Whats this no sympathy for running a chip?

If a chipped ecu is known to be good, if it makes more power and is still safe to run, then where is the problem?

1/10th the cost makes a strong argument, and it will normally still keep the same safeguards as factory (rev cut / overboost protection etc) - just like a reflashed ecu does.

they arent *perfect* but for the majority they genunely are a good cheap upgrade, as with any auto part its a case of buying known good gear and buying the right thing for what you have

ive seen countless cars running generic chips, and 9/10 of them are just fine - they make a bit more power than someone just using the factory tune for a comparitavely small $ outlay, the car has been checked that its still running no knock and safe AFR\'s, everyone is happy. its that 1/10 which gets the bad name cause its been written by an idiot or is totally wrong for the car

just like a poorly done dyno tune really...

    +1

had them no probs generally overfuelled not perfect but good power gains, never had anything explode but have on factory tunes.

not saying they dont cause probs but generally not.

  2. what model/year is it? i have a couple of sets in my garage.

  3. i have just bought v2 wrx and it has a walbro fuel pump, ive had it out and seems mounted correctly however when car has just under 1/4 of a tank and you go around left hand corner it takes a gulp of air stalls for a sec then ok, its kind of annoying would like to fix it, we do alot of long distance travelling and sometimes were stretching tank fulls between garages, has anyone else had this issue? any help and advice would be appreciated

  4. is this the wagon with sti badged wagon in invercargill?

if it is you took out a screwed ej20r and put in an ej20h,lots of differences put injectors etc were off old motor,

id say crank sensor is 1 problem as there different.

  5. had this mod on 98 bh for 5 years no problems at all boosts 15-16 on primary and secondary with a noteable reduction in vod

the ecu still controls boost cut theres no probs with it as far as ive experienced, they dont run lean anyway have you traveled behind one and seen how much gas it spits out lol
