  1. Well the track gc8 car is finally completed, sussing out transport up here and need to sort out storage hopefully in Pukekohe so I have a minimum mission to get my car to and from the track...otherwise I'll suss something round Albany ways so I can drive it from time to time through Mcdonalds drive thru :P.

Once up just get it tuned and Bam ready for some racing ;)

  2. Daily GDB

Complete aesthetics overhaul, carbon fibre galore/pure wank factor but hey when stuck in traffic who cares haha.....That's the only hint for that til it's unveiling ;)

    Racecar GC8

Finish the tune, put the trust lip on, buddyclub gt spoiler and get the clear coat re-applied for my cf bonnet.

  3. Yeah v8 bonnet, modified gc8 guards..Like the premise, but as we know planning takes 1/10 and execution takes 9/10 of the total idea....Execution was very lacking with this setup as it just doesn't line up at all and +1 million with gaps/bonnet overbite drives me nuts.

See all of this is true except for the fact that it's a bolt-in cage, which MSNZ won't cover for a homologation card because in a motorsport situation they don't really do bugger-all anyway, they are utterly compromised by the fact that they bolt together instead of being welded.

That is true, I got mixed up between bolt in and half cages....it's been a while since I went through that whole process. Gawd the amount of paperwork etc to suss out was a mission haha

  5. Getting it legal for the road is also alot more difficult, normal certification process does not apply. You need to go through MSNZ, become a motorsportclub member etc then once you have all the documentaton + proving froma reputable builder who built the cage (prebuilt overseas ones as your trademe ones are pretty much nigh impossible to legalise in NZ as you have to prove what the metal is etc etc)..before you even get your car back on the road. I went through this whole process on my track car, however my builder was able to ensure he all the supporting photos of welds/details to send off which made life a boat load easier.

...reason for difficulty, as above without the other supporting racing equipment you will come off worse in a road crash and really the rules are designed for those that want to travel from and to events in their race car. Cages are designed to take high impact hits and be the last line of defence in a serious crash, if your head hits a bar without a helmet it is bye bye head...it hurts enough just accidently hitting your head on a bar when you get into a caged car haha.

Also makes you a massive pull me over target and if not up to spec with MSNZ licence and alike then you will get hammered with fines/get stickered.

Best bet is find a good reputable cage builder, discuss with them what you want, your goals etc and then go from there. They will recommend a design that will get through certification/MSNZ rules and will ensure you know exactly what needs to be done.

  6. Sorry to hear mate, is a bloody nice red as I think I drove by you on the southern motorway a few weeks back (u were pulled over to the side) when I read this I went out and moved my wrx into the garage this morning. Hope you get it back in good knick, know the feeling as had my first wrx stolen a week after I finally bought it. Will keep an eye out, only saw it a

  7. These arguments seem to go on forever, IMO if you stick with quality parts then there is no issues..Was a few articles around on cheaper vs quality FMIC, and some differences were found however unless you doing a 300kw+ monster/track setup then those minor difference are minimal. I have cheap FMIC trademe setup on my track car gc8 from years ago and that did 245kw atw no probs(never had an issue with the FMIC in 9 years also), build quality isn't nearly as good as my current greddy FMIC on the daily GDB but hey still did the trick nicely.
