r u meaning the one that lights up the foot face window etc control? mine hardly ever lights up, gud old whack to the dash jus above it usually gets it working for a few minutes, my mates ones do it aswell

Yeah exactly that, whacking it only works sometimes so wondering if there is a solution. Cheers

  2. My 96 WRX's interior light for the AC control seems to have a mind of its own. It come on and off when it feels like. I have taken the unit out and checked if the bulbs were secure but they seem fine. I wonder if anyone else has experience the same thing and how they solved it? Thanks

Thanks again for the comments... Guess the majority must be right :-\

I'm not letting it go for anything less than 10k unless I restore it back to factory spec, so looks like I'll be getting that new Version 7 STI short block and keeping it after all...

Unfortunately there are less people who are looking to buy cars at the moment and there is a lot of ppl who don't appriciate the finer details of your car to pay 11k for it.

You will probably get more if you return the car back to stock and sell the parts separately. Im sure that will get you more than 11k.

It is sad that the money and energy ppl spent on cars will never be recovered when you sell it, i suppose this is why modding cars is a hobby!

Good luck buddy, however i would keep this car personally. It's mint.

Yea that was along the lines of what he was saying he didnt care how loud it was,if its not factory then hard luck mate remove or cert

You have a few options here

    - Jam steel wool up your exhaust

    - Find a dodgy garage to give you a WOF

    - Have your exhaust tested properly (if you are certain yours if under the legal limit)

    - Replace your exhaust with factory

I did option 2. Costed me 25 bucks. The pain is that they might not give you a WOF in 6 months time.

  5. WRX are good cars providing that the maintenance is done regularly. Mine has done more than 200k and still drives like 100k (althought on second engine, the first one was a dud from Japan).

When you go view and test drive the car. Make sure you start them from cold and take it for a drive. Give it a decent boost and get your mate to check out the exhaust gas colour.

You probably should stay away from ones that has got dodgy boost mod and go for original none mod ones.

    Good luck

  6. So i suppose if i want to keep my sports exhaust i have to spend the money. I suppose it's gonna cost money to go back to standard exhaust. BTW i have downloand a DB testing application from my iphone and will try that out to see if it works.

  7. Well I went for my WOF at my usual guy who passed me 6 month ago and he said to me as soon as I rolled up that cos my exhaust is modified he wont pass me based on that. I thought it's a load of crap really. Visited a couple of exhaust shops and one of the guy tested me with a handheld db meter and it reads 92-94 db and he suggested me to get an objective testing done. If mine passes the test does it means that I wont have any more issue like this providing I keep my exhaust the same and condition? This whole exhaust noise thing seems to me to be applied inconstantly and only pin the good guys. It's gonna cost me 225 to have my exhaust noise objectively tested and possibly more to modify it further on a system that was installed more than 3 years now and had no problems with the cops neighbors etc. Pissed! I've got a 96 wrx with a 2.5 inch Siamese pipe to a 3 once with one resonator and a muffler.

  8. This is an old topic i suppose...

My 96 WRX has a 2.5 siamese downpipe that goes into a 3 inch with 2 x resonators before a 4 inch tip.

I've had the same setup for more than 2 years now and never had an issue, ie being pulled over or failing a warrent. However on my latest trip to the garage down the road for a WOF, they have failed me due to excessive exhaust noise. Now, these are the guys that passed me 6 months earlier and now all of a sudden it's too loud!! I suspect that they didn't even test the exhaust noise at all!! My exhaust is loud but it's nothing compare to a lot of the other WRX out there.

I have read about the LTSA legislation and the only option that is availiable to me seems to be getting it tested by a third party and so on, but that'll cost more money, in the meantime i managed to get some garage to give me a WOF but it's out of the way for me and a pain.

Does anyone has the similar experience? or can you recommend a friendly garage that is more trustworthy, cos if they can prove to me that it's more than the 95 db i would consider quiten it down a bit. Basically i just have no trust or time dealing with mechnics that pass/fail people based on his/her mood on the day.

    Thanks guys

  9. I've come accross a 2nd hand uppipe on Trademe

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=238193398

I wonder if this is a good mod to have. From the description it's slightly larger than the standard one and i have read from a book that unlike down pipes, larger uppipe does not increase performance and possibly make the turbo spool up slower when a larger diameter uppipe bolt onto standard turbo. What do you guys think? I thought 80 bucks is pretty reasonable price.

  10. Just got a couple of quotes (fro PS Automotive in Puke and Sub Tech in Auckland) for a 200k service for my WRX and the quote is around $1500 + GST.

    They will

    -Replace cambelt, tensioner etc

    -Replace water pump

-Service oil pump with new seals

-Replace all fluids, coolants, gearbox & diff oil

Do you think it's too expensive and is there anyone around the greater Auckland area that can do the same job for cheaper?

    Thanks

  11. V7 WRX will be anywhere between 13-15k for a STI you'll be looking to add another 4-5k, it will be money well spent though in my opinion as you can't make a standard WRX into a STI for 5k. There should be plenty of good bargain around at the moment.
