  1. Checked both drums and nothing out of the ordinary or leaks around the cylinder. A lot of dust and crap so I cleaned them both out. The front brake didn't show any premature wearing or seizing either, put it back on and bolted everything up and it seems to turn a bit easier for some reason but still has quite a bit of resitance. I am stumped ???
  2. Drums on the rear, The weird thing is that the front right brake works fine - its even slightly better than than the left one. I thought if it had seized it might effect its braking ability?
  3. Well my 1.6l 1993 impreza failed on a few things for the WOF but I need help on the brake related issues. I haven't really had much to do with brakes other than bleeding them etc so I really don't have much idea on how to adjust them and what-not. I might just have to take it into a mechanic and bite the bullet but I thought it was worth posting here first. The first issue is that the rear brakes are quite imbalanced - the left coming up as 112 kN and the right as 167 kN. Under heavy braking I often feel a shudder which might be because of this. Is there any tricks or checklist to go through when dealing with this sort of thing? The second issue is that the front right brake has "seized". I don't think it has actually seized but it doesn't freely turn (spin the wheel and it will just stop). Could possibly be a wheel bearing but I am sure the WOF inspector would have picked up on that. Any help would be much appreciated, Cheers
  4. Yeah, check the CEL codes. Does the fuel pump start up when you turn the ignition key? My fuel pump went recently and I could hear a distinctive "whine" coming from it before it crapped out - you didn't hear anything like that?
  5. Hey thanks for the help guys Tried that Subaru dealer site which seems promising but I keep getting "HTTP verb 405 error". Might try again later. Cheers
  6. Well one of my belts is starting to make a squeal and one of my rocker cover gaskets is leaking a bit so I thought its time I replaced them. Unfortunately the only parts store for miles is repco and apparently their rocker cover gaskets are rubbish. So does anyone know anyone on this site that can order in genuine Subaru parts at a reasonable price? Cheers
  7. Fitted pump and it runs like a dream ;D And I just got a great offer on it as well - I will be sad to see it go :'( But I'm getting a non-turbo '95 legacy sedan as part payment as well so its not all bad
  8. I have never understood why people do single conversions on a WORKING engine?? Why not sell the leggy and use the cash plus 3k to get a wrx? No single conversion required ;D Other than that, oil all round, cambelt, zero sports sequential controller and then bank the rest for the rebuild.
  9. Well as i have checked over the engine multiple times, found out that there is no additional pump to pressurize the fuel before its injected (very surprising). So I am thinking maybe there could be air in the fuel pump causing low pressure? Is this possible? Either way another CS member has sold me a secondhand pump that works - so I will fit that when it arrives and see what happens. I am finally getting the whole Subaru experience ;D
  10. Yeah, compression seems fine. Any more ideas?
  11. Took AFM off - no difference. Had a look at the fuel pump - definitely working as when you turn the ignition on you can hear it running for a few seconds. I took off the fuel line past the filter and it is flowing petrol so its not as if the line is blocked. Put my finger over and there was a bit of pressure but I would have expected more from a twin turbo car. I have nothing to compare it against so I guess the next step is to check the pressure? What pressure should it be? Its not the fact that it isn't running that annoys me, its the fact that I have no definite ideas as to why.
  12. Just out of curiosity, what usually craps out with the pump. Is it just the pump that usually needs replacing or all the wires etc as well - or is there anything else that I should replace to make sure? Cheers
  13. Ok I'll try the AFM. The whine has gone away completely now and it doesn't start, i.e. when you turn the ignition on or try start it. At one point it was whining with the ignition on and it would start and run fine. Wouldn't the AFM throw a code? Anyway, definitely worth a try. Cheers
  14. Well as the title suggest, my Subaru Legacy RS 1994 will not start. Now here is my best explanation Note that: -The car has had no problems up until now in this regard -The second to last start there was some hesitation and it didn't immediately fire up -It started "wirring" from the rear of the car after the hesitant start, I pulled over and stopped the engine and the when the wirring stopped completely it was then that the car refused to start. The car is throwing no codes. As far as the wirring noise is concerned I was almost positive that it was the aerial as the aerial is broken and makes funny noises, but never a constant wirring. So the old fuel, spark, compression test: -It was low on fuel, not on E or fuel light but I think the gauge is faulty so it was quite low. I put some more fuel in it and instead of just refusing to start, it would start and run at 1k rpm and then slowly die. If the throttle was touched at ANY point it would immediately die. -Seeing as it would start and run for a bit and up until this point it was fine I am assuming that the spark and compression is fine. So all this evidence points to lack of fuel, maybe blocked lines etc so: -Can anyone tell me the numbers and locations of fuel related problems (i.e. lines) that I can check? Cheers Nick P.S In hindsight maybe the fuel pump is located by the fuel tank (i.e. in the rear) and the wirring was the fuel pump? Can anyone confirm? http://www.car-stuff.com/subarufuelpump.htm - Maybe this is my problem?
  15. The thing I want to know is how Subaru stumbled on the acronym STi ;D I always thought it would be funny if Mitsubishi released the evo STd as a limited edition model - but then again I'm immature @Dpi I haven't actually driven every evo, sti or legacy but was just making a generalization based on what I have heard. I was always under the impression that: Track: evo>wrx sti>wrx>legacy Road: legacy>wrx>wrx sti>evo But I guess it depends on the year/model etc
  16. Hmm from what I've heard its kind of like the legacy vs wrx debate. One is better for the road, the other on the track. I have also heard the BEB are easily replaced on an evo but I'm not sure? I personally like the boxer engine and the subaru look better (god the evo spoiler is ugly) but at the end of the day if I had the money I would probably go evo. All the rumors of BEB failures etc has just made me think every time I hop in my car that it could be the last.
  17. I'm with NAC and it costs me $216 just for third party on my RS. Mind you, I got this policy when I was 16, on my restricted, first car and it had modifications...... I think its about $400 with theft from memory? There are plenty of insurance companies that do specialized cover - just read the fine print! One tried to get me to do full coverage with a $2200 excess when the car is only worth $3000. : Just some obvious things to check for is: -no noises when changing gear -no evidence of a crash -Put it in fourth, handbrake on, give it a bit of revs and let the clutch out. It should stall. If not the clutch has probably had it. -check that the tyres have even amounts of tread -while driving along a straight road, when it is safe, let go of the steering wheel and see if it tries to pull to one side. Note that it should slowly move left due to the camber on the road. -and last but not least, CHECK THE SERVICE HISTORY. If it hasn't been regularly serviced don't even bother with it unless you get it checked over by a mechanic. Just remember that there are hundreds of old legacy wagons about for cheap - so if this one isn't that great, pass it on and look at some others. Good luck!
  18. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Subaru/WRX/auction-259137302.htm wow....
  19. So if they are similar, could you swap the two to even out the wear? ;D Or am I just talking out my ass?
