  1. 4th generation up is twin scroll (2004 up)
  2. Could be engine/gearbox mounts
  3. Try this, when you start it from cold (from sitting overnite), if its the clutch throw out bearing it's usually noisier from cold when you push the pedal in.Other than that have it checked out by a specialist subaru reparier.
  4. Could be the clutch throw out bearing, how many K's has it done?
  5. It happens when you thrash subaru's,(and people love to floor it in 1st & 2nd on turbo engines) mine has a slight wine in second, but nothing to worry about just yet.Once the case hardening of the gears wears (the gear loses its shape), it's really time for a rebuild.
  6. Sounds like lower ball joints or CV for the steering clunk.
  7. Your car is about explode, I'll give you $500 for it
  8. The service guys just crack the turbo oil feed(just before the turbo)to check for oil flow.
  9. Might be cheaper to just buy a used import engine.
  10. It makes the syncros stick, ie not seperate from metal contact, depends what sort of unsuitable oil is put in .
  11. If the wrong oil has been put in, it only takes <1000kms for the syncros to wear in subi boxes. How many home mechanics have done this, then found this out and put the correct oil in, but its to late?
  12. Its pretty simple when selling a car private, payment in cash, never accept personal cheques (a few people still use them these days), even a bank cheque(they can be cancelled).Test drives, ask to see drivers licence, always go with them, get the key back before you get out of the car.CHANGE THE OWNERSHIP OVER BEFORE THEY TAKE THE CAR, A piece of paper signed by both parties with time and date is worthless. no if's or but's, do it on the internet, if it cant be done at post shop etc, the buyer will just have to come back when it is done.A buyer has no comeback if something goes wrong, "caveat emptor" applies (buyer beware), its up to them check the car and make a decision.
  13. How are the sensors modded, or is that a secret?
  14. 2004 legacy, this banjo bolt looks impossible to get to,without either removing engine mount or the turbo .Anyone on here done this on 2004 like to share how its done please? I would like to check the filter just for peace of mind.I dont understand why subaru made it so inaccessible if it is to be checked on a regular basis.
  15. Japenese radiators fail after only a few years, you can put a hose through it and plenty of water will flow through, but it could be 50% blocked.I had a similar problem to this, air was getting in the system causing a air lock, it turned out to be a hairline crack in the block,A bottle of Goss chem weld fixed it.
  16. Ohh ok my eyes must have been seeing things then, anyway you go spend $$$ on that subaru rip stuff, and I'll keep using caltex. HaHaHa, its people like you that make subaru dealers rich ;D If only people knew.If you expect a can of cleaner to clean all the carbon off valves with a 30min dose, you are wrong.Caltex had its cleaning ability put to the test by BMW engine testers, they could not believe the results, they had seen nothing like it before.

  18. So the subaru branded oil is castrol , or do dealers just stock castrol?
  19. Or you could just use caltex fuel, the techron does actually clean all the carbon off the valves, I can vouch for it after doing a head gasket change at 200,000kms of which the last 90,000kms only caltex fuel was run, valves were spotless.
  20. Hi all, looking at getting a legacy B4 twin turbo manual, what are the common faults to look for, besides CV joints and clutch. Cheers.
  21. Thats because the cam buckets are very wear resistant, all the wear is in the cams.I've torn down engines with 300,000kms, and the buckets show no sign of wear, but the camshafts are shot. ohh and I use valvoline dura blend semi 5-30w, I wont use any castrol engine oils after the full synthetic fiasco . What brand of oil does a subaru dealer supply?
