  1. hrmm, don't have one of those so might give it a bash & test on a trailer when I'm done, worked OK last time. cheers
  2. Hi guys, I'm in the process of wiring up a trailer connection plug to our BG5 Legacy and am having some trouble, hoping someone can help me out please. I've tracked down some wiring diagrams, but when looking at the lighting connections going into the right side tail lamp assembly I can't find the wiring I need for the left indicator. Here are some photos to help: I purchased the wiring parts individually from Partsmaster (for half the price of Supercheap Auto!) so am using these connectors to attach new wiring to old: http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/84/193307684_full.jpg Here is a shot of the trailer connection wiring cable, showing the five color wires I have to work with green, yellow, brown, red, black: http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/16/193307716_full.jpg This is the wiring I've pulled out from behind the right side tail lamp assembly: http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/82/193307782_full.jpg Here is the wiring diagram showing the plugs: http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/22/193307922_full.jpg Plug legend to go with the last photo: http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/85/193308085_full.jpg The wiring diagram for the stop lights: http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/88/193308288_full.jpg I wired up my Impreza for a towbar connection last year & that was relatively more easy for some reason. If anyone can help I'd be much appreciated! Thanks
  3. thanks everyone that posted useful info. Got stereo sorted by taking it to auto-sparky - turns out the faulty alarm was contributing...
  4. that would much appreciated if anyone is able to help otherwise I'm off to the auto electrician with wallet in hand
  5. cheers for the multimeter & test light ideas, any ideas what the cable connection is that seems to be causing all the problems??
  6. ok, had a go from that wiring diagram and got some interesting results: the good: -wired the speakers fine, all operational & sounding 100%! the bad: -now the door-ajar beep now beeps whenever the key is in the ignition, even when door is shut, even when car is moving WTF?! -interior light no longer works. -'door open' lights on dash no longer work. any ideas? I'm guessing its related to whatever that plug is in the last photo, question is what is it & how do I adapt it to this new stereo??
  7. thanks guys, found wiring diagram that may help: http://www.oocities.com/svxdc/Legacy-pinout.htm will go give it a bash
  8. Hi guys, I need help with wiring up headunit please, as the factory wiring colours don't match the new headunit wire colour. I've wired up a headunit before and it was easy because all the wire colours were the same, not this time tho & I'm confused. I've had a go connecting the few wires that match colour 100%, like solid green and the thicker yellow & black wires. Problem is the coloured wires from the car are colurs like: red/yellow stripe, red/black stripe, green/white stripe, white/brown stripe etc... Should I also provide an earth of the thicker black wire??? Here are some shots of the wiring: Here is a photo of the instructions: Also, while disconnecting the factory headunit - I found it had wires to a white connector that I'm unfamiliar with as this is not on the new headunit - can anyone identify this: Any help is much appreciated!
  9. and the cost - those rolls aren't cheap if you are going thru a few like they would be!
  10. cheers - had a feeling they were pretty much landfill
  11. cheers guys - made it thru from Taupo > Ohope > Tauranga > Taupo no worries. Stoked because it was a hot day and towing a trailer with 200kgs and no overheating issues, fingers crossed I'm over them (for now anyways)!
  12. Cheers boostin - all sorted & man do they sound good! Quite surprised the factory original speakers were Clarions. Even tho the foam has deteriorated, do they have any other use or is it time for the dump?
  13. yeap, you guys were right on the money - I hadn't even finished taking the door cards off & the rubber surrounds were already falling out of the gap and to the ground! heres a pic: So I'm guessing I just pull the old speaker wires out of the bottom of the white connector box & simply insert the new wires as they were, white to white & stripe to stripe?
  14. cheers boostin! Tried taking just the speaker cover off, but turns out its all molded as one with the rest of the door card - glad I didn't use more force & munt it
  15. cheers for the offer Aim, but I'm in Taupo so no good as freight would be a killer - thanks anyways. We got a set of speakers from the supercheap auto sale, now I need to find out how to remove the door card without breaking the tabs & clips. I can only find three screw covers (shown circled in red in second photo) are there any more? Whats the trick to removing the cards? here is the door card panel: and with the only screw covers I could find: Cheers!
  16. Hi, We have a nana-spec 1996 JDM 2.0litre TX type S Legacy with the factory original am/fm cassette deck head unit. It sounds tinny, but is it likely to be the speakers or the headunit (or both) thats to blame? We want to upgrade the head unit to a cd/mp3 model soon, but is this gonna be a waste of time unless we upgrade the speakers too? I know the speakers are old and are likely to be deteriorating - but we aren't audiophiles so don't need 110% perfect sound - just would prefer no static-y sounds that we have now. Any ideas?
  17. Hi guys, Anyone know of some decent mechanics & towing companys around Whakatane / Murupara / Rotorua they can recommend? Looks like we'll be traveling from Taupo to Whakatane on good friday & since I've had a few radiator pipes on my WRX burst over the last year or so, and I'm now a little nervous about getting stranded on side of the road. I've tried a google & only come up with Commerce street Autos & marshall batteries for basic repairs / towing. I'll be carrying a flagon or two of water & also duct tape, for what they are worth - my last leak was beneath the top mount intercooler & took a nechanic something like 6 hours to find & fix, so little chance of me joe average fixing that one... Cheers!
  18. just borrowed a trailer & all lights work fine, hope I can return the favour someday!
