  1. This is the sort of clearance I have, lowered but pretty similar to a standard GTB, should I give up the hopes of taking this up the ski field and settle for shuttles? ha
  2. Haha when the front bumper becomes a grader you know you\'re in deep shit Another question, chains on (moderately) lowered cars, do they fit?
  3. Wise words, I\'ll keep hunting on trademe for a good deal. Are the ladder type ones all good or is it worth spending a bit extra for some diamond ones?
  4. Cheers this is all good info, I\'ve done a bit of driving in the snow but I\'ve only driven up ski field roads a couple of times when the acess roads have been pretty good If the roads are restricted to 4WD or chains only what are the chances of being allowed up in a car like mine without them?
  5. Snow forecasts for CHCH and the ski season coming up have got me thinking - how often do you really need chains on an AWD Subaru? We often take the wagon down south for road trips and will probably be doing a few ski field trips, and I\'m trying to justify the cost. They could have come in handy on Burkes pass the other weekend (see pic) otherwise never needed to use them. So to those of you who regularly hit up the ski fields, how often do you use them?
  6. Pretty committed these guys, was around at Richards on Monday arvo as he was putting together the new engine before leaving first thing the next morning, and they managed to get it going and even run it in in that short space of time Richard has shown he can drive so here\'s hoping the car doesn\'t let him down this time!
  7. Removing the cat will make it louder if he\'s worried about noise
  8. Sweet as cheers guys, definitely not expecting a diff back section to fit or for the existing hangers to bolt straight up, just wondering if the size of the muffler itself will be alright
  9. Will a fujitsubo muffler from a BG Legacy go onto a BH without too much drama? Cheers
  10. Na, this was definitely an attempted break in by an amateur cunt
  11. Went to my car to pick out the rego slip from in between the dash and windscreen, where it had wedged itself after flying out of its pocket at the autocross yesterday, and found this The filthy scumbags didn\'t manage to break in but I definitely won\'t be leaving it parked on the street again!
  12. I will give the $100 a tyre Kumho ZU37\'s a run next though, nothing to lose at that price
  13. Another vote for RE002\'s, they are a demon in the wet and they are awesome on a dry road too I would use as different as night and day to describe the difference in the wet weather performance of Kingstars and RE002\'s but it doesn\'t do the RE002\'s justice
  14. Custom made mild steel exhaust and a good second hand muffler will probably be the cheapest option Tim
  15. Tim bought the kit from strongs, it was out of a white tsr sedan. Considering how much he paid for it theres no harm in giving it a go. By no means will it be as quick as a gtb but where\'s the fun in buying a bog standard car when you can do this

    Wheel alignment

I went to this guy on Blairs recommendation and he seemed pretty legit. If you ask for more camber that's what you will get, none of the nonsense that you get from most tyre shops
  17. I've been to On the Go Blenheim road for the last couple of WOFs and I'm looking for alternatives lol
  18. It's WOF time and I'm fed up with my wagon being failed on pathetic little things that would even pass by the WOF manual. Can anyone recommend somewhere local that isn't so pedantic but will still do a thorough check?
  19. I'm taking the wagon down to Qtown next week for winterfest so I might be needing some chains. Does anyone have a pair to suit 215/45/17s that I could either buy or borrow for a week (from next Tuesday the 26th until the following Tuesday)? Will be a box of your preferred beverage in it for your troubles Sam
  20. Cheers Phil but I got a twin cam sorted, going in this week
  21. If the sound goes away when its warmed up then it's probably piston slap, seems to be pretty common with GTBs
  22. Pretty much sorted another twin cam engine to go in in a couple of weeks time Hopefully this one lasts!
  23. Just been on the phone to Gerald, the TS-R EJ20D engines are more like 800 complete, but I can get an EJ20E (single cam instead of the quad cam) for half the price Anyone know what the single cam EJ20's go like? Apparently pretty similar to the quad cam ones? Getting someone to check the car out this week to confirm its a prob with the bottom end and not a head issue. If its definitely a bottom end issue, which I'm pretty sure it is, I might just buy a short block and swap everything over
