  1. Hey guys, Someone managed to back into my front bumper this morning (C-west, money, yay ) but seeing as they should be paying for it I don't mind so much. Is anyone able to recommend a place I take it to get re-fiberglassed and painted etc? Preferably porirua, but if they're all dropkicks around here I'm willing to have it done further out. Cheers in advance
  2. So I've found some 4-pots for relatively cheap and am thinking of taking the plunge, but before I do I was wondering if I need to get them certed if I change them over? Cheers
  3. I'll have to remember to take a picture of the average-looking galant with 'snowflake' chromes next time I'm at the gym :
  4. Yeah that thing is hawt. They just leave it parked there most of the time too, suprised nobody's made off with it to be honest
  5. Yeah can't really see in the pic. But if you see that giant blackish lump in front of the windscreen, that's the turbo. and the smoke coming from the enginebay and wafting away, that's the wastegate or exhaust venting straight up. Some people are so fail.
  6. I saw the worst goddamn thing ever yesterday. Was what appeared to be an r33 skyline, about 2cm off the ground, no bonnet, the turbo was ABOVE where the bonnet would have been with an airfilter strapped on to it, and then the exhaust / wastegate exhaust running out a J-pipe...straight up...above the engine...2 metres off the ground. and the peice de resistance was the damned exhaust thing had a hinged cap on top...like some smokestacks have...so everytime he blipped the throttle it went CLANG. WHAT THE HELL. I was praying for a cop to drive by, but no. I took a camera phone pic, pretty bad quality but I'll chuck it up if it's possible to see anything in it.
  7. Was it this? Run awaaaay. But punch the guy in the nads first
  8. Wonder if the tax dept knows about him being a small time car dealer
  9. This guy wasnt the driver... just the acting sergeant who had to attend the crash and investigate. If you re-read my post you'll see that I didn't say anything to the effect of that guy being responsible, it was just a captionless picture of a cop car that had ran a red light into someone. Not, of course, that it would either way be at all relevant to the discussion at hand.
  10. I'd prefer they worked out how to do it safely first. Unlike this guy and this guy and this guy and this guy and this guy and this guy. All of those links involved a police officer being at fault, most of them did not involve active pursuits, and only one I beleive wasn't in the last 12 months. That's just what I've found in 5 minutes, and just what has been reported by the media. Imagine how many more have happened in that time frame... Be interesting to see if the police crash statistics match up (% vs. pop size) to that expectation.
  11. Reported again. lol Trademe are pretty slack with their reports though, when I'm searching for cars I end up reporting like 30 listings over the course of an hour due to ridiculous keyword spam making them show up in the wrong search terms, and trademe would only take action on like 1 or 2 of them.
  12. Asked him what turbo it has...if it doesn't actually have the STi turbo then it's a bit obvious, otherwise if he says it does and it doesn't he's lying. Sounds like a bit of a muppet doesn't he :
  13. Wikipedia seems to indicate that GC8D / GF8D onwards had the same power, but the wagon had slightly more torque (to make up for slightly higher weight I assume?). I know wikipedia is to be taken with a huge grain of salt, but I assume people haven't just made up power and torque figures out of mid air without anyone calling them on it
  14. Thanks for the advice everyone, and to everyone else just for reading . Went pretty well, only problem really was the parking brake adjusting spring falling out when I was bolting everything back together :, didn't know where it went and the service manuals were a bit of a pain but I think I got it right. Parking brake works at least (although does need tightening up now methinks). Have taken it for a drive round the block and nothing seems to have fallen off, so I'm happy there For anyone with the same problem reading this in future, this guide was an awesome resource as well as the advice offered in this thread. Pics of the initial damage to follow ;D Also, freezing the replacement studs + coating them in crc or other such lube makes the pulling process twice as fast
  15. Easy enough, CRC is my jesus. Certainly easier to get out than my wheel was to get off the busted nuts (pics to follow will show why...)
  16. Managed to get 3 of them for $1 each from pick a part but thanks very much for the offer
  17. Right so been to five different places including a subaru wrecker, and nobody wants to sell me the studs. To pick a part I go.
  18. Yeah we do, I can just get a whole replacement hub from a legacy from there for $17 which I'm told will fit, probably the cheaper option?
  19. Cheers, can I just get studs and open ended wheel nuts from supercheap / repco or do I need to find some form of specialty place?
  20. Right so on the wheel the previous owner at some point put incorrect wheel nuts on, I (or tony's tyre service with their ridiculous gorilla torque wheel gun) have now managed to strip the already damaged thread on one if not two of the studs. Was making a god awful noise which lead me to look at the wheel, saw that three nuts were on fine, one was slightly not on all the way and another was very not on all the way. Took off the very wrong one, and now of course can not get any nut on there because it just turns into infinity. The second most (theoretically) damaged stud's nut is on so tight I am unable to remove, so that's probably fucked too. So assuming I have indeed stripped the thread completely and need to repair this: Do I need a whole new hub? If so, what are my options, and what will they rape my wallet with? Where in Wellington (preferably porirua) can I have this remedied? Can I drive the car with the one wheel attached by only 4 of 5 nuts the 10-20km required to get this fixed, or do I need to get further raped for it to be towed? Car is a '97 wrx wagon, hub in question is the rear left. FML. X2.
