  1. ...I\'d be a bit sheepish messing with the wastegate adjustment if I were you, but that\'s just me - risk over-speeding your turbo which will eventually cause irreversible turbine damage as it will be pushing it beyond its design rpm/limits. What boost are you getting with it in the normal setting? Any smoke? What are you driving?
  2. Standard tune on mine is not too bad. Run it on 98 RON all the time and only get pinging when engine is heat soaked (in traffic). Car has after-market fujitsubo turbo-back exhaust with equal-length headers which I would imagine would free up a few ponies and help her breathe - so yeah, tune is not too bad. I took 1 degree of timing out of it and it seemed to pull a lot better once the ECU had a chance to sort out the timing as per attachment. Spoke to Stu at Stubaru here in CHC who recommends taking up to 3 degrees of timing out on a standard tune to offset the 100 octane requirement - at least give the ECU some breathing space with regards to the B4 ignition Map and tendancy to ping. Cable is read-only at this stage, but working on a mod to allow it to flash the ECU as per tactrix cable. Here\'s a detailed mod thread from our yankee buddies: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=35844629&postcount=149 Gonna try older ECUFlash version first before trying to modify the VAG-COM unit like this guy has. I tried soldering it with my dud-cable without much luck (solder goes everywhere but the pin I\'m after!) so if you\'re wanting to do the mod - I\'d recommend using glue (epoxy) like this aussie bloke has... http://www.rexnet.com.au/forum/index.php?/topic/148631-vag-com-flashing/ Good luck
  3. Plugged in ELM327 Wifi dongle thingy and started car - Cant read ECU parameters with it (because of the ELM chip) but it can still read and clear CEL codes using iPad!!
  4. ***EDIT => Link to part - http://www.worldcarparts.co.uk/Store/tabid/667/txtPartSearch/22641AA042/List/1/productid/7066/Default.aspx +1 Worked on my 2001 JDM B4 (EJ208 BE5) Denso Part number on box that came from UK was DOX0306 (22641AA042) Direct fit for 22641AA090 that came off my manifold. Only changes were I had to move a couple of the plastic clips that keep the wire attached to timing cover to match the ones that came off the old sensor. Otherwise worked perfectly! Thanks for the info dude - saved me heaps!! ;D
  5. Fitted new Denso Oxygen Sensor to my 2001 JDM B4 - no more CEL ;D Part number from Subaru: 22641AA090 Part number that also works (Impreza part number): 22641AA042 (Denso DOX0306) Cost me $170 shipped to my door vs $600 from the dealer Winning
  6. Cable I got from ebay - $8.50 USD for shipping and $0.99 US for the cable itself. Comes with its own CD but mine was blank - not to worry - windows vista found the cable when I plugged it in. I did a google search online and got updated drivers for it. Only thing you have to do is once it\'s installed, go to the "System" menu and under \'device manager\', look under \'serial device\' (from memory) to locate the cable driver, then change the COM PORT to something that the software you are using can recognize (I used COM 1). Also, when using a USB port, make sure you plug it in to the same one each time once you\'ve configured it or windows does some wierd stuff and you have to go in each time and change the port again. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/320657268202?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649 Once she\'s all set up, FreeSSM and ROMRAIDER will work for logging. "Learning View" is very good as well, for logging ECU adjustments in response to knock and to track it\'s progress when ECU has been reset (IAM). - little side note - bought an ELM327 OBD2 wifi interface which plugs into the OBDII connector allowing you to use your iphone or ipad - it\'s only good for reading stored CEL codes, but doesnt like the Subaru SSM protocol so can\'t view other paramaters (i.e. AFR/RPM etc). Read up a bit online and apparently its something to do with the chip in the dongle... Wire works fine with the PC tho. **EDIT** Some pics of my logs: ROMRAIDER Dashboard with VAG-COM and Windows Vista Run 2: Learning view:
  7. Hi Guys, Yes. My experimenting thus far has been limited to read-only. Tried ECUflash (latest version) and my cable was unable to read my ECU map. I didn\'t \'jumper\' the flash block at the time, however I have read online that an older ECUflash version has, in the past, worked with the Vag-com cable. I\'m a little hopeful that I will be able to read/write to the ECU with the right tinkering because the FreeSSM software is able to tweak timing and idle settings with the Vag-Com. When I get new cable and try again, will let you know if it works
  8. Gidday Gareth, If you\'re keen on logging, you can get an Audi/VW VAG-COM cable online that plugs into your laptop which will work with romraider and Subaru FreeSSM software to log. Was mucking around with my B4 last week, doing a few log runs (CHC) to check out the state of tune of my car. Works well - cable stopped working cos I stepped on it while moving laptop - ordered 2 more online ( one spare). If you\'re interested, can pm you details and some screen shots.
