Hmm, if it is getting up to 100 then you may want to look at that, not terriable unless its only water in the cooling system lol! mine sits around 80-85 out on the track

Do you mean only water as in not also antifreeze? Definitely antifreeze in there. Hmmmm

can send the log file if there's something in there that I might be missing

    Ect, engine coolant temp.

Nice, I'll upload the log so we can have alook 1 sec

    Update

Whoops looks like I didn't save any of the logs I did LOL

Didn't realise you had to physically save them -_ - /learning

Oh well it was obvious when I was reading it that ECT went over 100* - Julius told me previously he put a safety mode for if it went over 100* and it definitely kicked into safety mode

My subie hit 110 oil temp peak on ruapuna, about the same time as the end of session and the brakes started to fade a little. Think 110 oil temp is sorta the upper limit that you want to be at, may we'll be worth looking into an external oil cooler

So is the temp gauge on the dash reading oil temp? Or is oil temp different?

100 degrees is not that hot. Move limit to 110. If pressure cap is doing its job you will be good to 125 ish. Rally car will run a constant 120 no problem. Air ducting and a radiator water spray will help alot

Whats 100 on the temp gauge? Is that half way? My temp gauge doesn't work at the mo (Ajay fixing it while it's back at his shop) I was just reading off the tablet link software

Have seen plates made up that prevent air from going around rad, things like the top "slam panel" etc, forcing the air into the rad.

Are you running an external oil cooler?

It may be worth investigating water sprayer setup for intercooler if front mounted to try and reduce heat transfer from there

Nah no external oil cooler, done abit of research online and it seems to be a key part of cooling for track cars

have also seen the panel onto of radiators, think my mate has one on his bc5 may need to convince him to sell it to me :P

  6. Hey all

Need abit of advice on how to keep temps down while thrashing the tits off at the track

My Rs is good for 3/4 Hard laps on high boost at Taupo before temps go above the 100 degree safety and it goes into cool down mode (changes rpm limit to 6000 and goes slower)

does  that for about 5minutes then goes to back to normal

Ive already got an upgraded radiator, think the aftermarket turbo is just getting too hot and the water pump can't keep up / radiator might not be radiating enough with the front mount in the way

    Cheers /:)

It's not how we identify the turbo, it's what the turbo identifies as. I think it might be a trans or bi turbo who identifies as a twin scroll. Or maybe even turbo-fluid. Not all turbo who identify as fluid have a turbo fluid resevoir, it's just how they feel at a particular part of the rev range.

    Don't judge.

Edit: some of my best friends are turbos.

    Gold :D

LOL true! what i want out of the car changes too often. i never been this impulsive with finances before, i swear :S anything else overthink and procrastinate it but with the car i'm absolutely mental which is partially why i wanted to get rid of it recently as anything i do with it only makes me happy for a couple weeks at most (or even on the drive home from shop) before i somehow need to do more.

a lot of these performance mods are a bit of a pipe dream (new turbo, headers, engine rebuild, e85). im gonna start prebooking some travel next year and i won't have money to waste on car anymore. the noise fix stuff (fuel pump, exhaust) is definitely happening and i will probably find (i hope) that after i take care of these super annoying things that my level of enjoyment with car becomes like what i had with my old car. desire to keep changing things will hopefully just go away as it's a lot easier to be happy with a car that doesn't give you a headache every time you drive. "if it's this noisy then it needs to atleast be fast enough to match this bloody noise" - i think thats whats going on inside my brain, but heck i'll see a psychiatrist if i have to if i keep having these impulses LOL. is there a car modding addict support group? . had decibel meter inside car other day, it hit 105db peak in cabin on cruise (not from my basic sound system!). F***ing lawnmower is around that same so i think im on to something now.

I havnt measured my Rs volume wise. But that seems really high? I've got an externally vented gate and I wouldn't consider my car loud at all, when cruising it's relatively quiet, boosting with the windows up and the gate doesn't even seem loud. Outside is a different story though :P

im looking forward to finally attending a meet (once I can drive again - I'll probably drive before I'm ment to Obviously) have met heaps of clubsub peeps already from various other situations, can't wait to show the Rs off lol, feels like I've been telling people about how awesome its gonna  be for like 6months now ^_ ^

The track makes cars feel so slow.

?????Dude the track is awesome!! Your appetite for speed must be ridiculous because you sound like a Formula 1 Driver whos been racing for 20years and is about to retire because it doesnt give him a rush anymore lol :P

I've also raced plenty of things - its what gives me that adrenaline rush alot of us crave, and a day at the track is just magical for me - the straights, the corners, everything ^_ ^

Eh, didn't do too badly for being myself, didn't go to set any real times, but more so to learn to drive it better, as I've never been very confident at sliding around corners etc, so just lots of practice, that being considered, for once I wasn't last in class, and came out 2nd last in class instead :P

No in car this time, just a drone video a friend made, that I'm in once very briefly.

Today I Finally took the rocker covers off of the new engine and found that Cylinder 3's Exhaust valves have too much gap between the buckets and the cam.

It's o.3mm on one and 0.4mm on the other, where it should be 0.2mm.

    Now to find out why....

Watched the vid but unsure of what car you drive these days?

P.s super keen to do this, any around ak happening?

My next track day is booked for the 21st ^_ ^

thats true i should add it's also the first time since i got the car that my savings account value has been going up and not down lol.

Wish I could say the same, Since my RS has been at ajays I've got back into motorcross, went and got myself a 2015 YZ250, Awesome bike to ride! suspension is crazy forgiving. Have ridden 4 times since I got it and already crashed it twice LOL, damaged a ligament in my knee (which seems to be fine now with alot of anti-inflammatry abuse)  :)
