  1. Yep, BOV and gasket just replaced. It doesnt help that we are trying to sell it... need a bigger wagon for the upcoming arrival of our first baby
  2. Thanks for the replies. I think it'll be easier to keep an eye out on trademe etc. for a forester or WRX I/C. I really can't be bothered messing around taking it somewhere to be welded etc... call me lazy but I'm fed up with this car.
  3. Howdy, I've got a 04 SG5 cross sports forester with a leaking intercooler. I've had it pressure tested by a local mechanic and he confirmed there is a leak. You can hear it when on boost, it sounds like a faint high pitch whistle. What options do I have for a direct replacement? Will a WRX I/C fit? The current I/C has an aftermarket recirc BOV attached to it, so this will also need to bolt up to the new I/C. Would it just be easier to try and source another forester I/C? The car is completely standard so there is no need for an STI I/C replacement etc. I'm not wanting to spend a lot of $$, this thing has cost me a fortune over the last couple of months. Thanks, Scott
  4. Def does the full sweep when the ignition is turned on, it goes all the around to 2 bar then returns, my memory escapes me as to where it returns to. Does anyone have an accurate wiring diagram for them? The instructions that came with it are rubbish.
  5. From memory when doing this it returned to + 0.5 bar Back to the install manual I go then....
  6. So I bought a new Apexi EL electronic boost gauge off TM and put it in last night... either I have cocked up or the gauge is faulty... It is reading about 0.5 - 0.7 bar to high. At idle the needing is sitting just under 0 and then at full boost it is about 1.5 bar....? The only thing I didn\'t install is the little air filter thing that sits in the same vacuum line that heads off to the pressure sensor. Thoughts? Buggered gauge, or stupid installer?

    SG5 Turbo

Hi all, I\'m looking at replacing the TD04 turbo on my SG5 cross sport in the next month or so. Its making some weird noises when coming on boost, seems down in power etc. Stubaru in CHCH has had a look at it and thinks the internals might need some \'freshening\' up.... bugger that for the price he said it would cost. A TD04 can be had for a couple of hundy. I\'ve got a boost gauge on its way to see what it is actually chucking out for pressure. I suspect it is way down on boost. There are no boost leaks etc. I\'ll try and go for a drive this weekend with the gopro and post the video so you guys can hear the noises etc. and see what you think might be causing the issue. The only other thing I can think of is an issue with the up pipe or down pipe. One question I have though... is the TD04 my only option, is there a similar VF series turbo I can use without any (or few) mods? I\'m not wanting to change injectors, fuel pump etc... Also, are all TD04s the same? Should I be looking at a certain model or off a certain vehicle? Thanks, Scott
  8. Excuse my ignorance... \'Strongs\'?
  9. Hi, I\'ve just had my SG5 cross sport serviced by Stubaru here in CHCH and he has recommended to take the car to a subaru dealer and get the ECU remapped to work correctly with NZ fuels? The car has a bit of a hesitation issue when coming on boost which he seems to think the remap will help. We\'ve had a similar thing done on our Mazda 6 wagon as apart of a routine service by Mazda. It made quite a bit of difference. Has anyone done anything similar to a Subaru? Thanks, Scott
  10. Hi all, I want to get a boost gauge for my SG5 cross sport forester to keep an eye on what the turbo is doing (I don\'t think it is producing the boost it should). It has been years since I\'ve purchased one - what are the current make/models to look out for? I don\'t want to speed a lot of money, all I want is a reliable and good looking gauge. Thanks, Scott

    Issues

Thanks for the replies.. It turned out to be a AFM issue. Seems sorted now, car is a lot smoother at idle and on power delivery.

    Issues

Howdy all, I\'ve got an issue that I wouldn\'t mind your expert theories on. I\'ve got a \'04 SG5 turbo cross sport that has developed some serious hesitation and surging when coming on boost and times where it feels as though there is not boost at all. It\'s not throwing any fault codes, nor is it blowing any smoke. I\'ve had my brother in law (mechanic) look at it and his opinion was one or all of AFM, worn plugs or an issue with the coils. I\'ve only owned the car for 6 weeks and it\'ll be going back to yard for investigation, I\'m just cautious of them giving me the run around. The car has done 120kms so it\'s at the stage where things are going to begin wearing out. I\'m hoping for an easy (and cheap) fix. Any thoughts? Scott.
  13. Hi All, Does any one know where I might find some forester SG5 skirt end cap / splash guard things? I\'m after the same as pictured below. Thanks, Scott
  14. Was it done by a professional tuner? I get very nervous when thinking about ECU changes etc... the last thing I need is a blown motor. I put a load of sea foam through the car this weekend, it has made the idle a lot smoother and revs a lot better. I suspect the factory boost curve is rather \'disappointing\'. It seems to have a lot of pull down low but fades away with the revs climbing - I need to put a boost gauge in to see what exactly it is doing.
  15. I\'m not that keen on trying the ECU remap/flash myself. I\'d find a way to royally mess things up. Are there any preferred places here in CHCH that do it? Or is there a pro on here that does cashies? It\'d be nice to squeeze a bit more HP out of the car, goes OK in stock form but nothing to get excited about.
