always liked the Evo 3 too. But my fave will always be the 6.5 makkinen. Great looking car and goes well too! Values will always remain reasonably high for a standard example!

If you are foolish enough to be late for work and have to speed in your bright red, sparkly wrx.....you deserve to be ticketed. If you insist on speeding then buy a radar detector and be careful, but the preferred option obviously is to keep your speeding on the track! For the record: 1. how long until demerits drop off? 2. how do you know how many demerits you have? 3.what are the rules with regards to operation of handheld, patrol car mounted or van mounted speed cameras? If "the club" is aware of the rules around this then perhaps we could collectively save some coin!

yeah i think if you have got a high lvl of driver skill and knowledge of driving an evo in particular, the more recent variants with all driver aids would prob be quicker point to point than the STi. Its much of a muchness. As Pappu and DPI pointed out though the STi is a better car for 99.9% of the drivers! For me it comes down to individual preference but things to note: -early evos have better gearboxes in standard form. -WRXs appear quicker and are definately more compliant as a daily drive. -Evos are "technically" quicker point to point.

I think the Evos have always traditionally been the slightly quicker and more balls to the wall car. They just seem a little tougher than the STi to me especially the drivetrain up until the 6 speed hit the streets. However, I am not really a fan of running with the pack and when I bought my WRX it seemed like every tom, dick(head) and harry bignoter had an evo at the time. Its all about choice. Id go for a Subbie over a Mitsi 99% of the time but id choose an Evo 6.5 Makkinen or FQ400 over any subbie most likely.

+1. We had an army PTI guy as our fitness one year for league and we were doing hill runs with all these weights he had grabbed. I was late and thus got the pole you mentioned. It was fricken hard.....its a hard run of around 15 mins uphill without a weight.....with the pole it was insane but i was fucked if it was gonna beat me. The dude was standing at the top when i was coming over the lip and i was that fucking mad if he didnt move i would have mowed him over.....reckoned i had murder in my eyes lol.

Oh noes! It wouldnt make a significant difference as the car is slow anyways. Just go for the best economy you can get Shale and use the legacies for power!

standard heads will do all you need up to 500hp apparently. there is a thread somewhere in here debating this very thing. Closed deck block is a good option and can be had for peanuts.

this is always a contreversial subject in the modified car world. you need to get your car insured for an "agreed value" which afaik means you need to take it into a garage and get a written valuation. Easy enough if you know someone at a garage but a pain if you dont. FYI im with AMI and have found them top notch so far to deal with. But have home, contents and 2 vehicles with them which always gets you nicer treatment than if you just have the car imo.

hrm. excuse me for saying this but its a block FFS. None of them are exciting. You want it boring. It means it hasnt sh1t itself!!! I dont care what block it is aslong as it does as god intended, helps make good power and is cheap to replace if it does break.

and realistically its more about driveability than absolute maximum hp anyhow. if you have a tidal wave at torque pretty much from 2.5k-6k then its all good right?
