  1. What burning program(s) have you used? There were a few really good dvd copy programs around
  2. One word to help you: Shale You will find her lurking on IRC or something but AFAIK she is cleaning queen
  3. If you want to do it yourself more than happy to help, put a new block in car and cams was part of that What you may need to do though once the cams are in is get the valve shims shaved so that they are at the right clearances. Once again, where abouts in Auck are you?
  4. Have you tried places like strong subaru (Bits for Subaru) or trademe? Best bet first
  5. I know this is an old thread and sorry for digging it up but I dont have the factory and I have tried everything I can think of to get this to work.. I read somewhere that if you dont have the factory key fob then just earth the disarm wire which is in the drivers kick panel. I have googled and everything and cant for the life of me figure out (noob) what the kick panel is and I definitely cant find the wire. I really do want to get this going its such a sweet feature! Thanks for any help guys! All else fails I just borrow someones fob then reset the system to remove that fob ???
  6. As reuben said wasted spark is not a modification on STi's WRXes etc... Had to do the wasted spark setup on the single conversion. When looking at the ECU wiring diagrams you can see that 1 pin is ignition #1 & #2 and another pin is ignition #3 and #4
  7. Dont question his wisdom just know that he is a genieus!!! Thanks to those little drawings and his wisdom my car is now a single turbo BH5 Legacy!!! ;D Just proves that the diagrams work. When we re-do the thread we will show you the weird as place the fuel controller is!
  8. Hi guys, I am re-assembling my engine now after getting the new block and have put one of the heads on so far following the service manual torques and procedures RELIGIOUSLY... What the manual doesnt cover is the valve lifter clearance.. What happened when I took the engine apart was all the lifters fell out and then I was told they had to go back in specific holes. At least I have the two sides sorted. Anywho, what is the clearance supposed to be if anyone knows??? Thanks heaps for the help! (Ryan especially you have been awesome so far thanks mate!)
  9. Remember this manual is USDM not JDM so slightly different. Dont rely on wiring diagrams etc (at least I think its USDM ;D)
  10. i'm fairly sure thats what my packaging says. Will check later on today
  11. I have measured the old HG's and they are 0.5mm thick. So my new 1.2mm HG's are a 0.7mm increase. This should be OK i'm presuming... thats a 4.66cc increase. It wont be perfect but I'm not going to be rap*ng it or anything so if its not quite right it should be sweet? I know I'm being a royal pain in the arse but I'm trying to save as much money as possible without the danger of blowing the thing up again :-\
  12. So I get the difference in cubic centermeters? I'm getting confused. Does CC mean compression check? or Cubic centermeters haha
  13. Sweet and thats easy enough to calculate I suppose
  14. Shyte nice site! Will definately be using it, might save me some money! How do I find out about the depth of the piston etc?
  15. Hi all, After talking to boostin today before he came to help re-build my shortblock, He asked what head gaskets I have. Genuine Subaru are too thin apparently.. and this is a very valid point. I am going to go and get someone to work out my compression whatnots so that I know what thickness of gasket I need. It is EJ208 heads going on a ver7 STi shortblock. Has anyone done this before and what thickness head gaskets did you use? Thanks to boostin for his help so far.. had it not been for this piece of advice my engine might have been on track to blow up in the next few months! 8)
  16. Can you put pictures or explain how to do this please?!? ;D I have seen this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Subaru/Engines/auction-236666695.htm but where do the fuel regs go/what do I need?
  17. yeah i talked to matt on the phone he said he would ring strong and find out if they have a v5 or 6 sti engine. Not sure if it will work but apparently all i need is a new ecu. Where are you guys working on sunday? I'd love to come along and have a look
  18. So I have had a quote for getting the engine rebuilt as I have been told that a shortblock will cost more. I have three options: 1) Get the engine rebuilt (with risking the turbos - do they blow before 200,000kms??? I have heard they do) 2) Get a second hand engine with the hope it hasn't been raped 3) Get the engine rebuilt and buy a second hand engine to keep as a backup etc. What do you awesome clubsubbers think I should do? I have decided if I try to sell it I will loose either way so best just to keep it. Cheers Chris
  19. Yeah secure carpark is good as well obviously but sometimes this cannot be avoided. PLUS I couldn't get theft insurance without a 5 star NZSA alarm. So had to get it ;D
  20. ok good idea will do and will keep you all updated
  21. So do you think it is possible for me to do myself? Heaps of mechanic mates are more than happy to help but subaru have told me it is too hard?!?!?! I don't think they know about the 5 people and clubsub behind me haha. What I find weird is how the knocking sound only comes in at about 2krmp as shouldn't it be going all the time if the bearing is blown? Still trying to decide - shortblock or just fix crank and bearings?
  22. Hey man, i live in kohimarama and do you think i will be able to get away with just doing the crankshaft and bearings? I want to try and avoid the shortblock as i dont really have the money at the moment. I do want to do the shortblock as a full rebuild but its just not that affordable
  23. Yeah i'm so upset about it. I cant really afford to fix it but it is not worth selling. Never mind will see what happens
  24. So would I haha but to be honest - such a nice person to deal with. Really car competent and such friendly service. Don't get that all that often
  25. hmmm horrible isn't it! havn't even done 1,000kms since i bought it! - already had cambelt and knock sensor done. Is the brand new short block option worth it?
