  1. I'm a DIY/tinkerer at heart, but a bit of noob when it comes to DIY'ing cars (limited to replacing head units/speakers and swapping in a nicer steering wheel and some bigger rims).  My daily driver/run-around/dog car is a 98 BH legacy which I picked up dirt cheap. Has some oil leaks and trans lag which I'm going to get Subirex to sort at some stage, but am starting to think about mods I can do myself.

The car is about as stock as it gets as it's a Brighton.  Was wondering if there any issues picking up a set of second hand bilsteins from a BH/BE legacy and dropping them in? e.g. this set with pinks from Strong for Subaru

I guess second hand parts from a BH/BE are getting pretty old now, do shocks age well/can they be serviced? Anything to look out for?

  2. I think the main speaker in my LHS door is blown, has anyone replaced these before? Can I just swap in a pair of inexpensive after market speakers (i.e. replace RHS too), or should I try and hunt down a speaker from a wrecker since there are multiple speakers in each door and it might throw the sound out if I put something different in?

I haven't taken the door card off to have a look yet as it is currently the daily driver...will do so this weekend.

  3. So far it works great. Parrot wouldn't have allowed me to play music through the head unit, which was also a key requirement. GROM or Anycar are more than double the price, so was willing to give this a whirl.

Given a GROM/Anycar cost around the same as a basic aftermarket head unit, I'm guessing they have mega markups....the electronics involved can't be that expensive.

  4. If it's of interest to anyone, can confirm that the Yatour unit works fine with my McIntosh head unit. Bluetooth doesn't auto connect for some reason, so need to connect every time I get in the car, otherwise works and sounds great.

Hit up subirex automotive. 10 years at wingers hes bloody good at what he does and 15% off for club members iirc. Or tell him clint from clubsub sent you that should do it.

Ahhh, someone earlier in the thread said he was at Highbrook now, but on a quick google he has his own shop now in Manukau. Will definitely give him a yell. Have a 98 BH that will probably need some work at some stage too, but that is down the priority list.

  6. Fair enough, $160 for a piece of plastic is a rip-off! I have access to a 3D printer so was considering that. Through some digging I have managed to locate the part number (66065AG050 or 66065AG040), and there are a few online in Europe that work out at bout $70.

Just need to work out if that + a double din head unit and a bunch of wiring/soldering (which isn't trivial given imminent baby induced time constraints!) is better than just buying an Anycar 1080B and a band expander.
