No it just takes a bit to get up to second turbo when overtaking sometimes. I usually drop from 4th to 3rd to overtake so when in 3rd revs are about between 3-4000 then it's the push from there to 5000 that's a bit slow sometimes. It's all probably completely normal though I suppose.
Well the second turbo seems to kick in at just over 5000 revs so there. I find it's hard to get it up there in 3rd gear when overtaking sometimes. I also don't feel the second sometimes.
I was actually thinking of getting either the Infinity REF-6500CX 6-1/2 Inch 2-Way Component or the JBL GTO609C 6-1/2" 2-Way component and the Soundstream Tarantula Series TX2.350 2 Ch 350 rms or the Harman/kardon CA280 2-Channel from jonvy.
Can't decide, not sure what's best.
jonvy doesn't currently have any Focal gear..
The only Focal I may be able to afford are the Focal Access 165 AS at abtec.co.nz Also in price range at abtec are JBL GX-600c and Hertz DSK130.3
Any suggestions?
I've noticed a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 300.2 amplifier on Trademe for sale. I've discovered that Phoenix Gold is a well respected car audio brand. I was planning to buy a brand new Soundstream or Harmon/Kardon amp. The Tantrum 300.2 suits my power needs although maybe not quite the same amount as headroom as the Soundstream or Harmon/Kardon. Is Phoenix Gold really so good that I should try and grab it instead of the other brand new ones?
It apparently is 5 years old with only 1 year of use. The new one's will of course have warranties..
Is a 4ga kit really necessary? Does it put more strain on the battery?
Any opinions on the amps and speakers I'm considering?
Also came across JBL GX-600c
Those brands for wiring kits? Boss seems to be not so recommended for amps so their wiring kits are ok though?
How about this http://www.jonvy.co.nz/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=3456
No mention of being 100% oxygen free copper which is what to look for.
Any opinions on my amp + speaker considerations?
Well these are the amps and speakers I'm considering. What do you think would work well or should I be looking into something else within their price range?
Amps: Soundstream TX2.350, STL2.350, Picasso PX2.420 or the Harman/Kardon CA280
Speakers: JBL GTO 609C, JBL GTO 608C (older?) or the Infinity REF-6500CX
Hmm, I put no thought into what sort of battery at the time, the guy at the shop just replaced it with this.
I was listening for only a minute or so after I turned the engine off. As I've said the battery has no trouble at all after it's been jumpered.
I'm thinking of getting the Soundstream TX2.350 or the Harman/Kardon CA280 Is anyone familiar with them? Are they pretty good?
For speakers I'm thinking the Infinity REF-6500CX. I'm hoping for good mid bass..

Thinking of getting that or the Harman/Kardon CA280 http://www.jonvy.co.nz/index.php?route=product/product&path=59_234&product_id=2814
I have been installing my new stereo and have disconnected the battery while doing so. When I hooked the battery back up the car started fine so I turned it off then sat there listening to the radio for a few minutes then tried to start the car again but it didn't. Somehow it went flat and I don't have any idea why? Once jump started it has no trouble starting on it's own again.
I have to leave my key in the ignition when I disconnect the battery because it's the only way to get the gear stick out of the way of the dash for removal. Don't know if this has anything to do with it?
Yeah I'm guessing that will be how whole 3ohm thing will work. I'm still unsure on what sort of bass response to expect from front components alone. I could run the rears off the headunit for a bit of rear fill but they might not even be audible once the fronts are amped? I'm on a budget and it's hard to find any amps not too expensive that allow headroom to drive 90W speakers. I may end up going for the JBL 70W components.
What's the specs on your caliber amp and how much?
Ah front only is to create a more frontal soundstage but it seems that having rearfill is a preference as well rather than a must do. Haven't found out if front speakers only must have a sub to give bass though.
Yeah I just read the whole thing about just having the front speakers only it was a while ago and I can't really remember why people do just the front? Starting to realise the components look more aimed at the mid-high spectrum. Were the fronts by themselves really that lacking in bass? Could you of got used to it or did you really need something more for bass?
I could go for a 4 channel and do something like you have I suppose, just on a bit of a budget but the rear speakers could come at a later stage I guess..
What sort of pioneers? Do you need anything expensive for the rears? I was thinking about going with just components up front and sub at a later stage, probably one of those powered 8''s
Not sure I'll have to have another look. Will this clarion not really cut it for the 6500cx's? http://www.wavetech.co.nz/Clarion-XR2220.html
Are you sure you have 6500cs's? The tweeters in your pic look like the 6500cx ones.
Do they sound good anyway? I never get any bass at highway speed with stock, does this change with aftermarket? The stock clarions are 15W nominal!
