  1. I think most things have already been covered here by previous posters, but yes do get some decent tyres, Check those rear swar bar links as I have heard they break and that would probably cause massive understeer. Whitline do aftermarket alloy links as do a few other performance parts dealers. In my experience with GC/GF imprexas they seem to do understeer really well from the factory, I usually put a whiteline adjustable rear sway bar on the back and do it up to its stiffest setting which really makes it more neutral rather than oversteer. Most cars come from the factory with understeer built in because most I got my license from a weetbix box drivers dont know what to do in oversteer condiions. Also get your wheel alignment checked as this can induce understeer if wrong
  2. I have actually contacted the NZTA and hope to hear back soon, will keep you posted on what they say, but from when my friend worked in the vehicle compliance area he told me this information, Even pointed me to the correct info in the virm and armed with this I told the WOf place I originally went to they were a bunch of cocks. went elsewhere and have never had a problem. A lot of issues come down to misinterpretation :-) Also said WOF places reasoning was that if they gave me a WOF and then I put seats back in and someone died in my car they would be held liable - pretty sure the WOF system is just a snapshot of the vehicles condition at time of inspection, If I add an ejector seat after I get my WOf it is not the WOF issuers problem, and the legality of the vehicle is the owners issue between WOFs.
  3. The authority card (which is required to use a caged car on public roads) is only valid for what is stated on the card, So mine reads: Homologated roll protection structure, Seats, harnesses. It also has a low volume cert for ABS and airbag removal, Hydraulic handbrake and adjustable suspension. Nothing about a 2 seater nor has it ever been registered as one.
  4. How does filling out a form make your car a 2 door? If it's the car in the picture I still see four doors lol
  5. I don't really want to have to Weld up the rear doors, Seems like far too much work.
  6. I have a Gc8 Rally car, Rear seats and seat belts are removed - It has not been registered as a 2 seater, there are Roll bars in the rear so seats/belts are impractical. I have passed a WOF numerous times at VTNZ - This also applies to the FXGT rally car I used to own. Your reasoning suggests that I should reinstall the rear seats and belts to make the vehicle comply As far as the VIRM says the only mandatory equipment is a drivers seat as far as seats go. These items are not required to be checked if not present
  7. If you have one you have to have the other, I.e if seatbelts are present you need seats, if seats are present you need seatbelts. There is no need to remove the belt holes as far as I am aware. You will find though that some WOF guys will misinterpret what is written in the rule book, I had this issue with one place in my rally car, The guy tried to tell me I had to register it as a 2 seater which is utter B/S, Even when I produced the evidence directly from a mate that worked at NZTA compliance he still wouldnt listen, easiest solution was to go elsewhere.
  8. A baffled sump is cheaper than an engine rebuild IMO
  9. Yep, mine too, Trying to sort our heights etc so I can figure out if my new gravel suspension is a dud and wether or not it's going back to the supplier. My wifes stock GF8 impreza is 380mm Front 370mm Rear but I'm thinking the STi is slightly different. Problem is my new suspension seem way too high at its lowest level at the front (380mm) and it's supposed to be + or - 30mm from standard ride height, Unfortunately my car did not come with standard suspension which is why I am having trouble, Apparently if it too hight the car will be twitchy at higher speeds
  10. Yes, that is what I meant, Centre of wheel to top of guard for front and rear :-)
  11. Hi there, Is anyone able to tell me what the standard height for a version 6 sti? If you do have stock suspension (Im guessing all STi's should have the same ride height) could you measure from centre of wheel to the guard front and rear and post here please? Any GC8 impreza info would be greatly appreciated, I have seen a lot of different figures talked about over the net and want to confirm what it actually is with some real measurements cheers.
  12. Usually the tail light seals leak after a while, But with my old GC8 Sedan I found that where we used to park it (On a steep driveway facing downhill) when we had heavy rain the water would accumulate and flow over the boot lid seals and into the boot, Fixed it by buying a Gf8
  13. Seemed to work well, Thanks for the advice
  14. The Speed Sensor Wire, needs to "Bypass" through your new toy. Correct, Pin 26 on Plug 135 (grey-middle plug). Bottom corner pin, closest to the Blue? Plug. Count the Pins either side to make sure you have the right corner Pin. (3 pins on side and 4 pins on the other.) Cut the Speed Wire (green/black I think), about 100-150mm from you ECU. One of your Monit Wires will solder to the ECU end of the Cut Speed Wire, the other Monit wire will solder to the Engine Loom end of the cut Speed Wire. The Diagram your using is looking at the ECU Pins, I count the Pins either side of the Plugs Centre Hole. 3 on one side 4 on the other. OK, the monit instructions say its connected in parallel rather than in series like you said? Are you sure that is correct? So one wire goes to GND and the other to the speed sensor wire according to them OK, so I found the installation guide for the apexi rsm and it is really handy for what I need, Even shows you what pins and which way to look at them etc... So it looks like I was correct in plug 135 pin 26 but the gnd I need in plug 134 pin 8, According to the guide its the pins as you look at them while holding the ECU (as you said) Now im off to see if I can start an electrical fire lol
  15. So I am trying to hook my Monit Tripmeter into the rally car, I have the plug in speed sensor interface wiring thing but I need to connect the 2 wires to the speed sensor wiring, Now I have found the following ECU Pinouts page http://www.jollygreenmonster.com/help.htm And if you look at ECU pinouts and scroll down my car would be the 99-00 Impreza (Version 6 STi) So are these diagrams of the actual ECU or looking at the plugs that plug into the ECU? Im guessing I need to connect to B135 pin 26 and a ground somewhere with the other wire? Maybe B134 pin 17? Thanks in advance
