  1. werent the 2.5L (non-sti) engines known for popping head gaskets on a regular basis?
  2. could get a simota filter. still good, but dry
  3. Had an oiled filter on my old Altezza, AFM ended up with a film of oily crap on it, and AFM failed until it was thoroughly cleaned.
  4. cant mix mineral and synthetic i believe, otherwise fine.
  5. get a boost gauge, run WG pressure. Eliminate one thing at a time, in this case id start with overboosting.
  6. Hole in airbox causing issue? Not likely.
  7. If its running wastegate pressure itll be running less boost than normal (around 7psi), so if it is hitting boost cut, it would cease to happen at WG pressure. If it still happens, its not boost cut.
  8. Just as a follow up, found my OBDII connector, was right in front of my face >_< Connected my cable (generic VAG OBDII cable from Dealextreme), fired up laptop, open EcuExplorer, told it to use Com1 as the port and BAM, found my ECU and connected. Had historic trouble codes logged, but nothing current. Reset ECU and took it for a drive, whilst data logging. God damn i love technology, data logging is awesome! Found that at idle O2 sensor fluctuates around 0.2V (0.20-0.30V) but thats about it. No matter what i do the sensor did not read above 0.35V, but did do large patches of reading the same value, and even went so far as to read 0-0.10V for huge periods of time. At WOT i got 0.25V. No trouble codes logged after the run. Looks like the O2 sensor has done its dash. But on the flip side, as i dont have a boost gauge, found im hitting 14-16PSI. Since resetting the ECU the car actually feels like its running better. Could just be a placebo though.
  9. id get a boost gauge on there ASAP and see how high its going. A good test would be to bypass the boost control system and run wastegate pressure, see if it still happens.
  10. Got a boost gauge installed? Whats the max boost its hitting?
  11. Nice, looks tidy. Big fan of those front lips on V3/4 <3 Type R
  12. AFM, plug condition/gap, coil, leads (if its wasted spark?), loose hose clamp...?
  13. Removed RPS axle back exhaust with 4" tip, fit standard factory STI axle back. Now i can drive without my ears hurting _b
  14. That's not my photo only an example. I found my plug, which is grey, just above the foot vent in drivers foot well on lh side against trans tunnel.
  15. There no "normal" ODBII connection under the dash, only has something similar to this, Its a blitz bov, vent to atmo but doesnt cause any idling issues. Other than the times as mentioned above the car is running very well.
  16. Hi V5 Type R, stock except axle back exhaust, BOV and simota panel filter. Occasionally, when cruising along at say 50ks, 4th gear, very light throttle the engine will hesitate, almost like it bogs down. If i keep trying to cruise itll start to pop and crackle out the exhaust, itll lose power and start to slow down. Only way to keep it going is if i give it a little more gas, and then it comes back to life like nothing happened. This morning i stopped at some lights just after it happened and noticed the idle was a bit higher than usual too (about 1100, normal is 750ish). Its only happened a couple of times, but its bit of a bother and im concerned itll get worse. Ive done some reading up and people are talking about a front O2 sensor causing similar issues? Any ideas on how to test this? Apparently its had the AFM replaced semi-recently, but i wouldnt rule it out i guess. Its not throwing any CEL, and tbh im not sure how to check codes on a V5 (only checked on legacies in the past), had a nosy and didnt see any green plugs staring back at me. Sadly it doesnt appear to be OBDII so my cable is useless. Edit: oh and not sure if relevant, but some times when decelerating i get some nice pops and crackles (or bangs) from the exhaust. Not sure if its running rich or something. Not complaining as its awesome, but might indicate another symptom.
  17. Its pretty well known by Welly members from what im seeing, but heres my latest acquisition. DSC04681 by KwS09, on Flickr

    V7 STI seats in coupe

guess its a technicality that often gets overlooked (if the seat does indeed change the relationship)? It'd be the same deal in all the other GC/GFs with airbags and V7 seats fitted.

    V7 STI seats in coupe

According to the VIRM a cert isnt required if, So the V7 Sti seats will bolt straight in, no modification required, and recline happily? Hell, having a quick nosy of the Virm i cant even see any mention at all of a seat having to recline?

    V7 STI seats in coupe

I have airbags, didn't even realise they would cause an issue. Damn...
  22. Just throwing some ideas around ATM. My V5 Type R coupes got a worn and very average drivers seat, on top of that i'd like something thats a bit "wider" for my fat arse. I think a V7 STI seat would be good, and ideally to make it better id have to have both front seats the same. What i want to know, is can i do this in a coupe? I havent had a play with V7 seats and dont know if they have any ability at all to recline? Can rails be swapped over or something to make at least the passengers one recline? My understanding is that if there is back seats, they must be accessible (ie front seats must recline), but does it have to be from both sides of the car?
  23. Shit, i'd get a scooter or something if i only lived 4 ks from work... wouldnt bother driving!
  24. Replaced my blown headlight bulb.... god my life is exciting.
  25. drove it, blew a headlight bulb... just the usual.
