So I built a few canbus/car electronic projects… anyone got ideas for more?

Added a few options
letters. eg cant make v, m etc and x h k would all be the same.
Symbols like up and down arrows and a lightning bolt.
flash the whole display. Can be used with arrows to show when to shift gears.
Turn on or off the dot without changing the display, so can be used as error light. This is so the ecu can update dot with single message and if another function in the ecu has set the display they won’t the get cleared or mixed up.

Well I found out what happens if you apply 12v to a 5.4v input.
Magic smoke comes out and things die.
Nothing exploded but something liquified and came out of two chips. Though it smells far worse than it actually turned out to be.

Lucky the led controller and level shifter are only about usd$5 to replace. The level shifter is designed to protect the main microcontroller and it did its job.

A couple of led segments are now dim but they had 1 ohm resistors not 20 ohm like the rest. They were testing to see if lower values helped brightness. Given the change in brightness between 1 and 20 ohms is not noticeable I’ll go back to the 15-20 ohm values.

I've always hated those wheels but they were cheap after I nuked one of the 16in OZ racing wheels on the railway tracks leaving Reefton one time.
In those days we had a Legacy Brighton Wagon and I bought the alloys and Mag and Turbo chucked in some 16 in Legacy OEM wheels for that and included fitting.
the really wanted to get rid of them!
Even if I get bugger all for it it owes me nothing, I have thought about pulling it and selling it myself, NO I DON'T WANT TO SWAP YOUR PLAYSTATION AND A DOZEN BEERS! etc, etc.
