  1. K, So I went and got myself a 2002 TS-R for work. Didn't want a turbo as the extra 1.2l/100k adds up pretty quick when you clock 65,000k's a year. But how could I make it a little perkier or more powerful? Just seems a little weak on the hills, but everwhere else is fine.
  2. Ah, I'll try that. Coming out my centre console I've got two wires (one slightly bigger than the other) going to the plug with two pins. Will check the carpet in daylight. Cheers
  3. Tried to install a band expander to my 2002 legacy but it has a funny arial input. Kinda like 2 tiny prongs on a round plug. Obviously my expander didnt fit so I took it back. Does anyone know the type of plug I mean and where I could get an expander? Chur I need the B in my work car!
  4. Did all the red paint chip off the manifold during removal or when the conrod wanted out the block? I've done two in my "84 vauxhal (read holden) astra 1.3 both due to high revs. Dropped a replacement engine in the blew the second within weeks and got a warranty. It was also the only car I had stolen. Was dumped 100m from my house. I guess the theives weren't too impressed with the dakka dakka dakka dakka dakka sound from the engine bay
  5. 1000km and two tanks of gas, work, surfing, work and home. Warkworth, whangarei, tauranga, hams, te aroha, tarwharanui, warkworth
  6. So just heat the bugger up then bash it like a madman.
  7. Whats the best tip for getting the old factory ones out?
  8. ditto. Did the genuine route when i did my leaky oil pump last year. Not a drop since (except the sump bolt, cos I banged it on a rock) Just to rub it in
  9. VTNZ albany. Was checking all the vac lines from the wastegate etc. And this is a stock, usually muddy foz too, not the usual slammed 20inch rimmed variety.
  10. Spose not, it's just a coil with a bit of metal inside. I was thinking more of like a motor. Thought it was wof things as the guys pulled up floor mats to check ecu cables for links/iebc's once before
  11. I thought wrx's boosted higher? my td04 in the foz is pulling 0.92 bar (13.5psi) at the top of 4th gear regulary and normally with 12psi at 3500rpm?
  12. but wouldn't the resistance change under normal use so the ecu will get confused and throw a CEL? If not then easy as. And the WOF guy's probably won't notice
  13. That's what i was thinking as a resistor might play with mapping and fuel ratios etc. I've got a second solenoid to stick under the bonnet. BTW it's a jay-car programmable one, so I'll keep you posted on the progress once installed. It's been in the desk drawer for 6 months. Now I've got a work car I can start playing with the foz again
  14. I've really considered manufacturing 007 style flip up plates. Had a work mate with one on his gsxr1100. 170mph everyday on his way to work!
  15. This worked for a friend of mine more than once. his license is more important than the fines. And this is all in his work truck. If you were driving fast and there was no one around to see it we're you speeding? Time and place for everything. my only ticket, 74 in temp 50 on SH1 when they were digging tunnels. Cop said "top of the hill behind the bush is a 50 sign, it's not an 80 anymore"
  16. When installing IEBC what to do with factory solenoid? If I unplug the factory cables the engine won't run (obviously). So the question is.. 1/ Do I use a second solenoid with IEBC and just unplug hoses from original? 2/ Do I use a resistor in place of the original to trick ecu and then run IEBC to factory solenoid? Ideas? Chur
  17. Isn't all rally and motorsport a marketing exercise?
  18. Now this is the most ultimate unsuspecting sleeper
  19. My mate pulled over a Honda last week, with NOS bottles on the parcel shelf, brand new custom interior, 19's etc. He asked 'do you have the cet for the NOS?" 'no officer it's not plumbed in" So turns out it's got a stock 1600 vtec, untouched not even a type R. My mate told hom that his Hyundai has more power and the owner replied 'it's all about the looks ay" After chatting, he admitted he's spent $15k on dressing up his car but nothing on brakes or power. Audi RS4, the ultimate sleeper for me!
  20. If you have to ask, then you know the answer. Parts are cheap, but it's pretty involved if you've not done a CV before. Other than that it's straight forward.
  21. +1 for nuclear. Only ignorance breeds fear. about $150 a month for 3bed house 2 living rooms, 4 adults. It's easy to work out what you use by looking at the labels and figuring how long it's on. My Flatmate had his heater on for all of June so I showed him that a 2Kw heater for 12 hrs a day was using 720Kw that month. Which was half the bill. No arguments there.
  22. Exactly the attitude that gets bits of kiwis smeared across the road in record numbers each year. The "been driving since 15 no lessons, written off 5+ cars but none were my fault, use my cell phone in one hand with a beer in the other, seat so laid back i can't see over the wheel, and I'm a meeeean as driver" special that I see so many of each day (well without the beer-sometimes)
  23. Cell phone ban is just an attitiude thing, people will get used to it just like wearing seat belts or not smoking in pubs. And it's a good move as often I'm driving around thinking 'man that guy must be boozed upto the eyeballs with the way he's swerving around' only to find they're txting someone. Anyway gotta go i'm on the blackberry and a tricky roundabout's coming up
  24. But so does talking to passengers? There's no real harm into just talking into space. At the moment my phone defaults to speaker phone in the car so it lives in the centre console and i just turn the stereo down. Just trying to get work to pay for my new bluetooth stereo so it's integrated to voice dial and sound through speakers etc.
  25. My old man used to always have mercs and bmers, but then test drove an is200 did around 500m and could tell it was a better handling car than all the others mentioned traded his 5 series for it. Moved onto another 200, then the 250, but the ISF was a dog so he moved over to the XF. The truth is that the Japanese have moved a long way whilst others get lazy. Since the late 90's Mercs have become unreliable and of poor build. Loosing many customer review surveys etc. On a tangent I heard a story through the grapevine from a marshal at Puke that at a recent track day a youngster crashed his mums 2 day old ISF into the wall, and he hadn't even told her he'd borrowed it lol
