  1. Haven\'t been for a proper drive with them yet but pretty happy so far Had a friend from work help me to install which helped a lot, but having done it now I\'d say it\'s reasonably easy; just time consuming and not something I\'d repeat in a hurry. Trickiest bit is getting the bottom of the rear shocks to line up for the bolt to go in cos of the way the rest of the assembly wants to move. The rest is fairly straight forward. So what\'s the difference with your new ones to your existing if they have regular springs? You have a SpecB yea? Yeah mines Spec.B, but being 2003 they are the hardest riding set out of them all. Put some Rev. B Bilstein front struts on last night. I suspected the Rev. A ones were on the way out, they were making some knocking noises and didn\'t rebound properly which made it a pretty harsh ride (even harsher than it should be). So got the new set in late last night, gave it a quick drive and yep the old ones were definitely poked. The front sits a wee bit higher now, but should settle. A wee bit more body roll than the stock set, but the old ones were really only good on completely smooth roads, so these are a great improvement. Will get the rears on later in the week to finish it off Glad to hear yours are doing well.
  2. one of my mates bought one of the Mk.V 32\'s, as soon as that exhaust flap opens up it sounds amazingly raw. My last car was a Mk.IV GTI, great car but had some serious envy for those R32 bumpers and Konig seats, they look amazing.
  3. what do you think of them? Pretty easy to install? I ended up getting a set from gotasuby, probably the same struts as you have (but with regular springs). Was hoping to have time to install them over the weekend but didn\'t in the end.
  4. Took a video while out to get groceries Taken with a Nexus 4, which doesn\'t capture much of the deep note of the exhaust, so use your imagination.
  5. Genomes arrived this morning, took them out of the bubblewrap and inspected the level of polish and very impressed. Was going to get some autosol on the way home but no need they are pretty much as new except for some scraping on the bottom. Anyway, I got impatient, had a meeting at work then immediately drove home to install them in the drive. Very happy with the results, bit of a pain to get in the hangers but got them all bolted up and they sound great. Almost no extra noise at idle, and eliminate any raspiness the stock mufflers were creating, instead just a nice deep tone which just gets angry over 4k. Will put some pics up in the weekend and hopefully get a sound clip too.
  6. V7 seats and up will fit won\'t they? Do you have airbag seats? I wasn\'t sure whether the pre-facelift\'s had airbags, I can\'t see \'srs-airbag\' on my seats so thought maybe the early ones don\'t have airbags anyway, which means you avoid problems getting a airbag light and failing WOF because of it.
  7. I\'d definitely stay away from the A8 for the reasons you mention. Great cars when new but they depreciate so fast, I\'m guessing because you\'re trading body parts for car parts when it needs repairing One thing that suprised me with the B6 Audi A4/S4 is the lack of space, I\'m tall and when adjusting the front seat for myself there\'s barely enough room for legs in the back seat. I\'d stay way from the 2007 WRX, of course you may like it because it\'s a bit softer for the daily commute, but it has the underpowered 2.0L twin scroll compared to the 2.5L Single Scroll in the 2010+ WRX\'s, which also has the wide body styling of the STI\'s. I love my 2003 Legacy GT, has loads of torque down low and with a downpipe + tune it\'s even better. It\'s worth trying to find a 2.5L Single Scroll turbo of these and giving it a try, I think here the 2009\'s may be 2.5L but not quite sure, has the boxer rumble which the twin scroll ones lack, but on the other hand seem to have more issues with banjo bolt filters and other engine failures.
  8. ended up getting a set of sti genomes for $300. should arrive early next week so keen to get them on to see what they\'re like. If you\'re still looking in 5 weeks Ultrex in Aus should have some of their mufflers in stock, it\'ll be less than $600 shipped to NZ for a brand new item, so worth a look.
  9. 2004 should be an EJ20X or EJ20Y depending on transmission, I wasn\'t aware of any BP/BL\'s which had the EJ207, but I may be wrong.
  10. I did have overspooling issues on mine when I went with the downpipe, but that was down to a split wastegate actuator vac hose causing the wastegate to not open properly, if you did get overspooling that\'s probably a good place to look first.
  11. if you go for single exit I\'d be keen to see your results I\'ve read from the American guys that the twin pipes just helps resonate a bit more so technically you\'d be fine getting it converted to a single, might just be noisier.
  12. Best thing to do is the downpipe, it\'s the most restrictive part of the exhaust, and Subtech in Auckland make a catless piece which gives very good gains. In terms of power that\'s the only thing that\'s going to change dramatically, you may get a bit more out of replacing the Y pipe, but I think it\'s minor compared to the DP. I\'ve currently got this setup on my 2003 wagon, it\'s definitely helped, just make sure you get a tune as mine was running very rich as soon as I installed it so needed a tune to get the AFR\'s back to normal. I\'m currently looking into some mufflers to get a bit more noise out of this setup, just the downpipe makes the exhaust note very raspy, so i had a resonator installed which helped quiet it down but I still wanted a bit more of a growl so going to get some Ultrex mufflers to finish it all off. X-Force also do a catback which you can get from Redline Performance (have a look on trademe), so along with a downpipe this should finish it off nicely.
