Thats what i thought but why would it hold boost in 3rd,4th & 5th? ill have a good look over it at work or on the weekend & c how it goes. Thanks
Its more than likly not holding boost in high gears, just the turbo is working hard enuf to make it boost cut,,realy not good for your turbo making it work like this

Sounds like a boost leak, check all your intake pipes and intercooler

Was engine overheating??
-
You sure ???
Cause i put a 2002 rev d legacy motor into a 1998 b4 and it wouldnt start cause the cam and crank had differnt number of teeth, causing it to not start.
But in saying that changed them both at the same time so possibly would start only with crank..
Nah both were different toothed but if had 1 would of run lol
What sort of rpm are you towing this engine at trying to get vacuum?
-
Nah your legacy had fuel but no spark
-
Have you changed the top right cam sprockets or the crank gear??
Cause they have X amount of teeth on the back to trigger the cam and crank sensor. If you have a newer or older pulley on chances are tehy will have different teeth adn the ecu wont know whats going on.
Shouldnt be this if its getting spark and fuel thow brad

Who rebuilt engine, is it all assembled correctly? everything pluged in?, just woundering to how come your tow starting a new engine??

Hey guys
My car has started to have an engine wine, ive got a few idea of what it mite be but thort someone may have had it before,, its a V5 sti, if i give it a bit of stick and at full boost and high rpm ie 5000+ then butten off the engine has a loud wine to it, is engine not drivetrain, is directly related to engine rpm as in wine pitch changes with revs, i thort it may have been my turbo on the way out but seems too change with revs too much for that,, was woundering if it could be a cambelt idler or something, does cambelt come under more load with high boost as valve are harder to open? its not a knocking noise so dont realy think its a crank bearing unless someone has heard of one wining before,
The wine goes away again after abot 5mins of normal driving
If anyone has anyideas it would be a big help
Thanks

haha yeh agreed cummins and cats are mint compaired to this,, just having look into it more and either sub frame gets droped out or engine comes out,, what a stupid design lol
-
yeh thats gona be the next step before i go dropping the whole lower sub frame out,, im a truck mechanic not realy knowledgeable abot cars other than subarus, just doing this for a mate
-
Yeh thats what I thort of but could have issues trying to seal sump up again,, and front diff runs thru the sump so im a bit skeptical about how much ill be able to force it down,, haha yeh deffinatly a pain in the ass job lol
-
Yeh ive got all front end of engine apart allready but feels like its hooking up on presure relief valve (big bolt at under side) i dont want to bar it off in case it damages something
-
Sounds like it could be afm run your code checks, or just unplug afm and see if it makes it run worse
-
Hey guys has any one on here ever replaced a RB oil pump, its on a gts4 rb20det im wanting to know is it posible to do with out droping the sump, because thats a major being 4wd
-
haha Nah they wernt powder coated mine were painted, by mag master off 15th ave
-
green ones maybe aftermarket??
-
Oh and the engine that was in it has the old gt heads with the lines but I woulda thort thats how the early auto GTBs were?
-
Thanks guys, was confusing me a bit but sounds like purple will be the go,
Its not an auto anymore its been converted to manual, haha nah not bigend failure but i brought with suspected headgasket turned out to be a nice big hole blown in the side of the bore lol some1 must of been running extreme boost into it,
Yip definatly grey injectors
Its a facelift 96
my new engine will come with airbox piping etc just need to find a purple afm now
-
Oh rite, from what i can gather from trademe etc it should have a blue afm but thort someone on here mite be able to tell me to be sure by going an eng model or chassis number

I find it heaps better for getting off the line consistenty each time, and boost is already there, just dump the clutch or it will smoke your clutch if it hasnt already, it should just wheel spin not clutch slip
