not very far up the hill and onto a main road, so I ended up letting the torque at 500 - 900rpms "take me up." I am just wondering if it is possible to lug the engine in this case? I know in first you basically cannot lug the engine but what about going up a hill and not applying any throttle? I was in reverse and basically had both feet off pedals but car felt like it was struggling for a few seconds before I got onto even ground. I assume the car would stall in this case before any actual lugging would occur or am I wrong? Just a bit worried as I regret not slipping the clutch in this case to get up and am a bit annoyed at myself and worried i caused engine damage as I know lugging is really bad for the car.

Hey all Was just wondering if I needed a tune for the following: I recently had a dyno tune done on my WRX on stock Downpipe. Got some nice gains and came out around 302bhp. Been wanting to buy a Blitz Exhaust but they are over $1,000 and in looking a few of my friends recommended the following exhaust https://ppdperformance.nz/products/subaru-wrx-sti-turbo-back-exhaust-with-catalytic-converter Good price for a very nice sounding exhaust and even comes with Downpipe. However, I don't want to put the Downpipe on if it would cause problems. It says it is a high flow cat so I assume around 100 - 200 cells compared to the 400 or so on stock DP. Is there any reason to put the Downpipe on? Or if I have had a nice tune am I better to just put the catback on? Thanks!

I'd lose my A/C tho ?

Hey guys was hoping to get some feedback on where others have placed their gauges? I currently have 2x Prosport JDM gauges mounted in the A Pillar. I have a new Defi Boost gauge getting installed next week. Currently, the Pillar Pod is only held in by double sided tape as I am waiting to get this final gauge put in before I drill through the pillar and connect it and feed it all properly as once I do that, it is basically locked in. I always wanted my gauges on the A Pillar as I thought it looked amazing and I love the look. The only issue is driving at night. If there are no street lights the gauges are very dazzling as they are extremely bright. They are set to illuminate with ignition and they dim slightly when lights are turned on but it is like 15 - 20% dimmer and I'd like it to be like 50% dimmer. The other issue is my driver side has 35% tints and sometimes at night I struggle to see out the side with the light from gauges creating a sort of blind spot. I am considering moving them into the clock dash position but I first wanted to ask if that was worth doing. Will it be just a bright there? Maybe even worse since I am wondering if it will create a small blindspot at night looking straight ahead and I wouldn't want that! Or is the dash location definitely better? I was also thinking of making some custom tint covers that I could easily clip on and take off so if I ever do drive at night I can just clip them on. I don't do that much night driving and even less without street lights but when I do, I do notice it. Kinda wish I bought the Prosport gauges that have 6 different tint levels but too late now :).

Hello all! Just wondering what could potentially cause this. My check engine light has flashed (by flashed I mean appeared and disappeared a split second later) a few times in the 2 years I have had car but never had any issues and had them checked/diagnostic and never shows up anything. Today however I turned car on and was letting it idle for 1 min as I always do before taking off and noticed Check Engine Light and it was staying on. I turned car off and back on just to double check and it was gone and when driving it did not come back on. If it is not coming up again now, just an error most likely? The only reason I could think of was today I drove over a speed bump a bit fast and the front end of the car (basically the undercarriage under the hood) scraped so unless there is something under there that could have got damaged related to engine or sensors, just an error most likely?

Nah I am not worried I am relaxing more now and am actually just enjoying the car :). Was just curious what it could be and if it is something I should just leave chur

So today I noticed a whining noise in 5th gear. It sounded like a high pitched noise but it ONLY occurs at 94 - 96km/h in 5th gear with light throttle. If I am off throttle or building any boost I don't hear it and I don't hear it in any other gear at all, and I don't hear it in 5th if I am below 95km/h or above 100km/h which is really weird. What could possible be making this noise? Diff? Bearings? Is this something worth getting checked or should I just leave it for now as it only seems to happen at 95km/h in 5th. I should note that trans shifts with 0 issues at all and smoothly.

