  1. Interesting, I run the twin scroll KillerB and haven't had any issues, maybe I need to drive faster!
  2. Nice! Any better/cheaper than the KillerB option? No excuse to not win events now
  3. I use an Aim Solo data logger which does GPS data logging. Quite handy! I normally hit about 1.5G at Manfeild, but that's driving a very smooth line into Higgins.
  4. NT01's, which were hot enough that they were leaving rubber on the road when I took it down the road to warm the tyres before the run... So plenty of grip combined with a nice sunny day! That and a bit of camber in the corners (hard to see on video) and a good dose of throwing it at the corner!
  5. Sunday drive (last Sunday) up a hill in the Wairarapa, shortest hillclimb I have ever done, but good fun. Pulled 1.7G in one of the corners which is the best I have ever done!
  6. Yup, notes make a difference to commitment, not so much for remembering the road, more for making sure you discuss which things to improve on and then follow through on it?
  7. Most hillclimb type events are. Much cheaper than track racing and better on the car as long as you keep it on the road.
  8. I think it was $100-120 to enter, and you just need a fire extinguisher, helmet and overalls and a race license, which is actually quite easy to get. One year I did that event in my E30 BMW road car on gravel tyres and I have raced my BG5 Legacy a number of times too. So anything goes... Don't flat shift and you will be fine That's also one reason to rev match on downshift...
  9. Brake boosting? Do you mean left foot braking? Yes, I left foot brake in some of the faster corners to get the weight transfer forward and so I don't have to spool turbo back up. I also heel toe on downshift, so you can hear that in some corners with the BOV going off twice. Not my tidiest work though I have to be honest, I probably was a bit rough in some of the middle sections. And that road marker I hit right near the finish took paint off the bumper and bonnet... And for some random stats. Under braking the car was pulling 1g and lateral g forces it peaked at 1.4g in one corner according to the GPS data logging. But only peaked at 150km/hr. Need a new motor as this one is down on compression...
  10. On Saturday went up to Dannevirke, saw Joker, did some hooning in the countryside. Even managed to get on to the podium, which was pretty cool. Video of the sprint::
  11. @loner Do you have toe in all round now? How do you find that turns in? Or is that to help with stability with all that power?
  12. Thanks for putting up all the detail. I take it this is for a road use only car? Did they make any suggestions for changes to use these on the track? Or did they suggest replacing springs to use on track as those spring rates are a bit soft for track I would assume?
  13. What sort of pad are you looking for? There is a lot of options depending on budget and application. I have been running Brembos for a few years and have tried a few different pads, as well as being able to get trade on some pads if you need help.
  14. Those S4's are a c*nt to work on. Timing belt is at the back of the motor..! They seem to have a rep for once they hit 100km, every piece of plastic in the engine bay is worn out and starts to fail. And to fix any sort of leak is almost an engine out job, at the very least a nosecone off job. Also have issues with carbon deposits in the intake, and leaking rocker covers. Prick of a car to work on. They also camber out badly when lowered. However very stealthy for a fast car. RS4 is much better car, completely different motor.
  15. Why bother asking for opinions if you then dismiss them out of hand?
  16. 22mm adjustable on GC8 here. Great fun, very easy to provoke sideways on stiffest setting on road tyres. Good for quick changes of direction. However will definitely make the car a bit twitchy on the limit. So personal preference really. How much of a fat slug is an 03 STI? It might need the bigger bar compared to a GC8?
  17. Will the car be ready for Port Rd? Would be a weapon there now!
  18. Jan last year, and I sucked horribly. Think I had some car issues with fuel surge. But also drove like a little bitch. So hoping to improve. And yes, won't be asking Geoff for advice at all! Got any advice yourself...?
  19. Thanks, reasonably tidy, but not really any grip left, you can hear the squeel in a couple of places. However the wide angle lense makes everything look straight too! Yeah my driving is getting better, but still plenty of room for improvement. Maybe we can compare at Port Rd...? 8th is ok, stoked to be so close to Jeff and Marty who have much better cars than me! Less than a second between 5th and 8th!
  20. Done it twice, 2009 in both directions on Targa, then 2011 just before Targa (last event before writing the Legacy off on Targa actually). So today was fun. Not as fast as I would like, but need more power if I am going to go well there, struggled to even get a good launch it's so slow. And I still don't like losing to people because their cars are fast. In saying that Andrew was stupidly fast in his Corolla, which is impressive for an N/A 1600! Couple of photos from today: And video:
  21. So you laugh at me saying get a cheap, reliable car. And in the same paragraph suggest he buy the car that is the oldest and has the worst engine/drivetrain combo in the Subaru range? Having raced a caged BC5 and 3x caged GC/F8s, the BC5 is more stable on gravel, but definitely more of a boat in general. And harder to find in tidy condition as generally everything is flogged to hell. The BC5 also comes with far worse brakes, suspension and wheels than say a V3/4 STi which is probably the best value for money Subaru option. If you are serious about racing, Honda is the value for money option. Subaru is the heart option. But your heart will bleed when you start to push the car and things go sour...
