  1. Sounds about right, cold starts can be difficult on E85 but once it warms up theres no issue.
  2. Had read the Subaru blurb about how its not recommended for any of their vehicles apart from the select few NZ new ones, due to possible damage to rubber components. However, I plan to be running a Walbro pump, apparently these are fine with E85. Also will be running split rails with Siemens 875cc injectors, and an aftermarket pressure reg, both fine with E85. Which basically leaves the rubber hosing I guess that may not be compatible with the fuel. I take it not many people on here run it in their road cars yet though in NZ, just thought id see if anyones had any first hand experience in particular the later model (V7 and up) Subarus, of which seem to be very popular overseas running E85.
  3. Just wondering if anyone has given E85 a go in their Subaru ? All properly tuned of course. Thinking of getting big injectors and pump and tuning to it in my V9 Sti, seeing as its on pump here in Hamilton. Seems to be very popular in the US, capable of providing substantial gains over regular gasoline thanks to its cooler burning, great knock resistance, etc. Some even getting over 400hp with a simple turbo and fuel system upgrade and well tuned, alot still running stock intakes, intercoolers, and engine internals even. I would personally have a map tuned to 98 and map tuned to E85, and flash in the map for which fuel I decide to run. The Gull website states it shouldnt be run in most Subarus, assuming this is because it needs to be specifically tuned for? Heard it can eat fuel lines, rubber seals etc, but if many people round the world are running it in their cars with no issues I dont see the problem there, especially with the newer age vehicles. Opinions and thoughts ?
  4. The neutral switch affects the AVCS, it is disabled in neutral, which could cause performance issues. My V8 Sti was having an issue with the power delivery feeling rough, did some datalogging and could see the AVCS dropping out randomly. Tracked it down to the neutral switch faulty. Bypassed it and solved the AVCS issue. Dunno if this is the prob you're having though.
  5. Bought another one from the mount shop, seems to be the same shape/dimensions, so should be all good. Should of mentioned this is the rear one im talking about, the front one is indeed wider (61mm vs 55mm on older ones)
  6. Does anyone know if control arm bushes to suit GC8 Sti will fit V9 stis ?? I realise the suspension changed in the V9s but the control arm bush looks the same as earlier types. Just want to confirm so I can buy some new ones.
  7. Scumbag thieves, no doubt stolen for the parts. Broken grill, sounds like how my V8 Sti was taken. I think the biggest problem alarm installers are making is mounting bonnet pins/switches at front of bonnet. Easy to use a thin piece of metal to hold it down while they break the grill, pop bonnet, and deal to the alarm siren under bonnet. Ive personally mounted my bonnet protection pin in a place thats impossible to get at without triggering it and thus the alarm first. Just thought id point this out as your a car yard and no doubt get alarms fitted to many of your vehicles.
  8. Well, after my Ver8 getting stolen last year, decided it was time to pickup where I left off and some, so scored this V9 Sti
  9. So the house that the vigilante mob turned up to, and gave it a going over, was the right place where the car was discovered in the garage ?? A thread on GPforums suggested they got the wrong place, and the owners said 'boohoo didnt know anything about the car', etc. Good job if it was the right place they got what they deserved !
  10. Good stuff ! Always nice to hear guys going down for the criminal shit they do. Now the only thing is they need a harsh punishment so they dont do it again to some other poor persons pride and joy.
  11. WRC Developments in Napier are also Ecutek agents, they also are the only ones that can tune V5/6 WRX via Ecutek. Have heard good things about them and the tuner has lots of experience, especially on the WRC scene from what Ive heard, hoping to get my Sti down there for a tune sometime.
  12. Gutting it was found stripped, what a waste of the guy and his dads time building it, many hours of hard work completely ruined. I wouldnt feel bad at all for the house it was spotted at being trashed - good bloody job. Still betting if the actual thieves are found they'll get some PD or Home Det. maybe a months jail if theyre lucky(in other words they'll pretty much get away with it and be out stealing someone elses pride and joy in no time)
  13. Most definitely make them earn there keep ! Forgot to add that. Also, whats the big problem with housing them in shipping containers as they were thinking of doing ? Or is that too 'inhumane' ? Pffft what crap. Build dog runs for them to live in is a better bet, and as said chain gangs and hard manual labour. Imagine if they had prisoners out working on roads, that Waikato Expressway job would be done years ahead of schedule !
  14. I can sort of see where Slidesector is coming from. You have to be on the receiving end of a shit crime like burglary or car theft, then watch as the Police catch up with them, and they get put through the courts and come out the other end with a pathetic punishment like Home Detention or PD on the weekend. So I guess the issue is not so much the Police, even though I sometimes think they should get their priorities sorted, but more our weak, pathetic justice system that lets criminal scum get away with this all the time. Needs a massive overhaul IMO, dont see why they cant simply say right, theft of a car - 5 years no parole.
  15. About time some people took the law into their own hands, go stealthily patrol that St lukes mall, catch these thieving bastards in the act, and start breaking bones ! The law/justice system isnt even remotely beginning to sort out these pathetic excuses of human beings.
  16. Feel the pain the owner is going through. Man theft is getting bad, when the bloody hell will this country wake up and put some actual effort into stamping out this shit !!?? Its getting out of control now, even cars chained to garage floors have gone walk about
  17. Interesting as my sti was stolen weekend after the nats last year and I reckon it was cased out there.
  18. Oh fuck that makes me wild ! What a mint and original BC5, and some piece of shit has taken it and probly ruined it now, hope they get caught. Its about time this pathetic justice system in this country had an overhaul, because shit like this is happening far too often and the people responsible never get what should come to them ! But oh no the 4kmh speed limit tolerance is far more important I guess :
  19. Model: 1998 V5 WRX STI RA Mods: Exhaust/wheels/stereo Insurance company: State Price and Type: Full insurance around $25 a week Dealings: -Claimed with state for major crash years ago, no issues. -Claimed with them again last year for my V8 Sti being stolen, no hassles, paid out insured value not market value, as photos of the car showed it in very good condition. -Very good service, no hassles with State, have house and contents with them too, also my P10 Primera daily insured with them too So far would recommend State for insurance, happy with their service, and they haven't shit on me yet haha.
  20. Dont know why people buy expensive, or even inexpensive cars and dont get insurance, seriously ??? Someone once told me, you can never have too much insurance, and I agree. When it costs more than $100 on average to fill most performance cars with gas these days whats $20 or so a week gonna hurt for insuring the thing ? Good luck with getting car back though, I dont wish car theft on anyone, mongrel thieves should have karma bite them in the ass and get whats coming to them, but that rarely happens...
  21. VF38 I think on these ? Either way they are quite small, Steve murch maybe able to modify the factory turbo for more flow, if you wanna simple bolt on upgrade
  22. Cheers, tried repco they only had the pre 98 style leads in stock, ended up getting some top gun ones thru BNT instead for $150
  23. Anyone recommend places to buy a good set of HT leads to suit V5 Sti ? Went to supercheap today and bought the dam expensive bosch ones they had to suit MY98-00, completely wrong wont fit at all, far too short. So Bosch are fail. Any other suggestions on brands and where to purchase for a reasonable price ? Wont even consider repco as they're usually expensive as hell. Cheers
  24. Definately can reflash V5/6 ECUs with ECUtek, as said, at WRC Developments. They quoted me $995 for a tune on my V5, and expect gains of up to 40hp over standard. Also worth keeping in mind is the expertise of the tuner there, he has mapped ECUs for some of the top WRC teams cars in the past, so you know youre getting a top notch tune !
