  1. He he yeah with that in mind whats the advantage of race bearings? nil? go the single turbo
  2. yeah run forgies if your gunning for numbers but if your running standard boost etc you may as well go standard.
  3. since last time ive got my engine back and decided to rebuild the (heads got them too) then decided that the # grand engine was too good to put back into that wagon. So I went looking for a early bc5 like my old one But the trade me gods were not smiling on the early pre facelist models , plenty of nails but nothing tidy enough until.... I wasnt really looking for a facelift model but this one looked tidy nz new 200k pretty standard so i went down to morrinsville and ended up buying it. The plan was to bung the new motor in and run it in on standard ancilliries before a turbo injector fuel pump etc.. upgrade and put the rs motor into the wag but the rs is a sweetie and id rather have a spare closed deck block for when (not if) the tt lunches itself. So the wagon is sold ( cheers jase! ) and im savin me pennies for sexy boost and sexy fuel. also third gear syncro is a bit slack and il be locking the diff up so any ideas on what a g/box refreshen would cost? Also do ya think Reubens sti ecu and afm injector swap would apply here? or should i get the standard ecu reflashed? I was planning on getting the torque performance reflash after the mods any thoughts? The parts came back from West auckland engine reconditioners so clean!
  4. Hi everyone just thought id post some pics of my tt leg build. About 2 weeks ago i had a sustained high boost / high revs moment (momentsssssss...) on my week old tt wagon. Thought it sounded like a loose side skirt or something untill I gave the throttle a blip and AH the all too famillar sound of slap happy bearing! limped it home minimum revs but maximum noise! Rope towed it down the rd about a km or so ( cheers Ropata ) to my mates house with a lovely 2 post hoist ( cheers the Daneish!) and whipped the gearbox off then constucted my engine removal pallet racking special ( pics when my digi cam decides to behave) and flicked out the motor. not too bad considerig it was its first removal 2 exhaust bolts met the cut off disc but everything was pretty good. After constructing gudgeon removal tool version 4.0 ( allen key welded to a long bolt with big washer on the end and a sledge hammer head for slide hammery action) I discovered that #3 big end had mashed itself onto the crank. Mains didnt look too bad but the other 3 big ends were toasted. After a degreseing that would make oil barrons lick thier lips (12 cans of degreaser! cheers $2 supacheap!) I took the pistons, rods, crank and pully , and the 2 halves of the block to West Auckland engine reconditioners . I found them very friedly with A1 service so far I can reccomend them 100%. Eric reckoned it was prudent to deck the block as the open deck block can get a bit twisty. They mesured the bore to piston clearance and said that was fine but one of the rods was too toasted to be machined. So I found 4 sti rods on trademe for $30! already hot tanked and in good nick so they went down yesterday and im eagerly awaiting the progress! Reco heads on trademe are lookin good and im gagging to get it in there and then start with the single turbo conversion! Hey any advice on head gasket sorces? good prices? ive got new cam seals and ive seen a oring kit with other gaskets http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=334320806 what about rocker cover gaskets? Il post more pics when i get my digi cam sorted and let ya know how its going at the machine shop. Cheers
