  1. Hmm interesting. Seems rather advanced, would rather not risk doing something wrong .. I\'ve emailed Ray Hartly (Wellingtonians should know who he is) to organise him resetting my ECU and giving advice on road tuning it afterwards on strictly 98 ocatne fuel. I also read after the reset of a Subaru ECU, to give the car hell for 100 or so k\'s for an effective road tune? Any truth to this? Like I say with my Toyota, with every change I disconnect the battery, sleep then done by morning! Good thing I checked with my Legacy else I would have just done the same again!
  2. Hmmm. Never thought of that. Replacing just the last section (rear differential-back) won\'t have this effect, would it?
  3. How do I go about this? Can\'t find any information specific to my model wagon. In my Toyota I just simply disconnect battery, go to sleep and done!
  4. That\'s interesting. Say for example I change gear too early and put load on the car mine does make a rather interesting noise .. My initial thought was under full load. Did not think this noise was pinging. Ocatane boost? Yay or nay?
  5. Back on topic, anyone experienced this before?
  6. I did an oil change with Penrite Synthetic 5W40 when I first got the car. Always good to get others opinions. The search function in this forum isn\'t the greatest when looking for things like who uses what oil and why. Or do 2 worded searches not work well?
  7. I honestly can\'t, it\'s really not loud enough. I only know it\'s there because I went looking for a sound and found one lol .. Mine is smooth as silk like yours. Runs absolutely mint. Out of curiosity, what oil and rating do you run in you\'rs?
  8. 133 thou k\'s. I\'ts nowhere near jet plane sounding. It\'s just a slight whistle or whine if you will on the downspool when it\'s cold (giving her little revs). Sound is basically non-existent after driving for a bit if I pull over and get in the engine bay and listen for it. Seems quite common to have a little noise on a cold start after doing some research on the net. Just wondering if anyone here has experienced it before. The first Legacy I test drove when I was in the market for mine sounded like a jet plane from one of the turbo chargers. I then had to pretend I was still interested in the car and do a full inspection just not to be rude. :-\
  9. Hi there gents, well here goes my first Subaru owning querrie. Thought I\'d see what my engine sounded like starting cold today in the engine bay. Starts fine, give it a little rev, notice a wee whine or whistle noise on the spool down (letting the revs return to idle, not turning the car off). Stand for for a bit and it continues, every time I give a little rev, a whistle or whine noise on the spool down. SO, I go for a drive, get the car at temp and come home. Do the same again and the noise is gone. I struggle to hear anything .. Should I be concerned? Not having owned a turbo charged vehicle before, it\'s fair to say I\'m over cautious with this sort of thing. I do however have a couple of theories. 1) A small boost leak, when the car warms up the metal expands and seals the leak (but do leaks make a noise on the spool down?). 2) The whistle is the turbo(s) bearings are just taking their time to get fully lubricated before the tolerances become normal. Car is factory standard everything btw. 2001 E-Tune Legacy. Anyone hexperienced this before? Thanks!
  10. Where are you located Jost? Yeah turns out on other sites the clear lights are quite sought after .. I\'m sure they would look better on a darker colour wagon not white or silver like mine ..
  11. That\'s my one I just bought it. I\'m removing the eye lids also if anyone is keen. I\'m in 2 minds also whether I like the blue interior over the black usual set. I got it at a better price than he has listed.
  12. Sorted. Thanks again gents. Oh and Marky PM if you want a swap lol.
  13. Haha, yeah we can meet and swap if ya\' like. Although they need to be good no water leaks or damage lol .. Guessing from that response they are a straight swap.
  14. Any car theft is upsetting/gut wrenching to read about. Really feel for the owner in every case. Hoping for the best outcome as always.
  15. Howdy lads. Managed to finally get my hands on a decent BH legacy for a good price. However, it has these tail lights .. I think they are factory STI lights? Correction? However, not my cup of tea. Will these standard sets bolt on as a simple replacement? Being a Toyota guy my entire life and always will be , everything bolts onto everything. 8) Just double checking this. Cheers. ;D
  16. 8) 8) Like I say I\'ve organised a Mr. Subaru to take a geeze at it, see if he can quickly diagnose the issue for me. Even so, I won\'t be buying the car with known issues so hoping the guy is negotiable with this sort of thing. Claims to have run on 95 or 98 if possible always since it was brought into the country. Will soon hopefully find out. Thanks gents for the advice. :-* :-*
  17. I\'m going for a second opinion on it. I agree - why would someone present a car worth 7k with a check engine light on .. It\'s beyond me .. Trying to organise someone I know from Diesel and Turbo to have a geeze at it, also have a Subaru mechanic in the know that can look at it. TBH it does sound like a tinny \'pinging\' sound .. Personally I\'ve never come across such sound, ever .. Owner thinks it\'s just one of the \'turbo\'s winding up .. \' Oooo k. Quite hard to come across a manual twin turbo charged wagon these days with low k\'s and actually worth something as why I\'m genuinely interested in the car.
  18. Owner says always run on 95 or 98 if possible. See I understand what you are telling me, but if that\'s the case, why can I not hear the noise in the engine bay? Another explanation I thought of is a grommet is missing from the firewall .. Is it possible it\'s just normal engine operating noise coming through the firewall into the cabin? Another thing for me to investigate. Although the owner is dead certain the engine management light is due to the O2 sensor, nothing else according to his mechanic who diagnosed the problem.
  19. Basically I\'m about to purchase a Legacy that I\'ve been in the market for, only thing I want sorted is the check engine light is on. Owner reckons his mechanic tells him the O2 sensor needs replacing. I\'m in two minds over this info .. I accept that this can cause the check engine light to trigger, BUT, there is a strange ticking noise coming from the engine I think .. Trying to explain here. When we accelerate, it\'s like a light ticking coming from what sounds like behind the dash on the drivers side, but you cannot hear it in the engine bay .. No strange noises coming from the engine bay when revving, both turbo chargers sounds perfect, no engine knocking, nothing. You only hear it when inside driving. I\'m thinking there is more than just the O2 sensor here .. Knock sensor dramas? Possible pinking (I\'ve never heard of pinking, my father owns a workshop this is what he reckons it could be)? Any other explanations? Some info on the car: 2001 Legacy Wagon E-Tune 131,000 k\'s Serviced every 10,000 k\'s since imported according to owner Manual No aftermarket pieces whatsoever Any info from you guys is much appreciated.
