  1. Sounds good. My mate has a 91 civic and seems to think he can rev it out to 11000rpm constantly and that the motor will hack it . Just waiting for the day for it to pop, could be a while though as its out of service due to a majorly slipping clutch ;D
  2. Perhaps, my mate had a 97 type S prelude with the red top engine and it was a great car, other than torque steer being a pain in 1st and 2nd. Cant judge without giving the toyota a go though i suppose.
  3. Hmm. Well browsing this caught my attention ; http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Toyota/Levin/auction-237312266.htm However, seen as fuel isnt really a big deal to me this Honda also looked rather tidy especially the interior; http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=243563364
  4. Never been in a BZR so wouldnt know. Been in a few BZG's though and they seem to go alright. More than alright for a wee 1600
  5. Well at least it would be reliable / cheap on gas while still being a 'youthful' car , after all i am only 18 . As for the bearing, yes. Yes your right.
  6. Yeah. Did it on the way back to dunedin from blossom fest. Drove it about 160kms to my house without it seizing or anything - it did however stall 3 times and sounds like a tractor. No plans on going single or anything like that. I either plan to replace the engine and sell the car on, or get a full rebuild (including replacing all seals, timing belt, clutch etc) and keep the car for the next 5 years until my education is complete. A second hand engine would be a cheaper option but i would be wanting to take out a mechanical warranty which adds to the costs. To do a rebuild Southern have quoted me 4.5-5k all up - obviously using genuine parts and 1 year warranty Unsure of which way to swing. I figure if i sell my car what would i buy that is reliable and for about 6 to 10 grand. The only thing i could come up with was a 97-98 BZR 6spd toyota levin.
  7. Hi all, So my B4 just threw its BEB .. great . Just wondering whether anyone would have a spare car i could borrow in Dunedin while mine is being fixed in Southern Motors. Dont need the car till Mon 5th Oct as i can get a ride to work / borrow a car till then. Happy to fill the tank on return or something. Cheers, Ben
  8. Would be keen to meet up, hopefully it will be a little warmer outside
  9. Ben

    cooling problem

Same problem happened with my '99 B4 last month. Top of plastic radiator cowling's seam (hope that made sense) that connects to the top of radiator perished. You could fill the header tank with a hose, give the engine a rev and the water would pour out the top of the radiator. Had to get the AA to come tow it to my garage down the road as car was obviously undriveable. End result was radiator repair and re-flush etc costing $430. If i had expected the bill to be so high i would have contemplated purchasing a new alloy radiator off TradeMe for around the $300 mark and installing myself. Hope this helps
  10. Was thinking about it for a little fun but didnt get organised in time. Thought it had been cancelled this year as the event was not noted on the Blossom Fest website like last year - Glad its not though, main reason i go up to the festival ;D
  11. Sounds fun, would be keen too. Voting for a Sat
  12. Ok, so out of curiosity i tried the wee "mod". Took the car for a drive around the block - boost on primary remained constant at 15psi. However, going up a hill i dropped from 4th to 3rd (remaining on the primary turbo) and got a boost spike of 17-18psi before it dropped back to 15psi. I also noted that sometimes while boosting on primary the car would sometimes still remain at 10psi. VOD was awful if you changed into it at 15psi too! Have to admit, the torque was so much better with the line disconnected especially in 2nd gear. Not enough for me to keep the line disconnected though.
  13. Hi all Randomly browsing i came across this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t10LQvwubDA Just interested what 'line 10' is connected to? Can the primary turbo's on the gt/b4 handle 15psi? Curious really thats all!
  14. Hi all, So the B4's clutch is starting to wear out - Slipping minorly on the hills if you give it too much gas etc. Went to my local garage who quoted $1090.00 for a replacement. $630 for clutch kit plus labour. This sound about right? Seems a bit pricey to me especially for a standard clutch. Also, anyone recommend a suitable clutch for my car e.g heavy duty. Dont thrash my car but it does get a bit of abuse every now and then. Thanks, Ben
  15. Yeah they were spaced evenly all the way up the pillar.
  16. Thanks for the input guys. I ended up buying a cup and screwing into the panel. Went to Otago Wrecker's, bought a new plastic pillar piece for $10 so if the gauge ever need's to come out i have a replacement. On a quick note, does anyone (that has guages mounted to their pillar) have trouble with the WOF inspectors? My mate failed his wof because he had 3 guages attached to his pillar because they could cause injury in a crash. Arn't anything fancy, standard gauges fitted in standard cups.
  17. Hi all. Just wanting to know how people mounted their boost gauges. Am wanting to put one on the driver's pillar side, with as little molestation of the interior parts as possible. Pics would be good. Thanks, Ben
  18. Mine takes a while to start ,more so when cold and especially if it hasnt been parked in the garage overnight. I find my car with a cold engine takes around 2-3 seconds to get running . How long are you talking when you say 'takes a bit of turning over to start'?
  19. Ben

    Voltage

    Mine sits 13.2 - 13.4 idle. 13.5 - 14 general driving.
  20. Whoops, im having one of those days. Boost / sequential - my bad ;D . Got the answer i was looking for anyway. Thanks.
  21. Sorry for the thread hijack Omegah, but it seems more sensible adding to your topic than creating a new one ;D. I too am after a boost controller. Mainly to reduce VOD - 4k RPM's is were i generally like to change gear when cruising! Was looking at this from 41 ; http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Subaru/ECUs/auction-234784856.htm . That what im after? Also i read somewhere that you also need wiring harness to install? Any help would be good as i dont have any knowledge on boost controllers. Thanks.
  22. yeah good meet, alot of new faces recently. Good crowd of people though
  23. Mines all washed now. 5km's down my dirt road to keep it clean ftw. . .
