  1. Yea all sorted. I took hub out myself and took it to the mechanic so that would save some $$. Not sure of cost yet. At least 150 for bearing, second hand hub was $50 ish (they got it) plus some labour.
  2. Maybe it has been smoking a little but this time it was unmissable when I was pulling up at the house. Probably was just a drop of oil or something.
  3. Nah. They do leak oil and I do have the gasket set but I have not done it yet because im not quiet confident enough. I could easily do it but im worried about the bolt torque as I cant get a torque wrench in there. It never smoked before but maybe a lot of oil leaked out after it has been sitting for a week?
  4. Got Hub assembly back in car with new bearing and took it back out for a drive. So good driving it after a week of driving a floppy kia people mover... Although after the drive I came back and there was smoke coming out of the bonnet from under the rocker cover on driver side... no idea what it is, ill just keep an eye on it.
  5. Took down to mechanic and they said its been "spinning on the hub" whatever that means and in short its buggered. I need a new hub. Great.. They said its probably due to the loose axle nut. Sucks knowing some idiot has been "fixing" the car at one point.
  6. I talked to my mechanic and he said Repco wheel bearings are fine. So I got one on my way home. (DONT USE REPCO BEARING) Took off axle nut which was pretty loose. Axle came out with some gentle hammering. Took hub off and looked at the bearing and sure enough it has a bunch of movement in it. More worryingly the current bearing has all the same writing that my replacement repco bearing has on it "Koyo" etc etc.*facepalm* I assume its already been replaced before. I dont know the service life of a wheel bearing but im sure a third one at 160,000 kms is a little short. Ima just go ahead and put the new one on. If I need to replace another one down the road its not a big deal. Edit: Gonna get genuine subaru one now.
  7. Its wheel bearing. Will a repco bearing do the job? Im prob gonna try do this myself or take the hub to mechanic to get it pressed out and in correctly. https://www.repco.co.nz/en/brands/repco/repco-wheel-bearing-kit-wbk5217/p/A1208595 Looked in partsouq but didnt have any of the bearings in stock...
  8. Yeah I took it back out and was thinking about it. I think thats probably what it is. My Mechanic should know for sure.
  9. Recently I have gotten a grinding/squelching/scratching noise coming from front left of car when turning right or if I yank it left. Its gotten worse and worse over last 2 or 3 days. When im driving while slightly turned left its fine. Happens at all speeds and increases in frequency as I speed up. Its not a clicking so doubt its CV/Axle. I could be wrong on that tho. I have wiggled wheel vertically and no movement from wheel bearing or strut however there is a little movement when wiggling it horizontally and the movement is coming from the rack, just a little play I guess. Cant see any stones lodged anywhere near the rotors/pads. Would like to know what everyone here thinks it could be. Ill prob take it to mechanic tomorrow if I cant figure it out. This video im turning left and right (noise is when I turn right). May struggle to hear without headphones. At slow seeds.
  10. yeah, would be a cool build to do one day when I have the room and time. In the mean time im looking at buying a Mini as investment/project car.
  11. +1 Although they did leave my all of my intercooler hose clamps barely tight than finger loose after clutch job... Tempted to try Macbilt next time coz I hear lots of good things about them too.
  12. Yep your right. Im pretty sure I have gotten more incorrect parts than correct ones at this point. The front essentials kit I got definitely was WEK076 (I remember checking the label) but came with WEK075 ALK and WEK075 front LCA bushes.
  13. Finally fixed my dang squeaking noise (95% sure anyways). So I lifted car off the ground, unbolted sway bar end links (to see if it still squeaks with them off) and still squeaked so I know its something to do with the Control arm bushes (specifically the Anti Lift kit) and not the Sway bar. I loosened front and rear control arm bolts, lowered car down on bits of wood, jumped around car to level the bushes again, tightened bushes back again and still squeaked. Was looking around and saw that the subframe was jammed hard up against the Anti lift kit and part of the bush so I unbolted the four rear 14mm bolts on subframe (2 on each side) and it dropped down about about 2mm below body. I knew this would be the noise so I put a decent washer in between the subframe and body and re tightened the subframe 14mm bolts, drove 50m down road and boom its fixed. The noise drove me crazy so im so happy I got it fixed. Weird no one else has had this issue... You can see below its touching ALK and Bush. After I installed washer you can see there is a gap now.
  14. I was thinking the same, a whole bunch of torque everywhere and no lag with a nice 6 cylinder exhaust noise to go with it, perfect daily. Even my Sti is a bit annoying to daily because its just warmed up when I get to work 15 mins away so I have to baby it the whole way off boost.
  15. Yeah eg33 seems to be more popular swap into imprezas. Unless in america they are easier to get.
  16. Haha 13b wouldnt be difficult or expensive . Would be cool tho lol
  17. Yeah MCM's was in a legacy with a turbos and and stuff. That build was pretty cool.
  18. I was not thinking about my car. I was thinking about a gc gf chassie impreza and just having an NA H6 in there. Nothing too special. Im not sure if the factory gearboxes from the 1.6-1.8na gearboxes will handle the torque of an H6 unless I could find a wrx or sti with no engine. @Joker cheers ill take a look tonight.
  19. I have been thinking (again lol) about an EZ30/36 swap in an Impreza/wrx body. Done some research and seem like its a case of finding an EZ30 with gearbox, modify wiring to suit the body to the engine, aftermarket ECU(?) and modify radiator location. I assume there would also be other stuff like fuel pumps I may need to upgrade too. Has anyone had experience with a swap like this and is it as easy as it sounds? I like the idea of being able to do a swap by myself with basic tools and not needing a shop to make custom mounts etc.
  20. The front bush is factory bush. I did re tighten it just now and still squeaked a bunch when pulling out of garage and around driveway. Was a lot worse on passenger side which was the side with the bent mount . Btw I did reverse the nut and bolt direction (on both arms) so the nut is at the front of the car and bolt is rear because it made installing the arms a lot easier. I doubt this would make any difference tho. Is it possible I didnt tighten the ALK enough? I did the 2 bolts holding it to body with a short breaker bar as tight as I could while lying down but only had big adjustable crescent for the one big bolt.
  21. uhh I tightened the front LCA bush with wheels hanging but the rear ALK I did on the ground... Should I just loosen the front bush and tighten back up on ground or do I need to re tighten the Rear ALK bush too? I hope I dont need to remove subframe again lol...
