Which port on the heads got used? Front or back? One is baffled and the other not so it could potentially be hooked up to the wrong one.
If the bottom of the can isn’t full then it isn’t so bad. It’s just full of moisture which is preventing it from seeping through that bottom baffle plate

Yeah its just buildup on the baffle plate. Just weird that the crank case is much cleaner but maybe thats normal.

I'll have to check which one i plumbed them to, can't remember atm.

That seems like quite a lot out of the heads aye. Is it driven particularly hard? Does yours have the twin ports on the heads or just single?

What’s the size of those? They look like the small Mishi ones?
Also having them VTA doesn’t negate the need to empty them periodically.

wouldn't say its driven 'hard' but it definitely sees its fair share of boost for the road, its close to 240kw if that makes a difference.

Yes the heads have twin ports.

Not sure what size but its pretty small. The majority of the build up is in the photo shown. not much in the bottom of the can (anything that can reach the bottom drains out)

  3. So I opened my 5000-8000km old catch cans (which vent to atmosphere so I never have to empty cans). One catch can catches air from the heads and other one for crank case only. For some reason the can that catches air from the heads have a huge amount of oily build up whereas the crank air has much less.

Is this normal to get this much build up?

    Images blow (enjoy)

Pretty much anything GD fits the spline as far as I know; the ultimate in rare and glorious being a V10 Spec C wheel (or there may even be a factory alcantara one that came on some S204's but is so rare as to basically not exist).

Getting the clock spring and airbag to work correctly is another matter altogether. Anything later than V8 uses a clever multi-stage airbag that will throw an SRS fault, and probably not go off if you stack the car. I believe the only way to make it all work nicely with a late-model wheel is to get a V8 inflator and clockspring then fit them to a later model wheel.

The americans do all sorts of swaps, check out NASIOC and that other big US subaru forum that the name escapes me....

Pulling up an old thread as I'm in need of a new wheel.

Am I correct in saying a v8 sti wheel will fit my v7 sti with no issues but a v9+ may have airbag issues?

I'm considering re covering my original in alcantara or getting a v8 wheel and recovering that in alcantara.  The v7 wheels look clunky. Or how about a bl or bp legacy wheel? They look nice if there's no buttons.

Is your Link even using the O2 sensors any more? V7 has two, one at the bottom of the headers and one after the turbo, nominally to monitor the cat is working properly. I can't remember which one is also used for narrow band AFR adjustment by the ECU, funny feeling it's the bottom one. Reasonable chance your Link has them disabled, and if it doesn't you can just go turn off the bottom one and delete it if your tune isn't running closed loop.

I'll find out soon enough. I'll talk to Chris before the tune and see what he wants me to do. Ideally I can just keep it as is.

It will drive fine... unlikely that the 02 sensor is used for anything more than a fail safe. If you are worried just message Chris and tell him the situation.

    ok thanks for the info.

If it runs okay, it will be fine to drive carefully.

Currently have test fitted headers and they appear to fit great. So good using OEM parts as fitment is always on point. Just fitted new oil pan which was a prick.

Should be running tomorrow if I can get a couple gaskets I need.

    What ECU?

If there is no cat in the downpipe, there is no need for an O2 sensor right by the turbo... you only need the one, and down the far end of the downpipe is a better location.

It's too hot right by the turbo for an O2 sensor under load, and only used in a factory setup to cycle the AF ratio up and down (when cruising) to keep the cat in the downpipe clean.

Oh that sound great. I'm running a link ecu. If i had to guess, it's tuned using the o2 that was in the manifold so that could be tricky for when I want drive the vehicle to Macbilt and the tuner or will it automatically use the second o2?

No cats in a twin scroll up-pipe so no need for an O2 sensor pre turbo. No issue for me as the gc8 never had a pre-turbo cat either.

    Ok thanks.

My car never had cats pre turbo either. I have a secondary o2 underneath the car on the downpipe but there is also a bung at the top of the downpipe, shall I drill it out and put the o2 sensor that was on the uppipe in that bung?

I used Subaru v9 STi headers... they are purportedly better than most or all off the shelf aftermarket headers.

You have to change the sump and dipstick... oh and the oil pickup and possibly the windage tray... I don't remember changing that though.

@Loren Im ready to install my set off a twin scroll car with modified uppipe. Just looking at my headers and it appears they have no O2 sensor whereas my stock Unequal length headers have the O2 sensor on the headers. Where did you install the o2 and did you just use the original one?

It's like they are trying to hypnotise us... yes... I see it now... this whale is really a WRC car from the 90s. cool. I'll buy one.

Why don't they just re-release the GC8? That's what everyone wants surely... and it will slap all the greedy 60k to 90k trademe f***wads in the face :)

I'm sure they could make something decent. They should make a 2 door with 'gc8 looks' to rival the supra haha.
