Have just completed the purchase of a 1990 RS type RA.
My first turbo car and am stoked with it!
Its completely stock apart from the Exhaust which is a 3inch turbo back leading into a 5inch muffler.
Too loud at the moment so am going to put a 3inch muffler on.
While on boost it sometimes surges any ideas why or how to fix this?

Yea il take it up to Bayswater when im next in town. If its the centre diff, will that require a replacement one?
Shes a manual. Btw the high pitched noise has stopped, hasnt done it for a week now.

Drove back from Taupo to HB today and clunked as I turned into the driveway. Drove it two hours later to see if old man could help diagnose it but nothing happened :-\ was perfectly fine.
-
True cheers
Any idea why it would only do it when the car is warmed up rather than all the time?
-
Recently my BH has started to make a few strange sounds, both only happen when the engine and car are really warm,
The first is a high pitched noise coming from the back left wheel which comes on when the car is warm
and sometimes turns off when I turn around a corner.
The other, is a clunking thuddding noise which has happened twice at the end of a long trip when I
turn the steering wheel until it locks and then drive. I can feel it through the steering wheel as well.
Any ideas? I thought it was a stone in the brake at first but it only comes on after a good half an hour?
I had also thought it could be one of the CVs or Centre Diff??
Cheers.

So as the title says my climate control is stuck on and everything works apart from the off button and the auto button.
Is this common? Couldnt find anything on the search.
Is it fixable or will I need a replacement unit?
Cheers

Iv got 205/50/R16's on my BH and they look good (for 16"s).

Definitely get the TS-R mate.
TX is the poverty spec version.

Swt il take it in to Palmfields next week.
No check engine light and not sure how to check the codes?
General maintenance is v.good, oil/filter religiously every 10k, upper engine cleaner 6months ago, wheels all good.

Hey man, i'm happy with how it sounds aye, definitely sounds like a Subaru. I heard it from outside the car the other day when my old man dropped me off at the top of the hill with my mtn bike, believe it or not but I could've almost mistaken it for a wrx when he took off
I don't have a video that does it any justice sorry. But its 2.25" piping from the cat converter back with a decent sized resonator, thru to a Fujitsubo muffler. Its pretty quiet
Mean thats wicked ive changed my muffler and mine sounds alrite but the exhaust tip is now rooted from being scraped so looking 2 replace just the tip anyone know which tip would sound good or does the tip do nothing?

Cheers. No check engine lights.
How much for a new afm or O2 sensor?

My economy in my 1999 TS-R has suddenly gone really bad, 190kms on half a tank driving normally around town.
I always measure the kms per tank on the trip meter and over the last six months it has decreased alot.
My mates 2001 GTB now gets more kms lol
I'm thinking it could be buggered spark plugs or O2 sensor?
What do you think?
Cheers

So serviced today and snorkelectomy.
Lets hope the plugs make a difference. My feelers got 1.8mm gap!
And take a look at the exhaust system for those who haven't seen an NA's before. It's soo weedy when compared to the stock one on single turbs like my forester. I think I'm gonna save a few hundy and get a system made from the heads back. Nice and tuned to increase the torque.
And after doing the foz's plugs last year, the legacy's are a breeze.
Sorry 2 drag up an old thread but how much did it cost to get the spark plugs changed?
My economy in my 1999 TS-R has suddenly gone really bad, 195kms on half a tank driving normally around town.
So im thinking it could be f***** spark plugs or O2 sensor?

Just got the car back, sounds mint now. It sounds deeper and has a bit more of a rumble, without being too loud. It doesn't drone at low revs either.
Might post a video up for the other TS-R owners on here when I get the chance.
Hey dude would be kn to hear how the car sounds and wat you actually put on it?
cheers

One of my headlights on my 95 Legacy SW blew (well I thought it had). So off to the local automotive car shop for 2 new bulbs, thought I might as well get 2. Went to put it in and the light that I had thought had blowen (left hand side) hadn't. Instead the plug had sh1t itself! More specifically the earth connector had, bulb was fine. Back down to the shop and got a new plug. The 2 power wires I put back together and the earth wire I earthed to the battery earth next to where the headlight goes in. I did this after talking to the chap in the store as he said sounds like a dodgy earth, give it it's own earth to the body.
Now... the right hand light works fine, however the blue light on the dash to show full beam comes on very dimmly even when the light are on dip, left hand light is slightly dimmer then the right, and when you flick to full beam the dash light comes on normal brightness, right hand light flicks to full normally and the left hand light gets dimmer.
Something obviously isn't right...
Where the battery earth goes onto the body next to the left hand light, is this not an ideal place to earth?
I'm 99% sure that I put the power wires around the right way....
Anyone have any ideas?
Hey Dude, Funny this happened because today I noticed one of my bulbs had blown so bought 2 new ones and went 2 put them in and the plug/socket that the actual bulb goes into was melted and broken. Ive realised now that this was due to having bulbs with too much wattage but my question is where did u get the new plug from and did u have to rewire it all up?
Cheers

Firstly does your B4 have Bilstein Suspension (Yellow Struts)?
If yes then buy a set of lowering springs eg Tein, King
If no, then buy as set of bilsteins and then buy the springs.
Putting lowering springs on stock subaru struts is the quickest way to f*** them.
My car is the wagon version of your car its a TS type R, its got bilsteins and Tein lowering springs and looks and handles way better than when it was stock.

mean cheers dude!

Yea mate they're S-Techs. They lower it a nice amount without being impractical. They are quite a lot stiffer than the Bilsteins though but the handling tradeoff is worth it.
Swt yea the GTB mags look good on ur BG!
-
Bilsteins are in
Before:
After:
I'm stoked with the improvement in handling. Next on the list is sway bars from a GTB if they fit, and then some lowering springs (would like some H&R's)
Nice bro..yea the bilsteins improved my TS-R's handling heaps. Wait til you put the lowering springs in, then itl handle like a dream! Keltik and I put Teins in my legacy and the improvement in handling was massive, plus it looks way better lowered. How much did you get the GTB mags for?
