  1. Ha ! I've already taken her out twice. What does she want, flowers and a hug. Goddamn it.
  2. So today I did some more mods to my car. And by mods, I mean I put a new clip on the brake line, and put on a new horn ( as the old one sounded like a squealing girl ) Anyway, that was all fine, horn works, and I drove it home, and put it in the garage. Went to collect in the washing, and my car was still going ?!? So I just assumed the turbo timer was being silly. So I checked it out, it was stuck on 30s, and not counting down. So I put down the handbrake ( as a safety it's meant to switch the engine off ). Still going. Switched the turbo timer off, car still going. Went around the front and scratched my head, car still going. Took the negative terminal off the battery, car still going ( but not so surprised on that ) In the end I had to use the great big kill button on the bonnet. That stopped it. So, I'm wondering, what on earth would I have knocked when changing the brake clip/horn could've caused that ? I know it wasn't the brake clip.
  3. Yeah, that's what I thought aswell. I think when people heard about the new dyno, it was maybe the new hubs that Richard replaced on it recently. . .
  4. Ohh, interesting. Shred did buy the old one, you're right. But I certainly didn't hear anything about CF getting a new one. But it appears they may have My car will be in there to get tuned on this new dyno of Shred's, so I will report back with the results of what they achieve, as it may be of use to Wellington based people.
  5. Richard isn't there anymore it appears. Chequered Flag has been "relocated" to Shred Performance in Lower Hutt. Richard was there yesterday helping them set up the dyno . .
  6. Hi All, I was wondering if someone could explain this TCF thing to me. I was out watching a car get dynoed yesterday, and it was coming up as, I don't know, maybe 429kw. He said something like "Now, if I wanted to cheat someone and show them I'd gained them heaps of power, and they didn't know what we were talking about, I'd just change this figure here to, say 1.2, and hide it on the dyno sheet", and so he did that, and it came up as 509kw or so. ( note: he changed it straight back, he wasn't trying to fool anyone ) I imagine TCF could be used for drivetrain loss. So, I notice some on here have the TCF hidden, is that just standard ? And some different dynos don't even have it. But if some say TCF of 1, and some say "Power at Engine", aren't they like 20% or so different ?
  7. That *is* interesting. Confusing, but interesting.
  8. Hmm well to control it I bought a G4 today, with that boost solenoid thingie. So we'll see what it does on the dyno !
  9. Heyyy, now that's interesting. I shall do some more research on that
  10. *sigh* Oh well. I guess I'll have to hunt for one of those a bit more enthusiastically now
  11. Something like a G3 or G4 would take care of all of this won't it ?
  12. Just a straight swap, no lines changed at all. And yep, it does run the factory ECU and boost control.
  13. Yeah, 18psi was what I thought was safe, after tuning etc. The VF28 was at 18psi, 1.2bar I think. But I still don't know what to do to lower it, as I don't want to break anything. But, yes, the RA is indeed extra awesome. I got some wicked mad props by a pulsar driven local.
  14. UPDATE ! OK, the smoke burnt off after a few runs bedding in the brakes. The fans started after we massaged some air out of the coolant, and the high revving stooped when we CRC'd the throttle cable. Then out for a test drive and everything went fine. Possibly too fine, as one the first foot flat go, it boosted to 1.5bar. I think 1.5bar is too high, though I will get it checked for fuel. But does anyone agree that this is too high ?
  15. Just checked it, no check engine lights on.
  16. Cool, thanks for your help. Hmm, where would the coolant temp sensor be ? I hope we don't have to remove everything to find it And, I bought new gaskets for it, so didn't use any sealant. There's just sooo much smoke, like it was smoking for a good 5 minutes. However, there was no oil on the ground this time.
  17. Hi All, OK, yesterday we managed to get the turbo mounted on the pipe. It required a girl with little hands. So we put the whole thing together, and just started it up. Currently it is doing the following : 1) Very Smokey ! From around the exhaust housing flange thing. Can't see too much because of the heat shield 2) Revs high, about 2,500-3000, even when warm 3) The fans don't seem to turn on even when it reached middle of the temperature gauge. We've tried to do this thing for about 8 hours now ( but it is sunny, so I can't complain too much ). Currently I am leaning towards just putting it on a flatbed out to Al Mclennan this afternoon/tomorrow, as maybe this is just outside our basic skill level.
  18. Cool thanks everyone. We're trying to do the pipe without anything else attached, and still can't get it. As soon as we press the turbo down, it bends, and we can't get to it to straighten it up. Let's see what the manual says . . .
  19. How did you get to the hose clamp to do it up ? We can't even get it in the pipe, it kinds just moves it to the side. ( so, yeaahh, oil fell out on first start ) There just isn't any room to get to the clamp, the pipe, or anything for it.
  20. Yeah we can't reach it from underneath, there's a brackets and all sorts in the way. Looking forward to the manual !
  21. Nope, it's still there. neither failed or broken. The problem is, you can't keep it open when pressing down on it. It is impossible to get to. Are you saying to take the whole pipe out ? Then how do you re-attach it to the bottom ? If you tried to hold the clip open, you can't push in the turbo oil down pipe thing. Have you done this before ?
  22. So, we're currently installing a new turbo on the 1998 WRX STI RA. Got the old VF28 turbo off, but having real problems getting it to attach back to the oil return house. Has anyone actually swapped out these turbo's before, and how did you reattach it ? Somewhere else it says : "it's possible to pull the turbo out without releasing this clip - the clip's spring design giving this degree of flexibility." However, it appears that clip released. So, we're really stuck here, not sure of the next step. Any help would be appreciated.
  23. That's brilliant, thanks for your help !
  24. Hi All, Does anyone happen to know the factory wastegate actuator pressure for the VF22 ? If my terminology is off, apologies in advance. My usually godlike skills at google are failing me this morning. C.
  25. Exactly ! I saw that, as I painted them, so I just assumed my friend had seen them. Now, strangely, this is also the friend who builds the aircraft engines for Peter Jackson's vintage aircraft, so I just assumed he'd checked it out properly. Safety is of paramount importance.
