  1. Off topic but: How long have you worked there? I am always poping in grabbing bits and pieces for the car.
  2. Yeah was a little dusty afterwards. Having a standard airbox helps tho Sounds like the car is about to blow up but its just the Bikes reving in the background. Car is running mint! Was at the end of a mates runway and did heaps of damage to the grass hahaha Would love to have a big grasskana at some point but its hard finding a suitable paddock
  3. Did some paddock bashing on the weekend.
  4. As far as I know there is no such thing. Some of the models got the new Xenon headlights but thats about it. Also there is no difference between the NZ new's and the Japanese spec car's, NZ got the Jap ones with all the option boxes ticked! The facelift could just be the slightly different front grill.
  5. I am in a similar boat as above. 21 Year old with full insurance on a V4 STI RA and it is costing me $780 a year. Thats through parents company who use a broker and would pay in excess of $100k a year in insurance. Think the insurance company is Allianz
  6. Yeah good point, my V4 also had to have a little of the pipe bent back, but no where near as much as the one in the Photo
  7. You may have to "squash" or bend the wastegate pipe to fit around the steering linkage depending on the type of down pipe, I know that this has had to happen on both my V7 Sti and V4 Sti when fitting a Siamese down pipe. Eg this below:
  8. Yup is typically loud with piston slap at start up but it goes away once it has warmed up. Just wasn't sure about the whole smoke thing 8)
  9. Ahh Cool thats a bit of a relief! Was concerned I would have to spend more money pulling the engine out
  10. turn mute on - Spanish commentary has been dubbed over with silly opera?!? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--pWnS_h2g8&feature=related This one is better. Has engine sound as well!!!
  11. Have had my car a little while now, and every now and then it gives a little puff of smoke on startup. Not everytime but enough that I notice it. Now the car has forged pistons and I have heard a lot of talk about car's with forged pistons doing this and understand the logic behind it eg pistons shrink when cold oil drips through then they expand when engine warms up. Car has just been tuned and this has made no difference Does this sound right? Or are my rings worn and on the way out causing the oil the seep through, engine has only done 20tho k's but no doubt a lot of those would have been hard driving is this kind of thing common? Anyone else having the same problem, a few of the previous threads make me think I might not be the only one
  12. Picked up car from Garry Capper. All tuned and ready to run. Gained 25 odd Kw's and have substantially improved fuel economy. Very Happy with it so far
  13. Saw this on trademe but missed out on winning auction. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=274047872 Anyone used/using one of these? Ease of installation? The main reason I wanted one was to get rid of all the bent fins on my current intercooler rather than any performance gains. Says he bought it from Redline anyone know if they still stock them? Cheers
  14. Removed the standard exhaust I had bolted onto my car yesterday and replaced it with the original 3 inch stupidly loud one. Reason: With a quiet exhaust I can hear all the bad/dodgy noises my car makes. eg. Gearbox wine, diff knocking random creaking etc.
  15. I presume it has been bored out to 2.2 not an original 2.2L block as that would make more sense. Thinking about sending it up to Speed Source to get it re-tune anyone dealt with these guys?
  16. Yup all just pop's off like talked about above, start with the gear surround plastic's and work your way up towards the stereo. Shouldn't need to unscrew the cup holder ones.
  17. Anyone know if this is a good turbo? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Subaru/Engines/auction-270193452.htm Cheers
  18. Is the engine run in properly? I personally wouldn't do any thrashing on it a 1000ks or untill you have changed out the running in oil
  19. Not 100% sure as I have to re-read receipts but does a closed deck short block sound right? Originally was planning on buying a Sti and rebuilding it but then found this for the same sort of money so thought why not, if it means I don't have to spend my rebuild money for another 40,000ks then all good. Yup was on trademe. Believe the car has some sort of history with the club. Think it was at a Christchurch track day according to the owner
  20. Haha yeah, its got a vf24 not sure where the td04 came from ;D Oh yup, yeah thats a good point, ideally I want to run relatively low boost. According to the dyno print out that came with the car its making 208kw's at the wheels on 14.5psi boost at the moment but not really to sure about that. Doesn't seem as fast as I thought it would be but that could be because the turbo spools up ridiculously early
  21. Hi guys Had this car for a month or so now so thought I should post something up! I have a large number of questions that I thought I might post on here: Car is 1998 V4 STi RA, have receipts for new engine, which is a 2.2L fully forged thing etc Question 1: What oil should I be running? Doing a change on sunday so thought I might scope out what opinions you guys have on different brands, types etc (had a look through the oil thread but didn't get much help) Also with this type of engine should I be running anything specific? anything to avoid? Question 2: The car desperately needs re-tuning its currently running really rich and idling quite high, running a Microtech ecu and hoping I can get it on the dyno within the next month Anyway wanting to put a bigger turbo on it as its just got the standard vf24 running 14.5Psi at the moment. What are my options with this in regards to this? Question 3: Comment from the previous owner was that the injectors were running at near full capacity, these are just the standard factory ones at the moment but what are my options to upgrade these? Are there any bigger/higher capacity suitable injectors on the earlyer models that would work? Or would I have to go aftermarket? Is there anything else that I need to upgrade or be aware of before I put it on the dyno? I am sure I have plenty of other questions but Ill post them up in due course Thanks Andrew
  22. I am pretty sure these are not legally binding in anyway, seem to remember my law lecture explaining something. Hoping there is someone on here with some proper contract law knowledge behind them to be able to yay or nay my previous comment. Either way its the thought that counts and enough to try and put off any previous or new owners trying to pull something
  23. Do these have any adverse affects? I have heard that they can make the car way more twitchy/jolty when driving on motorway, eg When you lift off the gas its much more noticeable than before. Never had them so would be interested if someone with them has noticed this?
  24. Yea just tied back what looks like a portion a some sort of wiring loom as the outside plastic cover of them had started melting. They look a little rough tho so thinking I might get replace them back to the standard ones
  25. I have aftermarket header's on my Sti, they arn't heat wrapped tho. Boost spools up pretty early as it is, is it worth heat wrapping them?
