  1. subieboy - Yes, the packaging states its for an N15 Pulsar. Thanks. boostcut - No, the temp gauge sits just above half and has never been over that. A girl wanted to buy it so I took it for a mech. check. The mech. said it was running to hot for optimal winter temps. When I questioned this, he mentioned he had it running for 5 mins and the fans never went off. I then tested this and found he was right so thought I'd start with the easiest part 1st. GNEDEF - After fitting the new thermo. etc I started the car, let the temp gauge get to half way, checked the hoses etc and bottom was hot. The fans never came on, so I took it for a drive up the road and all seemed fine. I got back and the fans were on, so I left it running for about 10mins and they were still going non-stop. ??? boostin - You've got me worried now... I'll let you all know whether or not I make the 40km drive to work tomo morning ;D
  2. Yeah, I'm not sure of the part number... ;D I've done the swap, gave it time for the sealant to dry and have just taken it for a drive. Unfortunately, once the fans come on, they stay on... Back to the drawing board :
  3. Hey guys, I'm in the process of changing the thermostat on my N15 Pulsar and I've got to the stage where I can fit the new one (which I got from Repco) but its visually different to the old one... I'm not a mechanic, so I learn as I go. Can anyone tell me if the new thermostat will work fine...? Thanks. The old one has this little release valve thing too... ???
  4. A couple of pics from my Version 3 STI RA. Gearbox Code - TY752VB5CA Mine has an Open Front Diff. DCCD Centre Diff: You can tell the STI RA gearbox by the wire coming out of the top of the gearbox (plate / cover) on the left in the 1st picture below.
  5. I've got a bit more info now, so thought I'd share - for if this comes up later on... : An interesting link with Subaru parts installation manuals... http://www.wrxtra.com/catalog/documentation.php Gauge fitment instructions along with sensor guide and wiring diagram. http://www.subaruparts.com/guides/H5010FE051-US4_alt.pdf
  6. Yeah, I was surprised to see a set of these come up. Ended up winning them for $101, so not too bad. No, unfortunately I didn't get the oil temp sender... :'( But I'm hoping my mechanic can help me out with that one I'll keep this post updated.
  7. Hey guys, I just bought these Lamco Gauges off Trademe and want to fit them, but would like to see a wiring diagram or pics of the wires if any one's fitted these gauges before as the existing wiring looks a little dodgy and I'd like to re-do them myself to make sure they're correct...
  8. Yes, the newer shaped bonnet will bolt straight on no problem. The big air scoops come out on Version 8 STI's.
  9. I will never go to Smith N Smith again...! I took my car there for a simple windscreen replacement and ended up having to go back 4 times! What a waste of time! At one point a service technician came to my workplace to repair a leak (after they had fitted a new screen) his solution was to use a piece duct tape which he stuck along the length of the top of my screen! I immediately took pictures and sent them to the boss who was fairly helpful, but I still had to go back twice after this incident and my car now fills up with water every time it rains! Luckily the screen is cracked again so I need a new one. Needless to say I will not go to Smith N Smith!
  10. Woah Bazza-NZ...! Is your car still running... ???
  11. I agree, they should be changed every service. I had only replaced my stock plugs washer once and it never leaked, so thought I'd continue Here's a pic of the plug from the service before. I usually service my car every 5 000km's, but this service was done after 7 000km's.
  12. Its on in the 1st pic mate, I've just never actually replaced the washer... Just re-used it twice.
  13. liquid_ice I recon you haven't broken an axle yet, coz that vid is what I'd consider taking it easy... Na, that's pretty wicked! What sort of power you putting out ??? Did the CV's break when your shocks were worn or did you sheer axle shafts in half... ??? My mates REX has a fair amount of power, its fully forged with 440cc injectors, Version 3 heads and a TD05 as well a few other little bolt on parts. driftrex My mate's had two R160's now and they start off well, but always leads to single spinnin. Maybe this is why the axles snap... ???
  14. I have one of the magnetic plugs on mine and every time I jack the car up, I notice a drop of oil coming from it. I never had this problem with the stock plug, so will be changing back in 5 000 km's time. Here's a close up pic of what the plug looks like once removed. There is a sludgy substance which looks grey when wiped so I guess it could be metal particles / shavings ???
  15. I'd interested to hear how the R180 holds up as a mate of mine has a RWD WRX (with a forged motor) but it still has the R160 which tends to single spin at times and breaks axles almost every time its driven! Admittedly, its not driven lightly at all...! Oh the joys of a "drift hack" I'm tempted to get another box and rwd mine for a while too... Just don't really want to break my R180. I think I'll try get a spare one along with a set of axles before another box goes in... ???

    Braces

I think we all need these...! ;D
  17. I fitted these shocks yesterday and I ran into a couple of small problems, nothing serious... The front brake line brackets do not fit... I'm guessing because my set are Version 7 shocks... ??? I had to cable tie them in temporarily. I will be making brackets up today so I can bolt them in place... The rears were pretty hard to fit - seemed like they were too long... ??? I managed to get them in, but my car now site 3 fingers off the tires! ha ha... I'm ordering a set of Tein lowering springs today. Hopefully they sit low enough to look good as well as handle well... After cleaning my hub carriers for a while I noticed a bit of blue... Wonder if this is normal...? Guess they must be.
  18. nt_a_foz - Ah... Great thanks, they better fit! boostin - You've been a great help! Thanks again. That link is very helpful and is exactly what I was hoping for (when starting this thread).
  19. loren - Ay... I'm from Africa so these things are new to me... ;D Thanks by the way. Now I won't sound like a newbie in front of my mechanic tomo... boostin - Thanks mate, appreciate you letting me know that. So I can just throw a set of springs (rubber bushes etc...) on and bolt the top hats straight on...? I've just taken an old set of shocks apart to see. Seems the only parts I need now are the rubber bushes at the bottom of the springs as my old shocks are different. Nothing major, I'll see what I can find tomo...
  20. Hey guys, I bought these shocks off Trademe. Just drove up to AKL to collect them on Sat. What model do these shocks come in or are they optional...? I've never seen shocks so thick, they're roughly 40mm thick (will confirm with a vernier tomorrow)! Wander if the threaded rod welded to the top is standard or if they've been modified... ??? I was just wandering if anyone has these fitted, whats the ride like...? Oh and does anyone know where I can get a set of bump stops...? :-\
  21. I had the same problem a couple of months after I bought my car. Luckily there was no interference...! Mine did it because the belt had been replaced, but not the tensioner or the water pump! Water pump had been leaking for quite a while and was rather corroded! So a big thanks to the previous owner.... :
  22. Well said, :D Who knows... ??? Maybe one day I will update this thread when I get my Apexi ECU fitted and tuned on another dyno and I wonder why my car is only making just over 200 after that.
  23. Na mate, because on the right hand side of the dyno sheet, it shown kw atw. When you click on the link to the dyno sheet, click on full size below the picture to the right. This could have be a logical explanation though, thanks for your comment.
  24. Thats great, thanks a hell of a lot... Finally someone sharing some power figures...! My dyno sheet must be wrong then, after all, every Subaru that came from Japan is exactly the same right...!
