  1. Linkup saying $25 for a 300g can....I think we may have a winner!
  2. Supercheap website implies they are 300g cans for $35. Autopaint might be a goer on that basis, as I will probably need a couple of cans. http://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/Product/Lyndar-Basecoat-Aerosol-300g/373398?menuFrom=1021774 Both involve popping over to Henderson, and I need some wiper refills for the BH so will be headed that way anyways.
  3. Despite being a 98, the paint looks in pretty good condition, so I am tempted to just get it done to a code. It was actually the autopaint guy saying, via email without seeing the car, that because it was an old car the paint would be faded so the colour wouldn't match.
  4. That is a great question @SpeedySub I'm not sure....
  5. Reviving this thread for AKL.... Need to patch up my rear bumper and spray some skirts I am acquiring that are the wrong colour....got in touch with www.autopaint.co.nz a while ago and they quoted the following to give aerosol cans that are custom matched (given the actual colour will have faded and therefore be different from my paint code) Is this reasonable? Has anyone used these guys before or have alternative recommendations?
  6. I did this recently on my McIntosh stereo in the wife's BP and it was very straight forward. From memory splicing it into the power cable was pretty straightforward,I just crimped mine as I am lazy.
  7. The Wife's JDM BP is fine so far, though we've only had it <6 months....think I will start religiously applying armourall to the dash after reading this thread... If you get desperate....get a carpet dash cover.... https://www.subaruspeed.co.nz/collections/interior/products/new-dash-carpet-legacy-03-09
  8. Hmmm, this is making me want a carbon filter as this is my daily and I'm sensitive to fumes.... I'm assuming the existing filter is black because it's old, rather than being a carbon filter! In other news, vacuuming out the enclosure and the old filter has transformed my AC system....it's like I've turbo charged the heater! Used to need to turn it up to like 25 to feel warm air, now 20 blows hot, haha.
  9. Cool, what have you done so far?
  10. Actually, I need the whole skirt don't I. not just the splash guards? Looks like my car doesn't have any trim on the sides...the skirts are are a cover that bolt on top, and the splash guards bolt onto that.
  11. I'll be putting one of these in later this week...any tips on the "fidgety-ness" or will it be pretty obvious when I start playing around with it?
  12. The attachment points for the splash guards don't look too different...e.g. http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-SUBARU-BH5-BH9-BE5-Legacy-Wagon-B4-Bumper-Valance-lip-kit-Side-skirt-OEM-/122175439750?hash=item1c72394386:g:mREAAOSwEK9TuV0G&vxp=mtr#shpCntId vs http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-2003-JDM-SUBARU-LEGACY-B4-BH5-WAGON-AERO-SPLASH-MUD-FLAP-GUARD-SET-OEM/201663461161?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D38530%26meid%3D6e2d1bbd2ca84b0e99578fbeb1ca1786%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D201663461161 Why wouldn't the skirts fit? would have thought it would just bolt in if you removed the old one? unless the attachment points or surrounding panels have changed? If the splash guards won't work, I might just look into some Rev A-C trim then.
  13. As my part of my quest to turn my 98 Brighton into a "sleeper spec" nicer legacy, I've been wondering about getting the factory kit from from a nicer BH legacy. I know a lot of stuff changed with Rev D, so some stuff isn't backward compatible (the grill/headlights from memory?), but would the splash guards that go over the skirts and rear bumper fit on the existing rear bumper/skirts? If not, any reason the skirts/bumpers wouldn't be a straight bolt on? Car being wrecked on TM for parts I am looking at the trim from http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1176695755 Not so great pic of my wagon
  14. Since we are sharing dirty cabin filter photos...don't think mine had ever been changed either! vacuumed the old one and chucked it back in while I wait for the replacement...can already tell the difference!
  15. This is true, but without the Brighton badge, how he would know it's a Brighton and not a TS-R? Rego just says "Subaru Legacy". haha, maybe I should just buy a nicer legacy, rather than transforming my budget legacy into a nicer legacy...
  16. How would they even know if it's 100% OEM?
  17. So my runabout BH legacy has drum breaks in the rear as it's the base model Brighton. I've done some research and apparently it's a simple swap to put in the disc brake setup from another Legacy of the same generation. My question is whether this will require LVV certification? Given it would be an OEM part, is the kind of thing that would even be noticed?
  18. True that, will open her up this weekend. Not too far from the pick-a-part in Avondale if I don't have one.
  19. You didn't happen to keep the old holder did you? I have a feeling the one I linked from TM doesn't have the holder, and I have this vague memory that Brighton spec Legacies (which I have) don't have a cabin filter, even though they have the slot for one. Though that is based on my reading American forums so my worry may be misplaced....
  20. Thinking of putting some dynamat in the doors of by BH as I have some rattles that I'm struggling to get rid of since I replaced the stock speakers. I cut the old speakers out of their mounts/surrounds and screwed the new speakers into the old surround, so that could be part of my problem and I have a few things to look at on that front. Has anyone used cheaper alternatives to dynamat? This is my run-around/commuter/weekend car for the dogs (have a nicer BP for the wife), so I'm not looking to drop a lot of cash on it, just make it enjoyable for myself, hence exploring alternatives. Found this on TM http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/vintage-parts/other/auction-1173142178.htm Or can get stuff like this from China https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Factory-supply-high-quality-self-adhesive-butyl-rubber-car-soundproof-damping-sound-deadening-material/32503759461.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.2.EBjy4e&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1_10056_10065_10068_10055_10067_10054_112_10069_10059_110_111_10073_10017_109_10070_108_10060_10061_10052_10062_10053_10050_10051,searchweb201603_1&btsid=72313014-0d9f-4a30-affe-76a1ffe64460 or this from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Noico-deadening-automotive-Insulation-dampening/dp/B01KZ5X7KO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475786142&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=sound+deadening&psc=1 Thoughts?
  21. This just popped up on TM.... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/subaru/interior/auction-1174019455.htm
  22. +1 for where you get to on this...mine needs to be replaced pretty badly.
  23. Thanks, might drop them a line and see if they have a record of whether they came off a sedan or a wagon. The fact that they are described as "B4" Bilsteins suggests a sedan right? Or am I wrong that B4 was a label only applied to sedans? This conversation is leaning me towards just finding some stock Bilsteins off a wagon....
  24. That's a spec on the springs right? My assumption had been since these are OEM parts (though STI springs aren't stock obviously) there would be no issues. Is the issue that the pinks may be meant for a legacy sedan and therefore have a spring rate that's inappropriate for a wagon which will have more weight in the rear? Sorry for the noob questions!
  25. On a quick google a few people do rebuilds in Auckland (e.g. http://www.autolign.co.nz/racelign.html) Also, Strong for Subaru guarantee non-subaru parts for 30 days...my main concern was buying something 2nd hand, putting them in and finding out they are bung, so that is mitigated to some extent as long as I don't muck around getting them in the car and testing.
