so heres my story..
after finding a nice looking v5 sti on trademe i organised to go pick it up
hired a trailer and drove 9 hours (auckland to welly) on arrival all looked
as good as a parted car could so bought it trailered her back to auckland and
after a week or so of tinkering i discovered that it had late model gt heads on
shim over bucket (ew) so there was my first problem it wasnt even sti .
so my next problem came in the form of a famous big end bearing knock
even more joys for this nice cheap and easy fix. so out the motor came and out
came the money in my wallet .
i purchased a V7 sti shortblock off of gotasuby v6 sti heads new steel gaskets new headbolts bloody new everything and the sent off to get the heads skimmed .
received my shortblock last tuesday and built her up hard and fast lol had the motor in on thursday running friday .
so heres some pix
BIG THANKS to Gotasuby , and Ryan for machining my heads and everyone on here that help answer all my questions and querys you guys are awsome

yes, but WHY are you fitting an old pump to a new engine?
Subaru now sell shortblock kits with new pump and oil cooler - AND MUST be fitted for warranty purpose's
/quote]
its not a "new" engine . not brand new anyways

no i sourced one from a wreckers it had 50-60 thousand kz it went really well yes i used the v3sti heads because the car i rebuilt already had a full v3 sti motor with a fried piston so it was just what was available . i loved how it ran it was a very nice motor
-
depends on the heads and block your using (for size) steel ones tho
-
im pretty sure exhausts are all the same
-
ive heard the v4sti heads are the best option for a strong build (if ur working with 1-4 bits)
