wow, i take my comment back. after actually reading the page (my bad) and a closer look... yeah somethings not right there. none of the front 1/4 panels line up properly, neither does the bumper or grill. yuck
cranking 16pound is a bad re-terming for 16 psi boost.
as opposed to 16psi absolute, which would be about 1.3psi boost.
its the pressure, above normal air pressure, being created by your turbo. psi, pound, same thing, different names.
its like calling an altezza a lexus. essentially the same, ones just a little more, i dano, posh.
if you leave the engine alone, using all the ecu controls etc then im aware it is unlikely to pop. if you start getting into boost controllers etc you should be fine. thing with a 2.2 swap is an increase in capacity, requiring a certification, and increasing insurance as its a modified car... if you swapped in a 2 litre or 1.8 you would be fine, i think

yeah, old ecu untunable by opensource. and fluctuating boost.... keen to get an ebc. question... running an aftermarket controller, is there any gain in taking out the restrictor pill?
im using a bleed valve as i dont have the spare coin for an ebc... i hate it. iv got it nicely set for one person in the car..... any variables i hit fuel cut. any extras in the car, high humidity, steep hills.... bleed valves are NASTY!!!!!!!!
cheep depends on what you want done. secondary map trigger? for that sort of thing im sure you would have to go aftermarket.
reliable? well, your car has started on the stock ecu how many times? all it does is move a few figures around (basically) so, it would be just as reliable as stock.
iv been using rom raider with some good results. mostly with an 03 sti, squeezed some 15kw just in map smoothing. more when you wind up the boost etc. gives more control back to the ecu, so you arnt relying on a boost controller.
hey guys and gals, im looking for someone who wants a cheep tune in a 01 or newer wrx/sti in auckland. something simple, upping boost, smoothing fuel maps, if using car for track use, i can also move your speed limiter around.
anyone keen?
need a cable, im happy to have a nosey around. you pay for cable, ill do tune for free
are you in auckland?
edit: aahh see ur down south somewhere. scratch that...
main thing you would want to look at is your fuelling maps and boost level. wastegate duty isnt to hard either. plus theres the bonus of speed limiter removal for track use, etc etc.
as far as tuning goes, if the car isnt canbus system, a vag com cable from ebay or similar will do the trick. cant gaurentee itll flash tho. easiest system iv ever used for a tune.
its canbus system aye? www.tactrix.com for the cable,
www.romraider.com for a free open source tuning program.
very easy to use, no need for an ebc. wind up the boost and adjust fuelling maps, without needing to pop the bonnet.
if you are going to do something, at least do it right... 2 seat the thing. id bite at that.... but as it is, its hideous. mind you, its already certed as a ute..... project anyone?
