  1. Have been very careful to only touch the plastic base of the bulb. NB if you accidentally touch the glass you can clean with isopropyl alcohol I believe.
  2. I know you're probably all sick of this thread now. But the ceramic insulators move up and down on the wire (both bulbs). Is that a bad sign?
  3. Speaking of stupidly high prices, Repco want $670/each for Philips D2S bulbs. Ex Australia...
  4. Sorry if I came across as arrogant, was just wondering which points I should pay attention to. Thanks for your help anyhow
  5. That guide seems oriented around the Ultinons (6000k version) - I bought the standard 85122 (4300k). Still, will have a better look. Which criteria (from the guide) lead you to believe they're fake?
  6. Photos: Guy is happy for me return them: Do you reckon I should (return them)? Better photos here : http://imgur.com/a/I1Qss
  7. So call the guy, he says he buys them in trays from Philips in Germany through an agent, then puts them in boxes. Sounds legit??
  8. Yeah - forgot seeing the part about being a division of Mt Auto Electrical. Obviously I don't live in the Mt so couldn't verify. So thanks for that. It certainly sounds too good to be true when you compare it to the $250/each bulb Armstrong/Wingers want! I just want the car back on the road so $100/each doesn't sound too bad. I wanted to avoid getting fakes and have them blow/fail WOF (since I'm getting them installed professionally, the labour cost will soon outweigh any "savings" on the bulbs if I have to do it again in 6 months)
  9. Bugger - looks like money down the drain then. I guess will try and remember "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is" for next time.
  10. Doesn't look that suspect to me? Looks like the kind of budget web design done by a mate for a box of beers you might expect for an automotive trade website.
  11. Hmm, will try first thing tomorrow. This is the website of the company: http://www.autoworkshopsupplies.co.nz/listProducts.php?categoryId=59
  12. Wonder if I can call my credit card company and request they reverse charges.
  13. Yeah, same as those (same seller)
  14. I *don't* think they're the same as the ones on that factoryxenon.com website. The funny thing is this seller appears to be a legitimate business i.e. they've got a phone number, proper looking invoice etc.
  15. Haven't taken the bulbs out of those little boxes yet - in case I need to return them.
  16. Bought these lights new off TradeMe, advertised as XENON HID D2S BULBS x 2 - 'GENUINE PHILIPS' They were $200 for the pair. Anyway, the packaging doesn't indicate Philips anywhere. Should I be concerned?
  17. My car (MY04 BL5 Legacy) needs new HID bulbs (D2s). I'm pretty happy with the current light colour (see photo: http://postimg.org/image/jcgruisdx/ ) - not sure if they're just aged 4300k bulbs or if they are 6000k ones, so after something as close as possible to these. Any recommendations? I don't want to have to replace them again soon, so plan to stick with name brands (either Philips or Osram). Trying to decide between Philips Xenon Vision, X-Treme Vision or Blue Vision Ultra...
  18. Hey, The passenger-side light on my MY04 BL5 Legacy has gone kinda pink. I'm assuming that means it needs replacing soon. Any recommendations on replacement bulb? (I think the fitting is DC2, not sure). Is there a reason to go for the Philips/Osram bulbs instead of the cheapie bulbs on TradeMe? Is it going to be difficult to fit myself? Cheers, Eddie
  19. My rim apparently has a WOF-failing flat spot (guess I must have hit a kerb at some point). Where's a good place to take it in Wellington? Rough price I should expect to pay?
  20. I don\'t believe they installed any PAK files, no - or at least the invoice from them doesn\'t indicate that they did. The technician said (this time around) that the sensor has a high internal resistance so it\'s buggered - can\'t be cleaned or anything. I\'ve got the part on order with them, will ask them about PAK codes when the new one arrives. Thanks for the help guys, and sorry for misleading everyone!
  21. No engine work in the 3.5 years I\'ve owned it. I could be imagining things, but I think it first started happening after filling up with BP Ultimate near Te Papa in Wellington. I normally just put 95 in.
  22. Pretty sure it was just one sensor they replaced last time. Some of that $626 was labour. I might have recently bottomed out my exhaust, I wonder if I could have damaged it somehow in the process? That would be a likely explanation.
  23. Car is stock-standard (air filter replaced at 100k service, car now has ~120k on it) Where do I get MAF cleaner from? If I go into Repco, will they know what I want? (Or do I need the Subaru upper engine stuff)? Any idea what a second-hand one will go for (roughly)? Just trying to get an idea of whether it\'s worth the gamble. Cheers for the reply!
  24. Hey guys, I had the air flow sensor air fuel ratio sensor replaced (CEL diagnosed by Armstrong) on my MY04 GT-B Leggy towards the end of 2010 - at a cost of $626 incl GST. This fixed the CEL then but it\'s started happening again. I\'ve had it diagnosed by Armstrong again and lo and behold, it\'s the same thing again. The car is only done 35,000 kilometers in that time and has always been run on either 95 or 98. How long should this part last? Is it possible/likely that they haven\'t found the root cause which is making this part fail? Anything else I should look out for? Or do I just have to stump up $600 every 3 years ??? NB the part is "SENSOR A/F RATIO 20Y - 20X" Cheers, Eddie
