Folks in the know say it is quite common in the 4th gen legacy. Apparently the starter gear not fully retracting in time. I'll try to pull it soon and clean/lube. 

Could be the belt is glazed and needs changing regardless.   Also could be an issue with the starter?

I snugged the PS belt on the OBXT....but it still makes this noise the first start up when it is cold. Not a peep again until the next cold weather/cold car start. Thoughts? A/C belt idler? Zero other symptoms.     

Doesn’t have to be a Subaru but what’s everyone running?   I'm adding canbus options to things and every brand has different options so need an idea of what’s worth doing first.  

Hey guys. Ive recently purchased a 98 gc8 wrx with a avs alarm an imobilizer. The vehicle has been broken into damaging the ignition and now the car wont start. Ive checked the fuses etc and i cant seam to sort. Any ideas or auto sparkys keen on a look in nelson. ?
