  2. Hi all, For you more \'seasoned\' subaru experts. I am fairly certain this is a genuine STI but can anyone point out any floors? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/subaru/auction-677452184.htm VIN: 7A8GF090708076126 Engine No: EJ20-369167 Chassis No: GC8-076126 This also threw me ; Registered Overseas: No First registered in NZ: 16/01/2009 (5 years) Last Registration: 12/04/2013 Re-registered but this could be explained because for some reason it was re-registered? 3. Great - forgot to mention i only need a parts cost. As I have labour covered. Also is anyone able to let me know what basic/ main components I would need for the rebuild?
  4. Hi all, I am looking at buying a V5 STI. The KMS are getting rather high and no matter what people tell me I am buying the car with the expectations of having to do one. I know asking the common \'rebuild cost\' question is one that is a never ending string line however a rough estimate is all I need. Im not interested in \'forged\' parts etc. Just a rough cost based on the BEB blowing. Stop driving it straight away. Cost to get it back on the road without doing the extras like Clutch / Water Pump etc. Im not looking for a definite figure but a estimate would be helpful with regards to what I think the car is worth.
  5. Hi all, Has anyone heard of the STI spec S ? My friend has recently aquired one and I was considering a new toy. It is registered as a spec s but can\'t seem to find any info on such model ?
  6. good purchase, was this the one for sale in queenstown by any chance?
  7. High kms but if the price is right and your happy with it id go for it. My car is in the same boat ; 2007 with 180kms on it but you would never know it - hot km running and pretty much a one driver vehicle so is virtually untouched. With those kind of kms on the GTB you would expect the same and the engine in fairly good nick. As for items such as cv\'s, clutch etc most of the parts that have worn most likely have been replaced already. Hope this helps, more opinions than facts here but . .

    Price of certs?

All pretty much the same price- feel free to correct me if im wrong fellow members but as far as im aware from what a certifier told me they only make around $100 per certification issued . . about $330-360 goes to the government :-\
  9. Belt seems buggered, dont really have the tools either. I am currently away now and I have no hesitation in saying my sister has any mechanical know how =)!
  10. Hi there everyone, My sister has a 2005 Subaru Impreza / 2L Auto / Non-Turbo / Version 8 shape Hatchback. We recently have wondered why the air conditioning has not been really \' working \' to cool us down on these 20+ degree weather. Today on the way home she found that white smoke was coming through the vents although not a vast amount. I have had a quick look and it appears the air con belt is slightly slipping and is not fully turning the pully it is attached to. As you may know this time of year is very busy for mechanics and I have no hope in getting it fixed before christmas. I was wondering whether you are able to tell me this; Am I able to continue driving the vehicle with the loose belt, providing the air con and fan is not being used in the cabin? Or is this belt needed for the motor to function correctly? I obviously dont want to do any damage to the vehicle but it really is a pain if the car is out of action until i get the belt replaced. Any help appreciated, Ben
  11. All very good points. I would have no problem purchasing a V9 STI, however there are not many around and they seem to be fairly closely priced to the eagle eye which i quite like the look of.
  12. Wow that does seem a bit cheap, although given the kms and the paint needed to make it mint again (if your like me and would be that way inclined) it sounds about right? In reply to the first post, yes your figures are what I have in my mind too. They haven\'t appeared to have shown any drop in price in the last 1-1.5 years? Strange - I wish I could say the same for my car! Also to note when I say V10, i am referring to the eagle eye shape
  13. Hi all, After spending about a year away from Subaru\'s and owning my current ride, a CL9 accord euro I am contemplating coming back to the dark side and purchasing another Subaru. I am really in the market for a V8 or a V10 sti - in any colour other than black, standard-ish and in top condition both inside and out. I have already owned a V7 WRX so if i was to buy another I would like to upgrade to something newer. My friend recently sold his V10 non-sti / NZ new / 2.5L which was a great car, however people seem to look negatively towards this motor? After browsing TradeMe it appears im not going to get either of the above cars without forking out a rather large 19-25k. If i remember correctly this was the price of them a year ago!? What sort of money do these vehicles actually sell for? Do people genuinely sell these vehicles or do they just sit listed for months? As far as I was aware nobody has this kind of cash to buy performance cars of this nature in today\'s economy. What are your thoughts?
  14. Hi all, Just a quick question - Does anyone do window tinting in Dunedin? As in a business that does a top notch job. Im looking at getting my Euro tinted but as they dont have frameless doors and I cant be bothered taking all the windows out I was looking at getting them done elsewhere. Dont really mind the cost just want a perfect job. My other intention was to go up to Christchurch to Tint A Car or similar but im happy to go local if anyone knows any pros around? Thanks, Ben
  15. Link does not work for me? Details?
  16. Thanks GT_Head , will give you guys a ring tomorrow regarding. Thanks!
  17. Oh , never thought of trademe. Will have a look and see whats around. Thanks =)
  18. Hi all, Am wanting to put a tow bar on my car for the trailer etc (I live on a farm and its a pain not having one!) . Just wondering if anyone suggests where to go? There doesn't seem to be a 'tow bar shop' as such in Dunedin, unlike some of the larger cities. Any ideas? Many thanks Ben
  19. hmm yeah . . . will have a talk and see what the go is. The car is actually a gravel express with a V5 front. Probably worth $3500 so was tossing up the options if it was actually worth getting a vin or just scrapping it. Thanks for your help everyone !
  20. Hi all, So in a bit of a pickle, well my friend is. I will try and put it as simply as possible. Any help or advice would be great; - My friend 'A' had a Skyline which he swapped for a V4 WRX. - The next day he swapped the WRX to his friend 'B" for another vehicle. Now the problem is that the person who originally owned the WRX was not happy with the Skyline after the sale, so the next day he decided to be a #$#$ and de registered the vehicle before change of ownership was completed. Friend 'A' did not transfer into his name as he knew friend 'B' was getting the WRX. Hence the original owner had time to de register it while still in his name ('A' now knows this was a mistake but didn't think someone would do this out of spite!' ) What can be done about this? The car is deregistered now and to re VIN it would be a costly and expensive procedure! The cheapest option we have thought of was to either sell the car for parts, or buy a rolling body with live plates and swap everything over. HMM? Any ideas or advice would be great. I hope I have explained things as simply as possible! Thanks in advanced!
  21. Yeah i imagine they are a cheap brand of springs or something . Im looking at getting something to lose a bit of the body roll but dont want to sacrifice comfort for ride stiffness. Any suggestions on a spring brand? I should also note that they are not going in my subaru. I am planning on taking a bit of dead space from around the rims in my newly aquired cl7 accord euro
  22. Hi guys, Just wondering whether anyone knew of any reputable places to get my car lowered using lowering springs? Have talked to mag and turbo a few months ago and they quoted $600.00 . This included purchasing the springs, fitment and a wheel alignment. Does anyone in Dunedin beat this price? Not too worried about a alignment as I can arrange to get this done for next to nothing anyway. Cheers Ben
  23. Anyone local who wants a rage full exhaust system ? 3 inch straight through. Next to brand new . Had it on my v 10 wrx but sold car a month later . Looking at getting rid of it . Paid 1100 for it . Not looking at anywhere near that . Interested ? Not on here much so text 027 4542 682
  24. I have a version 7 wrx and the seats are firmly in place with no middle arm rest in the rear. My friend has a V10 with leather (don't know if this makes a difference), he has a arm rest but no ski-shoot in the middle nor collapsable seats. Both are sedans. Hope this helps !
  25. Well turns out it was the seals that had gone. Replaced with genuine parts at a total cost of $80. Nicely done, thanks guys
