STI's are overated.
yeah, but not as much as they are underated...you just have to know which TYPE to get ;D
As to the Legacy Vs WRX:
90 Legacy (GT Auto) was a nice, well apointed car that could move rather quickly when needed. While in stock trim it was no STI, it was miles ahead of my previous US and Aussie 6 and 8 cyl cars in both performance (very much including handling here) and creature comforts.
A wee bit more boost, decent exhaust, RS ECU with a/m chip and some new suspension made it come alive.
96 GT wagon was a boat; tons of room and smooth driving, but not as rewarding as a WRX.
Must say though, they do have a nice shape to them, especially when lowered.
A decent set of tyres, coilovers and some V4 STI seats completely changed the experience though; nice firm ride, with quick and sharp turning response. If only they came with one turbo...
V2 STI was a shock! After the 90 Legacy, i was almost drunk from the performance. So similar to the legacy but yet so much more capable in every department. If you have never driven one through a nice twisty back road, go out and do it now!
V3-4 WRX (wagon). Following on the STI (stolen ), it was a let down to be sure. Not as boat-ish as the TT but nothing as crisp as the STI, and the TD04 was rather limp, but id did have enough room to move flats in.
A set of Tein adjustables and a new VF22 and it was all but the equal of the STI. Didn't quite feel as nimble (but that could just be me thinking it's a station wagon).
V7 RA Spec C What can i say...Legacy's AND STI's only wished they were...
Despite the fact that the Spec C is top of my list, i would have to say i miss the TT Legacy wagon the most...

Should clear...
Lower the number, the further out the wheels sit.

Irridium plugs seem to work better than platinum too.
My 97 WRX was quite happy with 16-17psi(was fitted with a brand new VF22 though).
80,000km, down pipe, standard everything else except muffler.

Get some 45 or 42 offset rims to position the wheels slightly further out (also try to get 7.5 inch wide, then you can comfortably run 235/45R17's)

Has anyone had a reliable history of regular octane booster addition to their lower octane (95) fuel?
If so, what brand, what mix and what octane/brand of fuel?

I average 60L a week.
and i don't get to run 95 at 1.65 bar

I got aircon in my Spec C too, but it only gets used to demist the windscreen, the rally scoop is all the cooling I need Windup windows are great, another electrical thing that can't go wrong.
Seriously though, I think the V7s are much maligned and unfairly so. They're still a good car, and a great base car if you're going to start piling on the mods. After all, a V8 is basically a V7 with a facelift and twin scroll (but no boxer rumble). Yeah, there are other differences, but those are the only ones you're really going to notice, is it worth so many thousands more?

Yeah, my aircon is only ever set to demist too (works real fast). And the roof vent is all good in the heat.
As to differences between V7 and V8, there may be a bit more than that.
ECU program, turbo, headers are all different (not necessarily better either), yes the sheet metal is changed (front for the better, rear for the worse), but it's tamed down a wee bit and carrying a few more pounds too.
But, the steering and it's response are better than the V7 due to the V7 Spec C's suspension set up being carried over into the V8 STI's.
