  1. edit - oh, and providing you don't hold it on the rev limiter in third for too long ( ) it tows just fine. my sea nymph is a heavy old girl, and the car comfortably takes four of us and a fully loaded boat an hour up the road........ double edit and hijack - nice avenger joker !! spent most of the late seventies / early eighties lusting my dads mates tiger......
  2. didn't add anything, i just like the photo 8)
  3. oh dear. that be the proof (derivation) for the rotational inertia of a hollow sphere and wheels, dear boy, are definitely not spherical..... ;D ;D ;D
  4. don't sand too hard - or you'll end up with a flat spot after paint. gently feather the edges out with 600 / 1000 grit wet and dry. you need to use a primer, spraying several coats. sand gently after each one. the idea is that as you add coats of primer and sand back, you are slowly building the scratched area back up to the level of your topcoat. once you're happy with the build up then add a couple of coats of colour, feather that in, buff out with a cutting compound and crack open a beer.... it takes days to do it properly with ratlle cans......
  5. yeah, that was my train of thought ;D will clear the code and treat her with a little more sympathy. thanks for the help and amusement all !!
  6. got time to post a detailed reply now !! a) i posted the original "story" (we'll call it that for legal reasons) to raise a smile but also to explain just how hard the motor was working when it chucked the codes b) dunno how much the boat wieghs, its a 70's glass sea-nymph on a solid 70's trailer so its a lot... all i know is that it's right on the limit for being an unbraked trailer c) i checked the secondary bov about a month ago when i had the last 66 (traced to a faulty tps) and it seemd fine, but t'is an easy job so i'll do it again d) i'm not sure i want to re-create the conditions that caused it, can;t be good for the motor the car has a hard enough life as it is... joker - we're you pulling my leg about downhill ??
  7. the cel light has gone and not come back, and the car appears ok, wondering if the combination of a huge load and holding it at such high revs led to the 66 ???
  8. oh, and cheers joker, that's why it's entilted "stupid question"
  9. oh yes, i *hypothetically* may have done some, or none of this, or bits of it, or all of it... still a wee bit worried about the 66....
  10. edit !! i put a huge amount of load on my motor, it chucked a 66 ;D
  11. well there ya go, the lads username on trademe was drunkmonkey
  12. well, in the last three months, and with a stack of help from various clubsub members i've gone from this..... to this.... it's a fairly spectacular list of thing sthat i've replaced - new engine, manual conversion, new exhaust system (i think from drunkenmonkey), stacks of interior trim, headlights, umpteen little bulbs, everything else electrical that didn't work, stereo, discs and pads all round, an ac control unit with nicer buttons and a nice new grill off trademe.... $4000 later it drives superbly, and the manual conversion makes such a difference - safe to say i'm well happy ;D
  13. scratch that, google to the rescue !!
  14. just about to check the coil packs and do the plugs - how do i tell which coil pack goes to which connector on a 95 gt ??
  15. yes it was, but on a bg5 - there's an excellent write up on the net on how to do a bc5 - the wiring is easy enough if you can use a multimeter, heat shrink and soldering iron and you casn follow a wiring diagram !!
  16. nope, not got that bracket ?? can you describe it a bit better please ??
  17. p.s gaz -the motor spluttered into a ten second burble tonight - shut it off cos it's dark out, will give it a better go tomorrow ;o)
  18. an update , the reverse lights come on in reverse (complete with that bloody japanese auto beep - surely the fact that you're going backwards is enough of a hint!!!) - new manual switch in and wired up. thanks for the help !!!
  19. sorry about the whole keep asking questions and never giving back my BG5 motor swap/ manual conversion burbled into a smokey ten second start tonight. latest question (wiring now all good now) is where does a manual exhaust manifold support itself ?? my auto manifold / y- pipe had brackets that hooked up to rubbers on the auto gearbox crossmember - one had rusted out and the other needed sawing off to get the manifold round the manual gearbox front crossmember. so, my question is, can it dangle freely, do i need to support it (i'm thinking jumbo hose clip ;D) or do i need to source a manual y - bit ?? thanks, andy
  20. sorted brown yellow and balck yellow is reverse, the other two must be neutral, reckon the switch is at fault, so when it stops rainig i'll pull the switch out and start from there
  21. got continuity on reverse - starting to clean connectirs on neutral - thankls all !!
  22. speedo it is !! thanks - next, when testing for continuity for revrse and neutral switches am i testing for continuity between the wires ior continuity between the wires and earth cos i'm not getting any continuity between the wires !!
  23. sounds like it is the speed sensor !! cdoming form the drivers side... box is off a 97 gt
