  1. yusssssss. your the man! *man love moment*
  2. MULTITRAX!!!! thats wat the fella from winger must of said! shweeeeeeeet. you are the man. the question now is, is it cheaper buying it off the shelf or through winger, who obviously must bulk buy. $18.35 a litre from Wings. Hmmm What do u put in rear diff then? Cheers boss!!
  3. for real!! dam man. Exact same as me, (v4 but the same to them) but mines 1.7k a year. sacks!! im 17, but i thought it didnt matter wat age u were if u were under 25? Yeah its strange, the same company, but club auto always is cheaper rates. the question is WHY also, i know u can insure separate items say if ur a true home boi and you got rims half the price of your ride. But say if someone stole my average after market rims, is it covered in a separate accessories thing. Coz i remember when they were giving the details ages ago, something about accessories covered up to 1g or something ??? or is it the normal excess? which would suck
  4. yeah yeah thats the stuff i been talking about!! I've rung around, no one has it. Pretty annoying that it only comes in those huge buckets. Some sites do it by the quart http://www.fredbeansparts.com/servlet/the-1206/Subaru-75w90-%22Extra-S%22/Detail but i tried a few, most will only ship in the US./ just generally not keen to pay a big shipping bill

  6. dam winger! no one reams my anus!! why the fudge doesn't someone import Subaru Extra-S into the country that every man and his dog is boasting about on the big american forums. yeah $50 is what i was expecting to pay. Sounds better. Does supercheap normally stock syntrak?
  7. how much extra dos that cost tho? just called winger to see what they used, never heard of it, was something like multi track?? googled it but nothing. He said i can get it there for $18 a litre seems pretty good. And it must be the GL5 bla bla. interesting "Basically, brass syncronizers like those used in my car do not work well in the presence of the friction modifiers found in most GL-5 gear oils, designed to make it compatible with limited slip units and capable of dealing with the shear and compression forces at work in differentials. Basically, GL-5 is at its heart a differential fluid, not a transmission fluid. Most other manufacturers recommend GL-4 or their own proprietary gear oil in their transmissions, and GL-5 in their differentials. But Subaru, since its front differential is in the same fluid bath as the transmission gears, requires GL-5 which is less than ideal for transmission shift quality but is the only thing to use to adequately protect the front differential. The resolution for this is in synthetic oils which can achieve the GL-5 rating without the use of limited slip additives. Such ones include Motul Gear 300, Redline 75W-90NS and Royal Purple's gear oil."
  8. just checked it out, seems beaut but it says "not recommended for limited slip diffs", and the front diff shares the trans fluid doesn't it? so is this gana be a problemo?
  9. well went into mag and turbz today. $200 for 4L!!!!!!!!!!!! NO DEAL Looks like 'Valvoline HP Gear Oil 75W/90' will have to do :-\
  10. i see, i see.well i just learnt something, although it still doesn't seem right in my head haha. So in conclusion, it seems the only benefit of slipping into neutral is to escape the rumble of the beast, when your ears crave some sweet silence haha.
  11. haha whoops, yeah i read it as under 1500rpm. But it didn't come across that all models have this cut? Do old sti's? Or is it more of a legacy thing? And i dunno what the bombays but im guessing thats a vertical drop haha, coz mine will not gain speed if i keep it in 5th down a hill on motorway. and lets rewind a second. Could someone please explain to me how if my injectors cut, when im off the throttle, how come my car still roars. If there is no explosion taking place, wheres the noise coming from? ???
  12. Well when fuel is about one quarter of your total income. It does matter haha and no i dont want a 1.3litre honda to save fuel haha
  13. haha i know exactly what you mean. My previous car was a 3 speed auto so on the motorway she sat at 4000rpm haha! So any chance to get the horrible stress scream to go a away i jumped at, putting it back into 'D' was another story tho haha.
  14. i said i lose speed if i stay in gear.. hence why i coast if the hill is long enough
  15. i did a bit of research on it ages ago, apparently its real bad to do in autos. Something about how it doesn't get the lubrication it needs if coasting, and that the stress it puts on the box out weighs the tiny fuel saving costs, or something on those lines. I engine break when i should (coming to a stop to save pads), but say on the motor way, coming down a hill, the engine is revving around 3000rpm, alot higher than this injector cut. So if u take your foot off the gas, u lose speed down the hill due to engine breaking. But if u drop into neutral you can hold or gain speed, so its kinda a win win situation. Staying in gear uses more fuel plus even more fuel to get u back up to speed after coasting.
  16. Alright, so i was wondering. How many of you like to slip her into neutral and coast down those nice slopes, in order to save a penny or two of gas. If so, how often. Or is it just me and my tight arse group of mates who enjoy this haha. One of my mates is addicted to coasting, I myself only do it on long stretches of downhill with a stress free rev match at the bottom, ~ 30 seconds at least of rollin. What about you guys?
  17. hahah yup that sums up my finances well. love it
  18. i was originally with NAC, paying 2.3k a year for full insurance (im 17 with an sti), but just changed to club auto, 600$ cheaper a year, down to 1.7k. which for me, on minimum wage basically working one day a week is a HUGE chunk, but its the price of having a nice car, so all good.
  19. well after spending another good hour of research on the fluids for the trans. And after discovering to my disappointment, that winger Subaru does not stock the genuine Extra-S 75w90, that most people are swearing by these days. I am going with what definitely seems like the runner up. Motul 300 gear oil 75w90. Every single gear oil is receiving complaints, some more than others. the only negative side the motul 300 has received is that of being 100% synthetic, and that this is slightly too thin for the synchros to be 100% happy. But after reading pages upon pages of fourms about this exact topic, it still seems to be the winner. VERY VERY commonly used. i know mag and turbo stock the motul range, so am hopefully gana acquire this liquid gold today. I will update once i do the change. fingers crossed -RD
  20. hmm i dont think so? my clutch BITES like a croc on meth
  21. oh true? so basically just gotta take my one in and find a match. i see. shot
  22. sweet, so will winger sell the washer and the genuine Subaru extra S trans oil?? if not, where are some genuine subaru parts places in auckland. thanks :)
  23. when you guys did yours, did you change the seal or not?
  24. Im looking to do my first tranny fluid change as she (1997 sti, 150,000kms) doesnt like going into first/ reverse/ always a push to get into gear. I been doing heaps of research on nasoic etc etc, but every oil that seems to get recommended, someone else always complains that it gave them problems, redline 70w90ns etc. So.. im thinking i should get the subaru oil, Extra S 70w90. Where wud i get this from? Winger? and it seems most tutorials on it, do not mention changing the gasket/s, but yet a few did. What do uou guys think?? Cheers!!! RD