  9. Interesting....got me thinking now...my rev-D does have the T junction so am wondering if engine was a swap out from an earlier version....turbos and injectors are Rev-D spec and ECU is rev-D (A4SH701H -JDM B4) so can\'t imagine why it would be retro-fitted... Back to topic tho, now that I can tweak the idle with FreeSSM (http://developer.berlios.de/projects/freessm/) I might try the mod, adjust idle with software and log ECU for any variations to knock \'patterns\' using romraider....
  10. I concur - Tried this mod - it alters the low-end boost characteristics which is good for a bit of a kick in the pants (more boost) but you are flirting with danger (esp. EJ208 with high compression) bringing more of a boost surge at lower RPMs with an engine designed for 100 Octane fuel (JDM Models) = pinging and big end problems...proceed with caution!
  11. Did you find any frayed/damaged wiring on the old O2 sensor? Short Circuit will blow the fuse from what I can gather.
  12. Thanks guys. Had a look at a few forums as well as this one - seems people have been successful with the AA090/AA042 interchangeability so I\'m hoping they are compatible! will keep you posted...
  13. Just ordered the Impreza part number 22641AA042 AFR sensor from http://www.worldcarparts.co.uk/ for my BE5 RSK B4 Legacy Rev-D. Cheers for the info - Armstrong quoted me $501 on special versus the $140 USD delivered (about 170ish NZD) from the UK. Will let you know if it works!
  14. Downloaded FreeSSM v1.2.5 and tried with new VAG-COM cable. After adjusting COM Port to 1, software works flawlessly. Can clear fault codes, adjust idle (with A/C on or off) and bias ignition timing. Anyone know what sort of timing adjustment will work for a 100 octane-RSK B4 to run on the "Awesome" 98 we sell in NZ without pinging?
  15. Got OBD2 VAG-COM Audi Cable in the mail. Installed internet drivers on Sony laptop, downloaded Romraider and plugged it all in.....and it WORKS! - able to log data from ECU - can\'t believe how much data the ECU is watching....everything from intake air temp/pressure, fuel pump duty cycle, RPM (as expected) , power steering switch, brake switch, even down to the bloody window defogger! Also recieved the ELM 327 Wifi OBD2 interface...gonna try the ipad app now.... Best part of the VAG-COM is the cool blue led... ;D link to NASIOC \'how-to\' for Virtual Dyno/ECU Logging: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2108996
  16. Hey man, will let you know when I get them. Could take a while to get here from HK/China
  17. Saw that they offer an app on the iPad that can read OBD-2 codes and clear CEL. Also has a few cool other live inputs to Laptop/iPhone/iPad via WiFi. Ordered a couple of OBD2 toys online... http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e12052.m43.l1123/7?euid=3ce7cff0a9e3497b883e1f708d43362a&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com.au%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D160866304471%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AX%3AeRTM%3AAU%3A1123 WiFi (not Bluetooth) ELM327 Adaptor for OBD-2 including CAN support (whatever that is!) Cable to try with SSM software (edit) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320657268202#ht_5260wt_1163 SSM Software: http://superb-dca3.dl.sourceforge.net/project/freessm.berlios/FreeSSM-1.2.5-windows-qt4-installer.exe
  18. Had a look under hood - thinking parallel fuel rail project...then CBF... Bonus tho: checked out injectors with torch : Pink (STi 550\'s 525cc??) injectors fitted to my B4.... Thinking about finding some Avgas to test their potential.... ;D
  19. Went in to see stu at Stubaru to run CEL diagnosis... Heater element on per-cat O2 sensor burnt out... They want $501 (plus tax) for a Subaru sensor....FML :-X Strong for Subaru in AKL want $287.50 including tax. Anyone know where I can get a B4 Rev-D BE5 (EJ208) front O2 sensor in CHC? Subaru part number 22641AA090 Cheers
  20. Thanks Stoffa - was just going to adjust to remove the play at full travel - short term fix til I can replace bushes.
  21. Where do you find upper engine cleaner and how much?
  22. Hi Guys, Was working on brakes today and noticed my rear sway bar hasn\'t got much tension in it. Unit is adjustable (threaded and locking sway bar links) so I was going to tighten it up a bit to see how she handles. I noticed most of the Whiteline bars have \'holes\' in them to adjust the arm length for \'stiffer\' or \'lighter\' response from the Swaybar under cornering. Anyone experimented with this kind of link on a B4 before? I understand if I add more tension, it will decrease roll tendancy or \'stiffen\' the rear end in corners. Anyone had any oversteer stories with too much tension? rear swaybar: bracing: (Notice the adjuster on the sway bar link) Front "K" Brace: Lower Control arms After-Market Fujitsubo Exhaust Wrapped Headers: All car mods were done in Japan - anyone recognize any of the hardware from the (somewhat grainy) pics? Thanks for the input
  23. Hey all - Replaced rear brakes on my B4 with Bendix pads from Supercheap. Flushed out old brown brake fluid and replaced with DOT 4 green fluid from same shop. Went screaming around suburbia trying to bed the pads in peak hour!!! - Front pads tomorrow....
