  1. Cool, thanks for the info. I think I have sourced an AWD box and entire manual conversion for a good price I think but time will tell and I will know for sure when it is in my possesion !! Hmm pricey diff, the rx one is an lsd one I assume? May just have to settle for a part time diff in the meantime or hopefully my manual conversion price includes one ...

Good to know about the bits and pieces thanks heaps, I may have to take you up on that offer yet, will know in a few days what all gaskets and seals etc will cost me and if I'm going to have to start digging for things ...

  2. Well, I went up from Dunedin to Christchurch on Sunday to pick up this:

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=490275194

Ad was around the wrong way as it should have read Turbo Leone car with free EA82T. The body is 97% rust free but the motor and running gear has seen many, many better years ............. got to Oamaru before oil leaks got the better of it and lost oil pressure. Check dipstick and it was dry, check at Ashburton was spot on so must have dropped about 3.5 litres of oil on SH1 in between! So parked on a side street and drove back to Dunedin and returned with salvage trailer and trusty Landcruiser this evening. Slow trip back to dunners and dropped off at work. Motor and gearbox out tomorrow night and get to work stripping down and assessing damage.

I know people are going to suggest EJxx transplant but to be honest I think I will stick with the EA to keep as stock as possible and this way if I build it all back up I know what has been done to it (which looks like head gaskets, cambelts, seals and maybe rings and bearings .... also there is less and less of these floating round let alone many in good condition.

The turbo made some nasty nasty noises before losing oil pressure so that's potentially scrap so was thinking maybe td04 or vf10 and an intercooler?? thoughts?? Have seen this done on an 4 rx turbo and like the idea. Also does anyone know that factory boost is for the EA82T??

Also scraping the dirty auto and fitting a manual box instead and was wondering about rear diff ratios. Does anyone know what ratios the auto run compared to the manual? Thinking the autos would have lower ratios as its a 3 speed compared to a 5 speed manual but anyones thoughts and expertise on the subject would be appreciated.

That is all for now, will post an update in the weekend with some progress photos hopefully and I will know then how deep this hole is I have dug myself.

  3. Try and borrow an air flow meter, put it on and take it for a drive. AFM code will only come up if ECU isn't getting readings outside certain parameters. Also there are history fault codes and current codes. If you look up the history codes it may have logged one at some stage and give you an idea of where to start.

turbos are good they only have 68,000 ks on them ! if I disconnected the exhaust by where the down pipes meet would it affect the way it goes? cause that way I could rule out the collapsed exhaust idea ?

Yes this could work, also get under and hit your catalytic converter with our hand and if it rattles it could have rotated around and blocked the exhaust like kamineko said.

  4. I have a 1996 BGC 250T auto and after replacing both outer CV joints I have a vibration in the front under load turning left only. I have driven a car that has knackered duty solenoids and am confident it is not that and I have put the fwd fuse in to check this also. I have swapped the half shafts left to right, replacing the half shafts with other units (both sides and one at a time) all to no avail. At first it felt like a hub nut was loose but all nuts and bolts were checked and we have checked again trying to eliminate the problem. Have checked diff fluid and trans fluid both are at level and clean .... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated or a new direction to go down. Thanks in advance ......

  5. Insurance has already paid out so its belongs to them. Thought about buying it back and parting it out but the brakes are wrecked (left rotor has been driven on when the wheel came off) and I don't really have the space to store it while i pull it to bits ..... Turners nest Wednesday I would say in the wrecked vehicle auctions. It still started first pop when I tried and the ignition hasn't been wrecked (the guy had a generic key apparently)

what did they grab just the trispoke wheels?

Nah mate, i had put the split spoke 17" GTB wheels on it ....

  6. Turned up ...... down the peninsula. On 4 space savers ..... the dicks had ground down the 4 pots to try and get the space savers on but still couldn't get it to work. Front left wheel has fallen off at some stage wrecked underneath on the left hand lower arm, stripped all wheel studs and the wheel then wrecked the guard and who knows what else is bent! So off to turners it goes .....

  7. 1990 GT Legacy Wagon, TG2185 is the plate 17" split spoke GTB alloys, 4 pots,2185 zonelli s12 rotors, tiny peashooter on the back so it is very quiet..... Is blue in colour. I will put up some pics but think I only have ones with 3 spoke wheels .... Would really like to get it back ......

I might just chuck mine on, could be interesting to see power difference between vf10 and the td05.

What's the difference between your and mine?

Turbo (mine being a stock VF10), your ECU is chipped, mine has a manual boost controller...anything else? Intake? I've got a stock intake but with a "high flow" air filter box (the bottom is chopped off to make a bigger intake hole).

I now have factory airbox and very silent exhaust now so you could say mine is standard ... expect bov, and sti panel filter ..

alot of places dont wana wate there time and money on someone that doesnt know anything.theyd rather employ someone that has knowlegde,or someone thats done a course so atleast they have a faint idea of what there doing,

this is bang on ... your pre apprentice course does do about 1 quarter of the credits of your apprenticeship so worth doing. and it looks a bit better for an employer if you have done it, shows your keen to learn and not a complete muppet.[quote

good as, best way to do it. just get out there and get some work experience and then hopefully you can get an apprenticeship by the end of the year. out of 14 that passed the course i did last year 5 have apprenticeships in and around dunedin. not great amounts of them out there but if your keen and able you will be sweet.
