Bought a set of 17x8 monoblock versions for $700 last year with decent tires, probably got a bit of a deal though, they come in both forged and monoblock types of construction from what I know with the earlier forged ones being worth more, both are pretty light, they have the construction type printed on them.

Any giveaways to determine a forged from a monoblock set? Or will forged be printed somewhere on the wheel?

Edit: I should learn to read properly - your last sentence answers my question lol

  2. Is anyone here clued up about A-Tech wheels?

I have a set of A-Tech Final Speed Gear-R wheels in gold currently on my S-GT. From what I understand they're quite a high quality wheel, JDM spec sorta thing, very lightweight,

and i'm looking to sell them soon. The issue is I have no idea what they're worth and searching on the internet really doesn't give much information, except a few sets for sale in other countries where a set sold for roughly $700 CAD and then an Australian site (can't find the post anymore) where someone was asking $2200 for a set of white ones.

Any one have more of a clue than me? xD

    A Subaru mechanics dream.

91 octane + heat soaked intercooler + heavy right foot = another dead Subaru motor...

And this is why Subaru's have a bad reputation for a lot of people..

Depends. Your particular car, that front thing draws air in from around the bottom edge of the bonnet. Kinda need that to get it running right.

If you want the "wooshy" noises, take the air box out and remove the white plastic "milk bottle" attached to the bottom of the black air box. Leave the resulting hole open. It Allows extra cold air to be drawn in from behind the drivers side foglights area.

As far as performance gains, moot point. The Subaru factory airboxes are REALLY good, and for the most part, "upgrading" to a cai, particularly an under bonnet, in engine bay style pod filter will end up with you going backwards in power.

But nothing will give you anything like the sort of gains you'll get from a tune ;-)

    Excellent reply, thank you!

Just realised I have the other part of the air box, but not the front thing that draws the air in. S***.

  5. I'm questioning a cold air intake. What's the benefits of these and do they really have much of an improvement over the factory airbox? is there generally any issues that people run into after installing one?

As my my car currently sits, it's basically stock. Still with the factory air intake (box thing) which the front piece has been taken off - quote the old owner "more of a wooshing noise" when the turbo spools lol. I haven't gotten around to sticking the box part back on, but not hugely worried as I assume its less restricted air flow.

If all is well, what's a good option for a cold air intake for an 07 S-GT?

Ok thanks guys... wondering what to do... replace turbo or write the car off and chalk it down to experience and forget turbos... likely about $700 for 2nd hand turbo plus a few hours.

Rest of car is great, new engine has done about 90thou km, did cambelt and pump 10thou ago... CV boots done, suspension bushes done, bearing done, 4 new tyres... fix and keep, or dump...

    Dunno

Sounds like the car would be great for a long time once the turbo is replaced, especially after that much work done to it. Of course it's a good learning curve but i'm gonna vote to fix and keep.

Has anyone ever used this stuff? It by no means interests me, I'm just curious if anyone has used it or something similar and has seen any results?

I read the amazon reviews and they're all very positive. Seems a little excessive at $54 though o.O

I'm going to assume some people steer clear of these sorts of products in general

Does this interest you? It is in Queenstown, not my listing but I've met this guy a couple times.

A friend of mine has an sgt and he just used the red nightshade from repco on his tail lights. Only downside is the inner part still doesn't light up with the tail lights on.

Still looks way better than before though.

Ehh nah that wing looks a little bit over the top for a hatch haha

  9. The red tail light looks so much better than the standard on v10 hatches IMO. I'm looking around and finding that there's a lot of overlay kits just to get this look? Is this the only way to do this or do Subaru actually manufacture the red tail lights? I'm guessing most people use some kind of tint or plasti to get this effect.  pic for reference:  https://gyazo.com/b426da3a0742c58825ac5a0c7e7b26be

Also trying to source an STI spoiler for a v10 hatch. Can't seem to find any. How much do these generally go for too? I'm gonna guess they sting the account quite hard.

Has anybody used Ezlip before? https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/subaru/exterior/listing-1654628485.htm?rsqid=a046d236a22c4010823c6724ec72057e it looks pretty good IMO, quite a budget way to get a lip too which never hurts.

I personally use Apet in Dunedin, never had any issues, quite a few of the rally guys use him too.
He owns a turbo legacy himself, and I've known of him to flash quite a few of them!
Has an in-house AWD dyno too.

I'll get in contact with Apet at some stage

Don't quote me on this, but I've had my car re-tuned for 98 and my tuner said I could happily run 95 as the ECU still retained its knock correction, so I'd say it would be the same case for your car, it would just advance timing within it's limits.

If you could afford the trip to Chch, I'd highly highly recommend @SAS for your tuning. In fact, give them a message on Facebook and/or @gotasuby. They'll be more than happy to help.

I'd be very happy to discuss with them :D Plus a trip to Christchurch wouldn't hurt at all. Gotta get away every now then again, right?

Given you're in Invers with no 98, I'd totally be saving up for the mods you want to do (e.g. exhaust) and then get the car re-flashed for 95.. You'll net more power, bit more economy and an ECU that is happily not retarding timing due to the lower quality petrol :)

Very good point here. Say If I did have this tune for 95 and was somewhere at had 98 fuel, say Dunedin, would it be fine to stick 98 in anyway? Since I like the engine cleaning properties 98 fuel has.
