  1. Wow! I\'m guessing you can\'t just check an injector easily ?
  2. There\'s a long way to go before I even remotely entertain the idea of parallel twin turbo setup.
  3. Yea? I remember our old one used to stink of petrol while it was warming up.
  4. Thanks mate, I\'m going to go to the mechanics tomorrow and get it scanned if they have the time. I know I can do a self diagnosti on the car but that won\'t show real time numbers etc. I know the last time I had our old car scanned the O2 sensor was "lazy" according to the mechanic and a change helped fuel consumption massively.
  5. Ok, I remember on our old car used to get about 500ks combined driving to a tank and on the open road upwards of 600km. This new car is looking like I\'ll get less than 450k\'s to a tank and that\'s almost all open road driving. As for the revs, they\'re definitely a little higher. We had out last Blitzen for over 5 years and knew it\'s habits well. Our last car would average about 10l/100ks and was as good as 8.2l/100ks. Being that we had the same kind of car last time, I haven\'t been driving the thing any different to the last one. How do I do an ecu reset?
  6. Also how the hell do I do an ECU reset and is it something I can cock up and lead to big repair bills?
  7. HAHAHA the old right foot, how dod I not think of that? Lol. I don\'t think it\'s running higher boost, it feels no different to the last car and there is no boost controller to be seen in the car. It\'s a 2000 Blitzen that\'s only just done 110ks. Full receipts for cambelt about 6k ago and the gearbox had a full service about the same time. Car is super tidy and doesn nothing out of the ordinary except use a fair bit more gas than our old one. Definitely a scan needed, will that show a sensor on the way out? Could the oil be a contributing factor? There\'s the remainder of the oil used in the last service left in a 5litre bottle and I can\'t think of the brand but I think it\'s 5w-40 semi synthetic. I always used castrol edge 5w-30 in our last car.
  8. I\'ve recently got a "new" car after writing our Blitzen off. I got another one, Lol. Anyway this new one goes incredibly well but it uses quite a lot more gas than the old one. Don\'t ask for exact numbers but I know it\'s using more. One thing I\'ve noticed is that at highway speeds the engine revs a little higher than the old car but only by about 200rpm so that doesn\'t really seem like the culprit? It uses no oil and the water level is rock steady, the brakes aren\'t binding at all, the tyres and whels are factory size too. Obviously dirty air filters, munted AFM and O2 sensors can cause issues but there\'s no codes showing up. I need to get it in to a mechanic for a scan but until then it\'d be good to at least know what might cause higher fuel use. I\'m going to guess it might be a sensor on the way out and it\'s just not throwing codes yet?
  9. So then 5w-30 is fine if it\'s for your daily driver that\'s not thrashed even with a turbo?
  10. Really, too thin? Odd then that when I took my car for a service at Southern Motors in Dunedin they used full synthetic 5w-30, a 2001 Legacy Blitzen with 180ks at the time btw. This thread makes me laugh.
  11. Kinda like a reply on "suitable oils" thread where someone said oil got thicker the hotter it got. lol.
  12. Abdul, have you ever thought that you could have probably bought a Lamborghini with all the money you\'ve thrown at your Legacy? Lol.
  13. So how exactly does one go about washing a K&N filter and oiling it?
  14. Had a new head unit installed and I\'m glad I didn\'t attempt it on my own. The wiring was a mess! The auto sparky was amazed that someone could install a stereo that badly. New unit works a treat. Also paid attention and would try it on my own next time, that is if the wiring hasn\'t been butchered.
  15. I got in touch with redline performance and they recommend the HKS dry type filter. I might get one but there\'s something about the K&N that makes me really want to try one? I might get one and just budget on a new AFM, lol.
  16. I\'ve seen HKS ones for sale on Trademe but doubt they\'d be legit?
  17. See, the idea of more air flow is nice but I\'m not loving the idea of screwing the AFM or letting more drt into the engine. What other brands can you all recommend?
  18. The stuff I used was free, that\'s always been my favourite price, lol.
  19. The solution has been right in front of me this whole time! I\'ve been on ACC for a few weeks so haven\'t thought about work much. Anyway, we use a Dulux cut and polish product to buff out minor scratches on powder coated aluminium joinery. I went into work today and after speaking with my boss I grabbed some of it and thought is give it a go. It took a bit of elbow grease but was well worth it. Holy shit it works ! Both headlights look as good as new now. I now need to find a product to seal the headlight and protect the finish, any recommendations?
  20. OK, I\'ll check out the options next time I\'m in Repco or Supercheap etc.
  21. Yea I don\'t like the idea of having to replace the AFM. What would you guys recommend instead of stock or ryco type filter?
  22. Can someone explain why they command the price they do and if they\'re "worth" it? I was in Repco the other day and saw them behind the counter, asked the guy about them and the price and he said for my Legacy it\'d be $150. FOR A FILTER!!!!! Am I right in saying they\'re an oiled filter, is this ok and will it affect the MAF sensor?
  23. Mate they\'re scratched, no doubt about it. Funny thing is its only the left one. I think someone had a go and started on the left one and once it dried thought, "Oops". I\'m gonna give autosol a go and see if I have any success willh that. Does the surface need sealed once complete?
