1. Cool - very interested to find out what it may be :'(
2. http://www.caralarm.co.nz/go2/monthy_specials/ Its part of their july sale. Dont have much longer to go!
3. Ok so attached are two videos. In the first just before the oh sh*t it makes the noise and then as the engine is revved and it can be heard again from about 0:16 onwards In the second video it is doing it constantly again but just took two to try and get the best sound. This rattle happens from about 0:07 onwards. Hope this helps you diagnose my very upsetting problem! Trying to upload to youtube at the moment but it is taking ages. Just right click and save as. http://chriswiggins.co.nz/subypics/vid1.mp4 http://chriswiggins.co.nz/subypics/vid2.mp4
4. Hi Guys, So was driving my car home last night and as I pulled away from the lights I heard a sound that made my heart drop. Confirming with Dad and his mechanic mates they reckon it is definitely a BEB failure (or is it?) At about 2100rpm the engine makes a horrible noise but if I am ultra careful driving it doesn't make any noise. What we can't figure out is why it is so intermittent. It sorta goes away at about 3,000 but comes back again at random rpm etc. I am able to get a shortblock for 2k or around that so that is good. Is it hard to do and is it worth it? Definitely want to keep the car but what are my other options? I am quite keen to do it myself as not only is it good experience it can save me a shyte load. Ideas?
5. Yeah thank goodness for that I thought I was going to have to go out and buy another 4 litres at $50 haha Thanks for the clear up
6. Hi guys, Just went down to good ol' Repco and got 4L of Valvoline 75w-90 for my MT. What I want to know is what the heck the capacity is! I have found info about the dipstick being the fill hole and obviously the big bolt at the bottom is the drain, but what is the approx capacity? 98 (BH5) Legacy GTB I can obviously fill, check dipstick, fill but would be just quicker if I could get an approximate capacity ;D Cheers Chris
7. Oh ok thank goodness for that!!! It did still feel a bit sluggish lol but as long as it gets better I am happy. Such a nice car to drive and is actually quite economical if I dont want to boost all the time. ;D ;D ;D ;D
8. Yeah and if anything goes wrong I can go to them and ask questions. Two hours labour and the sensor at $160. It's done now so never mind
9. yeah thats installed!!! I was going to get other quotes but never mind they did the diagnostic so might as well have it done there
10. Took it in again and they have identified it as the knock sensor... $400 to replace :-[ had to be done i suppose
11. caralarm.co.nz (Automotive Security Systems)- $520 installed but paid $580 to get central locking as well. No point getting an alarm without it. Free mobile call out and the guy did it very professionally and even jump started my car after it went flat from the inside light being on for too long! In fact the alarm was actually installed in a pay and display carpark. He was more than willing to do it there and then. HIGHLY RECOMMEND AUTOMOTIVE SECURITY SYSTEMS!!!! Cheers Chris
12. I dont have a boost gauge but it just feels less responsive - doesn't put you "in your seat" the same as it used to.
13. I already got the AVS S5. Bloody good alarm I am so happy with it ;D Turbo timer on 1 min
14. Hi all, After having my cambelt done at Winger Subaru Greenlane last Wednesday, the car seems to not boost as much and is a little laggy? They did an engine diagnostic to try and get rid of the stupid engine check light because of my knock sensor. It is since then that the car just doesn't seem to play as nice :-[ What do you recommend I do? I will definitely be ringing Winger tomorrow but are there any ideas to what it may be?
15. So I did end up getting the cambelt done and it was only $1000. Everything replaced too. They even did the coolant. I also got the engine diagnostic done for $60 and nothing wrong so thats cool BTW, 10w40 oil for car? what oil to avoid? Fully synthetic?
16. Well I will make sure everything is listed that will be replaced tomorrow. I DO NOT want to be paying any more than I need to as even just buying the car has run my funds out lol ;D Still so happy with the car though!
17. Yeah man. Lady said she will write on the request for work or something that it will cost $1000. She told me that people thought that was outrageous haha. To me it seems like a bloody good deal. BTW, my idle is quite rough when either lights or aircon are on e.g. motor is under stress. I asked what a service included and it was just filters and oil change which I can do myself for much less than $300! I am getting a diagnostic done for $60 but I will ask what it costs to get the plugs done as this may help? I found another dipstick with I-have-no-idea-what by the turbo and it was just above the low mark. What is it and how can I change / replace? Any other engine-related things I should do / check? Cheers Chris
18. Cool well how do I get from the head unit to the plug under the seat? I know I can use RCA cables (obviously) but is there an OEM way to do it or was it always that the rear speakers were powered off head unit and front and sub were powered off amp?
19. Hi All, So after getting my new awesome 98 BH5 Legacy (without a headunit) I decided that music is quite nice once the sound of the engine gets a bit boring HAHA Anyway, I wired everything up properly (have done it many times before on other cars) and found that sound was only coming out of the rear speakers. After giving the car a damn good clean I found a similar connector as the headunit loom connector under the drivers seat. I then found wiring to the front speakers and wiring from the headunit (rear wires) Sounds complicated but now my car's speakers are all running off the rear headunit outputs meaning I cannot fade to the front or rear. Where have the front cables disappeared to? I really want to find out as I want to run the speakers off an amp instead of the headunit as it is not really powerful enough. Also, How can I get the factory sub working? Is it on this same connector? Here are the two connectors under drivers seat (and my jumper wiring to get the front speakers to work):

20. I would have thought so but the car has done 168,000kms and cant see a sticker! :-\
21. Yeah I just checked and there is another sticker!!! WOW what a saving! Doesn't have to be done for another 61thousand k's! ;D Getting a real good service done on it at winger subaru
22. Ok so I have found a sticker that may relate to my CAMBELT!!!! ;D Can anyone here read Japanese? 129,000kms definitely suggests engine but what in the engine I do not know! Here is the image: Thanks in advance for the help
23. I have done all that but no sound through the front speakers? Found the same type of adapter as at the headunit end under the drivers seat and did some testing with a multimeter and got the front speakers going. Problem is, they run off the rear speakers as well so can't fade forward and back. What do you think my problem is? I have only just got the car and it did not have a head unit at all so did all the figuring out myself. I have done many car stereos but none have been as difficult as this! Am I missing something?
24. What does paying enable me to do as well as get an awesome sticker?