  13. Cheers KiwiJoe, if you ever pop into one of the meets I\'d be keen to have a listen. Well that set on trademe ended up going for $465, someone really wanted them. Probably going to end up buying a set of Ultrex mufflers when they\'re back in stock, I\'ll have to post a vid of them when I get them.
  14. yeah you need to connect the two wires in the passenger foot well, it\'s a pain in the arse to unplug them but after you do it a couple of times you get the hang of it. It will be a green plug and socket, and don\'t think the car will start with them plugged in.
  15. Other than the OBD2 port being a pain in the arse to access and the short cable I had, I didn\'t have any other issues. Once I got the drivers setup with the old version of ecuFlash it never gave me troubles. Stupid question but did they have the car in test mode with all the fans and crap going on and off? On the newer cars with CANBus I don\'t believe the car needed to be in test mode to read/flash, though if they did manage to read a map then there goes that theory.
  16. Well they look quite good on DacerX\'s sedan, they didn\'t poke out or look out of place. I have seen some with them on which did look ridiculous, maybe mismatching wagon mufflers on sedan? To each their own I guess, Would be nice to get quad tips, but twice the price over other options is a bit steep when I haven\'t even accounted for shipping.
  17. Found these: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/subaru/accessories/auction-647095387.htm anyone know whether they\'d fit a wagon? Would they poke out a bit more or need extending?
  18. I assume would sound something like this probably the best example I could find of them.
  19. DacerX\'s car sounds nice with it, it would definitely do the trick. It is a 3.0 though so be interesting to hear it on a GT. Just playing the waiting game for one on trademe or otherwise.
  20. sweet I\'ll come by on thursday and check it out.
  21. I\'m in CHCH, if anyone has the time to let me be passenger round the block I\'d be keen I do like the look of the genome\'s, and almost pulled the trigger on some before I got the downpipe, but none have popped up on trademe in the last few months.
  22. even on a BP/BL? I\'ve not heard the sti\'s in person, so can only go from what I see on youtube, so was leaning towards other options. I\'ve already got a subtech downpipe in as well as a resonator before the centre pipe, so at the moment it sounds a little bit louder than stock, but keen for just a wee bit more noise from the muffler.
  23. Am looking for a set of aftermarket mufflers for my BP5 GT wagon. I can\'t really find many options in NZ without going custom and was wondering what others have done to theirs. At this stage I\'m waiting for a set of Ultrex mufflers from Aus to come back in stock, they\'re $310AU plus a bunch for shipping, the other bolt on options I see are TCP quad tips which go for $650AU plus shipping. I do see STI genome mufflers pop up on trademe every now and then, but from the sounds of it they have quite a raspy hollow sound to them which I\'m not keen on. Has anyone gone for custom mufflers locally? if so how much did they cost all up and did they bolt on at the Y pipe or welded in?
  24. yeah 10km on trip computer. I ran with the stock tune for about a week before getting the first base map on the car, it ran ok but was really rich with the downpipe so pretty much could smell fuel all the time, this was fixed within a few revisions. Supposedly it\'s safe enough with these cars, but yeah you\'ll be running way too rich so best getting a tune with that downpipe. I just got my cable from ebay, it was a cheap vagcom cable, but worked ok, you just have to make sure you get one with the FTDI chipset, the others won\'t get you anywhere. yeah did a log of 2nd gear 2k rpm to redline, same in 3rd gear sent it through and got an updated revision each time. No worries, am happy to help. As I said it was a bit of work, i\'m sure you could get quicker results from someone in Aus or even get it tuned on the dyno locally, but I\'m pretty happy with the results I got on mine, and feel very comfortable that the car is running better than it was before.
  25. it\'s hard to say, as I didn\'t really pay too much attention to fuel economy and never really took a snapshot of a tank before/after to see the difference. Mine does sit about 10km/L if that\'s any help, which is mostly my city commute and weekend driving around the city. The cost was $150US all up, but that didn\'t include the cost for heading to the track each time, I probably went about 6-7 times to the track, so wasn\'t too much in the end. The process is quite fun once you get started, you can see the changes made to the ecu by comparing old vs new in romraider, so you can see where gains and smoothness are made and how such small changes to various parameters can affect the drivability of the car. At 1.25 bar I find that I rarely hit that during my regular driving, because of the improvements to the low end torque the car is much more enjoyable to drive under the boost curve than before, but that all depends how you drive. Thing is once it\'s tuned you should be knocking way less than before on the factory tune, so it\'s probably safer giving it the beans then it was before.
