Your quite right - in the trademe auction they looked a bit pink (hence you commenting on them being pink), but when they arrived they definately were more red.

To be honest, I dont like that they have STi written on them and its clearly not an STi. But they do suit the car in my opinion. Plus I need them for rallying anyway. Ohh and $67 was a damned good bargin

MINE! Cool, but they are pink, so would be best on a girls car. You didnt complain about them in the weekend Loren:
  4. Shred Industries have been around for probably about a year now? They mainly have worked on drift cars - specifically anything Nissan. As well as doing conversions, engine upgrades etc. But have been branching out from just Nissans lately. They have had a 2wd dyno for some time and have a bit of experience with tuning Link's etc. I believe there was talk recently of a dyno day there once they get the new dyno setup etc?
  5. I get 450km to a tank open road driving in my BG5 GTB. Thats about 45-50L of 98. Round town Im lucky to see 350. But Im pretty sure that the BG5 is the least fuel economic of all the Legacy range, as my other Legacy (BC5) uses less and is actually modified unlike the daily and Ive seen quite a few people with BHs quoting figures in the 9L/100km range, which the BG5 never seems to manage....
  6. Compared to a wreckers/importers - hell yes. However, its a GTB engine - they are notoriously unreliable (Ive killed one myself), so without having it checked out thoroughly and also having some form of warranty I would be wary. You could easily be buying a $900 paperweight if it pops a week after installing.
  7. Very very true. Im still a Nissan fan, but these days its not worth owning one round here - most of my mates who have owned Skylines have lost them via theft - rather than selling them. And yeah, that was my daily driver you saw me in.
  8. Ay, how does this relate to the topic? Im lost... TURTLE - Skylines used to be a nice and reasonably quick car that was good value for money. I paid 10k for my 32 GTSt coupe 6 years ago - now they are still worth the same, but you get a piece of cr*p for your money. And every 2nd one is sacked on cutties, with some stupid "drift" look paint job - either matt black/primer or two tone cr*p. Its a real shame and really puts me off ever owning one again. Ohh and dont get me started on the comments I used to get from little G-unit wannabe's at every set of lights - just cos I had a turbo rwd. So comparitively speaking, Subie ownership aint as bad as it could be But I do agree, there is an awful lot of chrome around on Subbies these days. Such a waste.
  9. You speak the truth. But I come from a Skyline owning background - and trust me, Skyline owners have it much worse! On a more positive note, those cheap cars are useful to people like me who use them for motorsport - cheap panels and gearboxes
  10. I love the rumble, but I also love the fact that I can buy a 13s car for $4k.... Not many other manufacturers offer anything with that value for money. Or that versatile. downsides, well do we really need to discuss them? I think we should all know them rather well by now.
  11. Name: Vivian Age: 26 Location: Wellington Occupation: Do telephony and IT stuff for a government department Subarus Owned/use to own: 4WD Justy RS, 89 BC5 RS, 98 BG5 GTB, 94 BC5 RS rally car Length of Subaru Ownership: about 5 years Other interesting facts: Im actually a guy. Alot of NZers seem to assume I will be a chick - but Vivian is actually a guys name where Im from, and Vivien/Vivienne/Viviene are the female spellings. I also like shooting things, competing in any car events I can and am also a member of the RSQKRU.
  12. Im not an expert, but I do agree with what Keltik has said - there is a number of specific reasons as he has mentioned and it regularly seems to come down to remembering that Subarus are simply a bit more sensitive in this area compared to other performance cars. Nothing that cant be prevented by buying a car thats healthy (ie do thorough checks prior to purchase, not just a VIR or similar) and then maintaining the car properly and respecting these well known issues when raping the car.
  13. I use Elf Competition SM 10w40 in both my GTB and my BC5 RS and am quite happy with it. No tappet noises from either of them (factory heads). I used Elf initially because a friend at Subaru checked what STi recommend in Japan - Elf Competition. I have also since found that a number of people in the production racing series in NZ swear by it - and thats about the best place I can think of to test out the factory engine as they are very restricted on what parts they can change on the engine. As with rallying you can change alot of the engine internals even in Group N. EDIT - heres a previous thread on oil for comparison: http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php?topic=628.0
  14. How bad is it on gas? If I remember correctly when I was looking at upgrading from my GTB I looked at one of these and it was the only car on the list of cars to compare (which included BP5 Legacy, 540i and an Evo 7) that actually had worse fuel consumption than my GTB. But I guess I want to know - in the real world, are they actually that bad on gas?
  15. Very very nice, somewhat similar to my car - just lots tidier! Definately post up more pics
  16. I would have come, but unfortunately my co-driver has pursuaded me to spend my money/time on doing gravel events - so Ive just spent alot of money getting the car ready for that instead However, at least I now have lots of rally tyres
  17. Absolutely agree. This is the best combination to start with. As far as choosing pads, go with the recommendation of someone you trust. Not what people say on the internet. Talk to people who work on and/or own Rally/Race cars and find out what they use and why. And then make an informed decision. Remember that alot of the opinions you are hearing here are from very different setups, some people are using road tyres on the track and in some cases driving road cars. These setups will behave differently from someone using semi slicks on their road car at the track, and different again from someone on semi slicks/full slicks on a race car... My 2c.
  18. You guys seem to be getting a heck of a lot of smoke when using the handbrake and/or accelerating out of the corners on the gymkhana.... Is it a case of no ABS and sh*t tyres? Or is the surface that greasy or is there something I missed? Im curious as I find even my car almost never smokes up with road tyres, semi slicks or rally tyres on tarseal.
  19. I dont want to ask how that can happen! Im scared!
  20. Nope, lacking in womanly looks and boobies... So doesnt really do it for me sorry.
  21. I take it you have caged your car and are familiar with Rallysprint regs? Ie that the car is to be setup as per Schedule RS - Rallysprint regulations and Schedule R - Rally regulations (http://www.motorsport.org.nz/Pdf/LiveMM33%20Book3%20App3%20SchRS.pdf). As you may find thats the first hurdle if you dont have a cage, 2 seats, 2kg+ extinguisher, Zedka, First Aid kit and mudflaps. However, if your just entering gravel sprints they dont require a cage normally. Im not an expert on gravel at all - I would recommend if your going to do it properly that the names DMS, Bilstein, Exetec, Ohlins or similar maybe a good starting point. Ohh and a 5 figure budget. Depending on where you are in NZ there is plenty of places that can recommend a decent brand and help with setup. However, if you are entering gravel sprints - then I would suggest stock suspension would be better, a combination of ground clearance and the ability to absorb alot of the surface changes would make them better suited. I know someone running GTB Bilsteins (rebuilt) in his RS Legacy at gravel sprints and that seems to work ok (Ive spent a bit of the time in that car and it seems to handle fine too on gravel).
  22. F*ck, have you met him? I wouldnt have him... Just Joking Jared - your just not my thing sorry, something about lacking womanly qualities.
  23. I second this - theres no substitute for practice and theres one or two people down this way who prove this time and again (Some who appear on here occasionally too) - learning to drive your car as it is now is going to teach you alot, as well as save you money. Wish I could say I have done this - maybe one day I will learn
