  1. TBH, i agree, it is a fat pig, but then, SUBARU seam to be making nothing but fat pigs nowadays...

    Big fat ugly Impreza,,,

Big fat ugly Forester...and now this.

I 'shopped' the front guard bulge as they looked too much like stick on flares...

let's face it, much like all the current fare, it's a bit of a joke...

alot of personal opinions here but not many that actually have experience.

Yeah, right, cause none of us have ever heard of chinese parts ****ting themselves... ::)

Don't know where the $2000 turbo came from, i never mentioned one...

I am just pointing out that there are a lot of products coming from china that are total sh1t. They don't care about quality, proper materials or anything, just getting the money in their hand. They are ruthless bastards, i know, i've worked with them, screw thier own sister if theres a profit in it...

I know it, you know it, everyone knows it, so, do some research before buying a chinese product

Problem is that the light source isn't in the same position. The filament in a normal bulb is located differently to the gas arc in an HID, is a different size, and a different shape.

The ones i had were very similar to the original bulbs...

Hardly had anyone flash me, and wof guys didn't notice anything.

Yeah, but if you push it, it'll see 1.75bar...just shy of 26psi... :P

Not hard to adjust the EBC tho to get that much any time :D

Yeah, but if you wanna keep those $8000 pistons, i'd leave it where it is... ;)

  5. Yeah.

As to the tyres and turbo having anything to do with each other; it's a case of attitude.

Triangle tyres are Sh1t; don't bother telling me they are good to drift on, or your sisters husband's friend had some and they were good, it's crap, they are sh1t, end of story.

Still, people will go out and buy them because they can't afford a proper tyre., instead of waiting and saving until they can.

It's the 'I WANT IT NOW' attitude, which also applies to cheap turbos, guages, exhausts, suspension and anything else you can think of.

Yes, some cheap stuff is fine, it's non critical and works, but there are some things you should not skimp on.

Forget the price side of it for a moment, as price isn't always a good indication.

You can buy a part that is from a manufacturer (say subaru) and it'll cost x amount of $$, or you can buy a generic part which is produced in a factory controlled by a corperation who still have quality control, and test their products but use cheaper labor and sell it for a reduced price; or, you can buy a cheap chinese copy.

It may have been made from proper material, or maybe not; who would know as there is no quality control. If it does fail, don't even think about having any support, the importer has long ago dumped his stock and moved into cellphones or something and will not be returning your calls cause he dont care.

Don't confuse a product made in china, under licence, for a reputable brand with some cheap pig iron copy made in a factory god knows where, that shut down once they made enough to make a profit.

Got my V4 STI coupe (type R) for $7200, but its a little rough here and there. Came with some fruit though (exhaust, external, front mount, ECU). Seems to be a bit of a jump in price to V5's and up though. Sedans are definately cheaper and wagons cheaper again. STIs of course command more than WRXes.

What to look for... the usual things really.

-Rust (boot, chassis rails, sills, firewall, A/C pillars, around windscreens, etc)

-Leaks from rocker cover gaskets are common (crawl under the car and look at the ends of the engine next to chassis rails) - this can be expensive-ish to fix

-Any signs of overheating etc (if possible look at the car when its cold and check the header tank is full), they can crack the radiator endtanks sometimes, and blown headgaskets will usually end the motor

-Knocks from suspension indicating worn shocks (other than shocks subys seem pretty good for suspension reliability)

-Shuddering under braking (warped rotors, will cost a couple hundred at most)

-Check the DCCD works if it has it, turn it all the way down, do a U turn, it should be silent. Then turn it up to locked and do another U turn, it should clunk around a bit.

-Avoid anyone selling their car as a "singapore spec sti" ;D (sorry bit of a forum joke)

If it has a front mount, check if they've cut chassis to fit it.

There is also a good thread http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic,5731.15.html here, post number 3 will give you an idea on different facelifting of the GC8's.

    Good luck and have fun.

Also - when you view a car, jot down the VIN from the firewall, so you can check it matches the plate! Plus you can call your local friendly Subaru dealer and check what sort of spec it really is, as they can tell you if it's actually an STI or not.

FIRST thing you do when checking out a car is take a good long look at the owner!

If the cap is on an angle, walk away... :D

If he/she uses the words Boost, or Boosting as an adjective, walk away...

    Next, look at the car:

If it has any of the plates on an angle, you guessed it, walk away...

If it has more than 3 parts/brands stickers on it, then walk away...

...and, most importantly, if it is described as a special edition coming from Singapore, laugh in his/her face, and then walk away...

    ;D

  7. It's a good upgrade, but, unfortunately illegal (although i got plenty of wof's at Onroad with no one questioning them).

Only reason they are illegal, is that the headlight lenses, and reflectors are not designed for HID bulbs. Personally, if the light source is in the same position as with a normal bulb, i cant see what the problem is...

Wouldn't touch a chinese manufactured part that had any moving parts... :P

    /quote]

so you dont actually have any experience to share with us? lol.

you might not touch them, doesnt mean they arent useable. not all of us can afford expensive big name turbos.

    Ha, ha.

    Love this attitude.

If i can't have a 500kW moster with big name parts, i'll do it on the cheap with chinese crap parts... :D

If you can't afford to buy the right gear, you can't afford to do it, period!

And, yes, i'm aware many big name brands have their products made in China.

They do it because in China, you can hire someone who'll work their ass off for peanuts, so you can make a disgustingly large profit.

There are also many, many Chinese companies, ripping off the design of 'genuine products' and making very, very dodgy quality copies which they then sell to muppets who wanna build a high HP/kW modded car, but can't actually afford to.

Once you've got your cheap Chinese mosta turbo on and making 500kW, you gonna run high performance TRIANGLE tyres too?

    Your money, your choice...
