Just gonna throw it out there but have you been handling them with bare hands?

If you've touched the glass you'll have to clean them properly, not even sure what with.

Have been very careful to only touch the plastic base of the bulb. NB if you accidentally touch the glass you can clean with isopropyl alcohol I believe.

Pretty hard to be judging whether they are fake or not off a different model that may be different even for real ones.

If you do return them don't go back to wingers. Find a reputable local parts supplier and get them from there. Subaru prices for some items are just stupidly high compared to the opposition.

Speaking of stupidly high prices, Repco want $670/each for Philips D2S bulbs. Ex Australia...

Several things, just read it. Anyway make your own mind up... I think they 100% fake... but I'm not going to waste time trying to convince you. Not my money.

Sorry if I came across as arrogant, was just wondering which points I should pay attention to. Thanks for your help anyhow :)

Guy is happy for me return them:

    Hi Eddie,

Sorry you are unhappy with your purchase, here are the details if you wish to return the products. We offer a twelve month warranty against manufacture faults and to date have had no returns.

Do you reckon I should (return them)?

Don't read into that too much, seems to be a online sales part of a legitimate business. Read the small print below the main title. Division of mount auto electrical, and they've been in the mount as long as I can remember.

    Thats their address

For that price is it really too good to be true though?..

Should be able to get a set of real ones from amazon for about half that price, did it a few years ago for the old car.

Yeah - forgot seeing the part about being a division of Mt Auto Electrical. Obviously I don't live in the Mt so couldn't verify. So thanks for that.

It certainly sounds too good to be true when you compare it to the $250/each bulb Armstrong/Wingers want! I just want the car back on the road so $100/each doesn't sound too bad. I wanted to avoid getting fakes and have them blow/fail WOF (since I'm getting them installed professionally, the labour cost will soon outweigh any "savings" on the bulbs if I have to do it again in 6 months)

It looks like there are heaps of fakes online, just google image search "Philips HID"

The box is almost a dead giveaway I think, you'd at least assume they would come in either of these boxes

But hey that's just my opinion, hope you haven't been ripped off!

edit; http://factoryxenon.com/shop/2x-philips-d2s-35w-85122-xenon-headlight-hid-bulbs-head-light-bulb-lamp-new-oem-5/ - are they these?

I *don't* think they're the same as the ones on that factoryxenon.com website.

The funny thing is this seller appears to be a legitimate business i.e. they've got a phone number, proper looking invoice etc.

  7. Bought these lights new off TradeMe, advertised as XENON HID D2S BULBS x 2 - 'GENUINE PHILIPS'

They were $200 for the pair.

Anyway, the packaging doesn't indicate Philips anywhere. Should I be concerned?

  8. My car (MY04 BL5 Legacy) needs new HID bulbs (D2s).

I'm pretty happy with the current light colour (see photo: http://postimg.org/image/jcgruisdx/ ) - not sure if they're just aged 4300k bulbs or if they are 6000k ones, so after something as close as possible to these.

Any recommendations? I don't want to have to replace them again soon, so plan to stick with name brands (either Philips or Osram).

Trying to decide between Philips Xenon Vision, X-Treme Vision or Blue Vision Ultra...

  9. Hey,

The passenger-side light on my MY04 BL5 Legacy has gone kinda pink. I'm assuming that means it needs replacing soon.

Any recommendations on replacement bulb? (I think the fitting is DC2, not sure). Is there a reason to go for the Philips/Osram bulbs instead of the cheapie bulbs on TradeMe?

Is it going to be difficult to fit myself?

    Cheers,

    Eddie

when you went to armstrongs, did they install the pak file(ecu reflash) for the a/f ratio sensor? subaru japan had released few ecu upgrade for these models where a/f ratio sensor gets buggered up too quickly.

go back to them and ask them if the pak file is available for your car. get that installed first before you change the sensor.

I don\'t believe they installed any PAK files, no - or at least the invoice from them doesn\'t indicate that they did. The technician said (this time around) that the sensor has a high internal resistance so it\'s buggered - can\'t be cleaned or anything. I\'ve got the part on order with them, will ask them about PAK codes when the new one arrives.

Thanks for the help guys, and sorry for misleading everyone!

Has the engine had any rebuild or service work done in recent history

I have heard of silicone sealants somehow contaminating 02 sensors to death, just from minute amounts of fumes being sniffed

Option b could be bad fuel, havent run a tank of waimak bp "special" fuel through it have ya? haha

    Ahh memories

Just random ideas, its a weird part to die on its own. Theyre pretty "dumb" and generally do their simple job for 100-160ks before needing replacement

No engine work in the 3.5 years I\'ve owned it. I could be imagining things, but I think it first started happening after filling up with BP Ultimate near Te Papa in Wellington. I normally just put 95 in.

2 A/F Ratio Sensors would explain the $626 bill from Armstrong, maybe they\'ve replaced both in 2010.

It\'s the sensor bolted into your exhaust down pipe, just in front of the Cat. If you have 2 the second will be just after the Cat I think.

Edit: They should also be earthed near the sensor somewhere, might pay to check/clean the earths while under there?

Pretty sure it was just one sensor they replaced last time. Some of that $626 was labour. I might have recently bottomed out my exhaust, I wonder if I could have damaged it somehow in the process? That would be a likely explanation.

  13. Hey guys,

I had the air flow sensor air fuel ratio sensor replaced (CEL diagnosed by Armstrong) on my MY04 GT-B Leggy towards the end of 2010 - at a cost of $626 incl GST. This fixed the CEL then but it\'s started happening again. I\'ve had it diagnosed by Armstrong again and lo and behold, it\'s the same thing again.

The car is only done 35,000 kilometers in that time and has always been run on either 95 or 98.

How long should this part last? Is it possible/likely that they haven\'t found the root cause which is making this part fail? Anything else I should look out for? Or do I just have to stump up $600 every 3 years ???

NB the part is "SENSOR A/F RATIO 20Y - 20X"

    Cheers,

    Eddie