Sweet I will definitely look into it :). Yeah I definitely have been thinking about over capitalisation of the WRX. So far I have bought it for 8k and spent about 3.5k on it. SO far it is just a tune, STI SPoiler, STI Scoop and 3 gauges. If I did buy a blitz (would cost me $1,000), i would just take it off once I got an STI anyway so it is not like I'd buy it and leave it on the WRX if I sold the WRX or bought an STI and kept the WRX, I'd take the blitz off. I am not planning on taking the WRX any further, I am super happy where it is I was just looking into an exhaust as my last mod just for a better sound but I am not worried if I don't get a new exhaust.
-
Haha you got me good bro! Ahh I suppose it was fun for a bit but then it got old quick? Yeah I am just wanting a bit more sound because honestly my car is so quiet. I suppose it is good for subltey tho. Do you know any other catback options that might sound a bit more aggressive but that you wouldn't consider "cover your eyes in shame" material haha.
-
Oh ok looks like I'll have to do some research into that. I assume I am not going to get much change to backpressure as I am keeping stock DP with cat so will have most of the backpressure there so it shouldn't be too much less backpressure for a blitz anyway. but thanks for letting me know. And yeah obnoxiousness is subjective wish I could hear a blitz in person to know how loud it is.
-
Wait so what was all that bable about exhaust valves? Never heard of anything like that which is why I thought you were just having a joke hehe. Also yeah that was why I was asking I didn't want to get the blitz if it is obnoxiously loud and was wondering what other nice options there are. in terms of "I don't mind it being loud for others" I mean I am not worried if other people find it loud because 99% of them will only hear it for a second. I just wanna make sure it is nice sounding in the cabin since I am living with it ALL the time.
-
I am looking at a nice Catback Exhaust. Currently it has stock DP, stock midpipe with resonator and an sti genome rear muffler. While the car sounds nice, you cannot really hear it. Whenever I turn it on at idle, you barley hear it. When you open it up it does roar a bit but it does not sound that loud even with windows down. My favourite exhaust so far is the Blitz Nur Spec R. Absolutely love the design, sounds amazing and it bolts right up to my stock DP. However, I am really worried about just how loud it is. I don't want to spend $1,000 only to find out it is too loud or not my taste. The videos I have watched don't really represent how loud it is in person and I don't want to damage my hearing or deal with awful drone. I only really do city driving with a small bit of highway driving for 15 minutes each way 3 times a week, so most of time I am just cruising around town at 50km/h. Has anyone here used a Blitz and can comment on it? I don't mind it being loud for others but I don't want it to be extremely loud in the cabin that it damages hearing. I have heard they reach 105 - 110 decibels which is EXTREMELY damaging but I assume that is right by the exhaust so in the cabin would be different, and I assume that is also when really revving the vehicle. If the blitz is too loud, what would be some nice alternatives? I really want that beautiful deep rumble as I feel like my car is just so quiet. Thanks guys!

1st too fast, 2nd too slow? Lugging?
Bugeye01WRX replied to Bugeye01WRX's topic in General Vehicle Discussion
For the bugeyes and a lot of the old 5 speeds you do. Unless I am literally stopped or rolling at maybe 2-4km/h the gear will crunch and not go in very nicely at all. Even rev matching does not help. it is quite a common thing with early 2000 WRXs. -

Bugeye01WRX replied to Bugeye01WRX's topic in General Vehicle Discussion
Sorry yeah I am that guy. I really don't mean it to not be taken seriously I have anxiety with certain things and I guess my car just triggers it when I do silly things that I just think would cost me stress/money. Sorry for you guys having to look at my stupid posts haha. I have been trying to learn more and more about cars so I can hopefully turn a wrench myself one day, which would really help with these worries haha. Thanks for responding tho -

Bugeye01WRX replied to Bugeye01WRX's topic in General Vehicle Discussion
Haha no way I am giving up my maunal I hate autos :P. Ok yeah I'll slip clutch if I need to. So I should not worry about any damage? Just don't like throught of doing things that are bad to an engine with over 200,000km ya know, especially since it has just been tuned :). -

Haha I am more curious what you should do in these situations as well? Like do you guys just toll in second and slip clutch or do you just stop and screw the people behind? Haha
