The mechanic who said the bearing was fine, was saying he thought it was brake rub, but I cant see how you could get brake rub only while turning without having a stuffed bearing...

May just get it replaced anyway, hub hasn\'t been removed yet but will probably do that to save myself some cash

*Sigh*, so the mechanic looked at it today, and says he doesn\'t think there is anything wrong with the bearing. So back to square 1, wtf is causing a squeaking when I turn right, not all the time and only when the wheel is loaded?

Wont be out tonight, gotta nurse the wheel bearing until it gets fixed on Monday

I cant even wiggle the wheel but it is starting to make a squeak when I turn right so hopefully I have caught it early enough

Who would be the best to go to to get the front left wheel bearing replaced in my V7? Still tossing up whether to drop it off somewhere for the whole job or take the hub off and just take that down to have the bearing replaced? Cheers

Now that my car is finally fixed I believe I shall pop along to this one ;D

Ill take my $0.36 at the next meet ;D , We didn\'t touch the up-pipe heat shield but replacing the turbo with one without the stripped stud and replacing the bolt in the pitch stopper has cured the noise and made the car 100% smoother in operation!

So just as an update if anyone is interested: After day 1 : , the turbo is finally out after wrestling with multiple heat shields with bolts hidden in inaccessible locations and an oil drain line that was impossible to reach. we managed to not shear any bolts, however a few nuts were rounded off. I think we found the source of the rattling noise, one of the down pipe studs was missing all of its thread and had no nut, the gasket in that area of the flange showed signs of gas escape. So day 2 will be installation of replacement turbo and with the lessons learned from day 1 it should go much smoother!

What length M10x1.25 do I need?

Does anyone know the specific bolt sizes I need to keep spare in case we do shear something? I would like to grab them before the weekend to avoid any delays

So as an addendum to this, just had my Auto-Electrician flatmate take a look at the wiring for the EBC, half the wires (Throttle Position and both Ground wires) are in the wrong wires on the ECU... will fix this up tomorrow and see if it makes any difference

Ok after more googling apparently this could be caused by the throttle position sensor not working correctly on my ebc, time to get my auto sparky flatmate to earn his dinner methinks

After trolling youtube for similar sounds. This at ~32 seconds before he lets off the throttle is 95% similar to the sound I get. only mine is not all the time and starts as soon as I touch the throttle

No there seems to be no difference in the sound no matter what setting the ebc is in

I have no idea what pressure it runs when I switch the ebc off sorry, I\'m not very good with these kind of things ??? As I say I recorded the sound a few times but it doesn\'t show up on video over the sound of the engine, depsite being very noticeable in cabin

I cycled through setting A, B and off while it was making the noise and it didnt make any difference to the noise at all. Fairly certain it isnt the solenoid, the noise starts before the AVC-R screen shows any solenoid duty and if I listen carefully I can hear the solenoid when it does activate as a separate noise.

i tried to record a video of it with my phone but despite being very obvious when you are in the car it didn\'t show up at all over the engine noise on the video. I went for a long drive today and the noise only showed up 3 times in 1/3 of a tank of fuel, each time lasting for no more than a minute, during that time i can control it entirely with my right foot, as the turbo spools up the sound spools up and vice versa but no loss of performance is noticed.

its mounted to a bracket off the strut tower with a rubber mount between the bracket and the solenoid. The noise is like a tapping/fluttering noise on boost turning into a whine at full boost

Further to this thread: http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic,38818.0.html is there anyone in the welly area over the next 3 days with familiarity with the Apexi AVC-R who could look over/adjust the settings on my v7 sti to make sure that it is running as it should? Not looking for power just to make sure it is safe and maybe to confirm/come closer to confirming that the strange noise I am getting is from the boost controller. I can come to you if need be and can reimburse with food/booze/money etc

Just noticed it has a second setting (setting A and B), the second one seems to be broadly similar except boost is set to 1.0 across the board and more of the other settings have a value rather than "**"
